Actually, I cant really think of a remake that was as good as the original. Does anyone one have an example of a remake that doesnt suck?

Land of Confusion by Disturbed is as great as when it was originally done by Genesis.

I'll agree with you all the way on that one, ClaraSue. It's one of very few and right now I'm too 'brain-dead' to think of any others.

A remake that's better than the original? For my money "With A Little Help From My Friends" by Joe Cocker is much better than the Beatles's version, though I like both.

I also prefer the Willy Nelson version of "Always on My Mind" to any other.

I also love the Gary Jules version of "Mad World".

Cringemaking songs?

"Dance With My Father" - Luther Vandross. 'Orrible, and that comes from someone who's usually a sucker for a weepy.

"Home" by Michael Buble - excrutiating lyrics, as if written by a 10 year old who is being forced to write poetry but would rather be playing football.

One of the worst songs out there in MercMe's "I Can Only Imagine".

That song makes me cringe because there are so many things wrong with it, from the treacly lyrics to the nasal singing. It makes me change the station!

A lot of the pop songs of the 70's are disgustingly saccharine; it seems a lot of pop groups were trying to emulate ABBA and the Carpenters. "Torn Between Two Lovers", "The Morning After" (from "Poseidon Adventure"), "Feelings", "Alone Again Naturally", "Seasons in the Sun"...one word: YUCH!

"I've Never Been To Me" by Charlene is up there with "The Morning After" (as listed by tjoebigham above) for my money!

I'm not a fan of what is referred to in my house as "Wanksta" - short for Wannabe Gansta. Seriously - how many of these guys are really 'gansta' and not simply jumping on the bandwagon?

This from someone who admits to liking Tupac!

A candidate for a cover version which is better than the original is Hurt by Johhny Cash. The heartfelt emotion he put into the song always brings a lump to my throat. I think even Trent Reznor has acknowledged that Johnny made the definitive recording of it. Not to everyone's tastes I know, but it does it for me. (I love his version of the Beatles song 'In My Life' too. As that's my favoUrite song of all time - probably - it would have to be good to stop me hating him for trying!)

I'd say every song by Michael Bolton or Richard Marx is the worst song I've ever heard. (Sorry if I've offended any Bolton or Marx fans). :-)

anything from the disco era would probably qualify. I can't give a specific title because they all sounded the same.

Let me entertain you by Robbie Williams gets on my nerves as with most of his songs.Have to say that Hallelujah by the girl that won the x factor is the worst cover version ever, she has no soul while singing it.

'Been around the world and I I I, I can't find my baby' Lisa Stansfield.

That song makes me lose the will to live, oh, and 'Take my breath away' (I wish) by Berlin.

Does anyone remember a song called "Timothy"? It was a song about a mining acident and cannabalism from the 1970's, by The Bouys. Truely Hideous.

In my Encyclopaedia of Rock Music the band Grand Funk Railroad is described as "Right place, right time explains success of this mediocre, head-banging outfit".

So I found their music on U tUBE. Even "We are an American Band" [according to the encyclopaedia their only "half-decent" song is lousy.

So I vote for Grand Funk Railroad songs [any] as being the worst.

Definitely any of those ridiculous Crazy Frog songs. What a joke! Also REM's "Shiny Happy People"... mainly because I hate that woman's voice (guest singer, I think from the Cranberries)!
Also most boy band songs; you hear one and you hear them all.

Ren, I know your post was 8 months ago...Just read it and had to laugh! I completely agree about the 'cake' song. It was "McArthur Park." Now it won't go away!

Anything by La Roux. I really can't stand her voice! But the songs really stick in your head like glue!
