Where better than the Ironbridge valley to find some historic metalwork.

The Coalport bridge built in 1818 is the lesser known of the bridges built in the late 18th and early 19th century at the home of cast iron. This bridge is a little down river from its more famous first iron bridge at Ironbridge, Shropshire.

Some time ago the statue that sits atop our Legislative Building required repairs. They did the repairs at a machine shop, then moved it to a public market area called The Forks where they applied the gold leaf.

He is aptly named the Golden Boy.

This is his before repairs look.

Part of the Eiffel Tower. I took this while waiting in the line to get a ticket.

Metal Mickie is fantastic - made me smile too.

Here is the steel truck. It's an old chevrolet that was originally in the army in WWII then sort of became surplus afterwards and were sold as lendlease. We call it the steel truck as we throw any old bits of pipe, sheet metal, any lengths on the back of it to keep it all together and up off the ground.

Seen at Elsecar Heritage Centre, Yorkshire. Work is in progress on a few steam engines there. I think the Mardy Monster must be pretty much all metal:

My grandparents do something like that with wood - they have stacks of it on top of some old railway lines.

Oh Sherry I walked over that bridge and passed the little house on the other side a few years ago. I love that area and enjoy seeing your photos.
Zorba I hope to take a similar picture of the Eiffel Tower later this year.

This railway bridge, that I pass quite often, is looking a bit rusty.

This is the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, MO. According to the stats I've read, there are over 880 tons of stainless steel in the exterior skin of the Arch.

And the little surprise I found in the grass while waiting for hubby to take a pic of Kit with the Arch in the background: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3208/2669023120_b36e76f5a2_b.jpg

Ah, I recall your story a few years back that you were lucky at finding four leaf clovers. Good to see you back, Loth.

Not pure metal but pretty close ...

Every year the Variety Club releases a "Gold Heart badge" and I have collected them for many years now
