Yes, this was a shocker. He was one of few journalists I admired immensely. The only 'upside', if there is one, he was doing what he loved most when he died. My heart goes out to his wife and son. RIP Mr. Russert, you will be missed.

Here is more on the story if anyone is interested.

What a tragic loss . Russert was [in my opinion] one of the very few TV journalists who I watched without being ready to cringe as he did his job. He was choice - he made his mark by opening his forums to a place of 'informing' his audience. Not just hoping to yank ratings out of them. I tip my hat to him (and the hopeful influence he leaves behind). RIP.

Very sad news indeed. He will be missed. There should be more like him, he was a terrific role model for young journalists.

Tim Russert was one of the few remaining real journalists. The very fact that people often argued -confused about his true political convictions means there ought to be a shining star next to his name someplace. He always tried to be fair, regardless of how he might feel on a personal level. After all, true journalism is meant to report fact, not be a showcase for one's own political views.
God rest you, Tim.

A very, very sad and shocking loss.

He was the best political interviewer on TV. I watched "Meet the Press" faithfully. If you really wanted to see someone confronted with the hard questions, you wanted them interviewed by Russert. He was absolutely committed to getting the truth, which is journalism at it's finest.

Having listened to all of his colleagues speaking about him for the best few hours, it is clear that he was genuinely liked and very highly respected by just about everyone who knew him. He seems to have been a very nice and caring person.

He was much too young to have left us. He will certainly be missed. I don't think he can really be replaced.

I was also quite shocked to hear about Tim's passing. He always did his newscasts with the utmost respect for whomever he was either interviewing or talking with. He will definitely be missed. RIP.

I can only agree with all that has already been said. The Russert family needs our prayers.
