I've seen this before - it's actually not just The Godfather, it's taken from a collage of Hollywood gangsters. You can see that Al Pacino is his Scarface character on the right side. You can see the entire
picture here, but you can't make out what is written on the "descriptive plates" at the bottom, which I assume name the characters.

A sure sign of spring around here--a couple takes up temporary residence in our pool for a week or so before they move down the block to the lake.
Not sure if they're the same couple; do mallards mate for life? But there's always a pair around this time, anyway.

Thanks, Cinnam0n. I wouldn't have thought to look it up as a different painting, but it does make sense. I thought that Al Pacino's likeness was as Michael Corleone from the Godfather, too, but looking more closely, I can see that it's not. I didn't recognize all the men in the painting, so I just assumed that they were in The Godfather, Parts II or III, which I didn't see. The painting on the trunk is titled "Orginal Gangsters".

I spotted this fellow whilst walking by the river this afternoon. Believe he's a red-winged blackbird.

One more of the lillies in my garden. Don't know what these ones are called.

Weird, after the taxi and Toyota (and Ford Thunderbird but haven't shown that yet) I found one of the rarest cars in Britain (possibly the only one), a Japanese Subaru Sambar classic, the first I've seen. What are the chances of that happening?

I mentioned the Dawt Mill above. Here is what the mill looks like. This is the one that my great-great-grandfather's brother owned and operated. To get there from the Hodgson Mill, take MO 181 back to Cross Roads Store, then turn right onto Highway H (181 turns left here). Go about six miles to Highway PP, then turn right. You will go four miles down PP when you will see a sign to take a county road (I can't remember the road number) about one mile. If the river isn't too high, I will try to get a picture of the house that is behind the mill.

This is another shot from yesterday's walk by the river. It might seem a bit sinister, given the look of the water, but the opposite rail has "Hello" painted on it, so I think not.

Terrific shots, everybody . I'm always so jazzed when I look in here!
Here's my less-than-spectacular contribution for today . This nest was not tucked up there on my porch two days ago (I'dve easily noticed as I was out there for hours). I reckon this means that I'll be an egg-guarding "uncle" soon. It's been several years since anybody nested out there, and I'm looking forward to it indeed. Even though it'll mean chasing away the [unusually acrobatic gymnast-like cats who will surely lurk, once again], listening to the constant yattering of the babies once they hatch, the *mama* who will look ready to peck your eyes out ASAP if you get within a mile of her new address, etc. The saddest part? As always, when they get big enough to fly away (by then, it'll be a daily event having a look at their progress). Of course, this year it might be a wee problem climbing up on that bannister (for me) to inspect and/or gawk every morning. But I'll risk it ...

I was fascinated by Romeomikegolf's son's wedding ceremony POTD picture on previous page and the similarity to this photo I took in Tokyo about 4 years ago.
In a Shinto wedding ceremony, the bride will always hope to return to the temple at which she was dedicated as a baby.

Here's what was my local park in Hampstead Garden Suburb, where I sometimes get lunch or tea from the bakery on the corner and eat it here as I did today.

Satguru, lovely shot - is the canal near you greening out yet?

The canal- I must go and have a look, now I know it's there- all the natural streams are on the map but that one is missing. Sometime next week, probably by bicycle.
They've done a lovely job of the park haven't they!

I snapped this naughty squirrel atop my neighbour's bird feeder through my office window. The fuzziness is caused by zooming through the window screen

Lady, your lillies look like orchids. Beautiful flowers.

This is the view coming out of the Bankhead Tunnel on Interstate 10 in Mobile, Alabama heading east. The tunnel goes under the Mobile River and has emergency "flood doors" that close to keep the tunnel from being flooded during hurricane storm surges. Oh, and I wasn't driving when I took the picture, .

I've driven through that tunnel a couple of times, ClaraSue! We lived for 4 years at Eglin AFB, just south of I-10 in the Florida Panhandle, so I-10 was our route both east and west.

I visited a local desert nature center today - still cool enough to enjoy it. This is a huge creosote bush there, estimated to be almost 800 years old.

piglet triplets, well not really, there were others running around - much to the consternation of their parents. They are only 12 days old

The jet skis are out in force again this evening. Some people complain about the noise, but I quite like to watch them.

Here's another of my favourite modern houses, this is in Hampstead and surrounded by huge Victorian mansions worth millions which do not appeal to me in any way.
