The Weakerthans are John Sampson's band who used to be the bassist for Propagandhi...they sound a good deal different but they're still amazing in my book.

I really like them alot. Not as much as Propagandhi, though. Another band I really like is Smoke or Fire.

I've heard of Flyleaf but never really listened to them before. I know the lead singer is a tiny little girl but that's about all I know.

At the moment, I quite enjoy Protocol. Yet another good band to come out of Yorkshire. And really - where is the pleasure with you?

There are so many great bands out there, that never make it "big"...I get very worked up about music, it really tweaks me off when people don't expand what they know, and are afraid to venture outside the Genesis' and Michael Bolton's and Metallica's. Nothing against those guys...I like something from all of their music. There is something for everybody, I like something from pretty much every type of music, and finding new artists from every genre is fun to me. I just wish more people felt that way...the world might be a bit more colorful. Ok, off my soapbox.

Some of my faves that nobody knows:

Mudhoney
Frightwig
L7
The Blow Monkeys (these guys were a little more well known, but usually people look at me like I have three heads when I talk about them)
Echo & The Bunnymen (Maybe well known, but DEFINITELY under-appreciated!)

To dig up an old thread, I have a new favourite *obscure* band.
They are an Adelaide band called Akoustic Odyssey, and I just saw them for the second time at the Fringe.
They are amazing. 2 guitars, a cello, a violin, an oboe, and 2 percussionists. Their music is impossible to give credit to by describing it, but it is just so amazing.

Tokio Hotel are great! Far as I knew, they're pretty big, though. By and large, German rock music is really cool -Rammstein, Tokio Hotel, Element of Crime... I love the fact that it's in a langauge I don't understand. Makes it seem far more romantic!

Really interesting, I like them!

These unruly guys are still my favorite obscure band :

Wicked Tinkers

Taesma, Yeah, that's them.
Their homepage is www.akousticodyssey.com.

They have a great sound, and they're even better live!

They Might Be Giants. They're my favorite band and it just doesn't get any weirder.

Agreed. Some people I know went through a TMBG craze about a year ago...it was crazy.

House of Freaks, particularly their debut album, "Monkey On A Chain Gang". Great guitar and drums duo. Sad ending for one of the members, though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Freaks

The Rasmus
Innerpartysystem (they’re new, but not that well known yet)
Imogen Heap
Muse
Franz Ferdinand

Most of these bands aren’t very obscure in their own countries, but in the US they’re mostly unheard of.

My boyfriend and I were at the Voltaire concert in Salt Lake City Sunday night. Absolutly spectacular. That's the only reason we went to SLC.

The first band that comes to mind for me is The Icarus Account, two brothers who play mostly acoustic music but can play the piano and the mandolin as well. I don't know very many people who have heard of them but they are well worth the listen.
