Here is our patio after yesterday's snow. The thing with the wheels is my golf pull cart. I probably should have brought that in.

I just caught up the first days of April and just gorgeous and very neat subjects all! I'm still loving all the Chiluly, PDAZ. Gary, we have snow coming here tomorrow and of course, I have to drive out of town in it. This is April, yes?

Liz, I am so sorry to hear that about dear Katt. Along with everyone else, I have enjoyed your collage of her photos here. That cat had more personality than most people.

Some rotting boats... and in the background some not yet rotting.

From Felixstowe, dippitydoodah, about a mile north of the UK's largest container port. So you might call this the last port before the sturmundrang of mainland Europe... but I wouldn't.

The home of the Bowes Lyon family St. Paul's Walden Bury was open to the public today, under the National Gardens charity scheme. The Bowes Lyons are the family of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and the house is still occupied by her family. Queen Elizabeth spent her childhood there, and it's about 10 miles north of here.

Last Sunday I saw this magnificent oak tree in the gardens of St. Paul's Walden Bury. It's approx 700 years old, and at some time of its long life has been severely pollarded, but is a magnificent specimen nonetheless

More oak trees (I think) but with extra inhabitants...

Copago, what a neat grouping of clouds!

picqero, I just love the buildings you have been showing, so much history, and that oak is truly magnificent.

lily, I like your 'spookier' tree shot too.

Here's my dog in the middle of shaking snow off his face. In reality he's more cute and less scary.

This probably won't be very interesting for anyone without a connection with Stamford Hill but just a typical snapshot of my travels

This is what greeted me when I woke up this morning. Needless to say, I was not amused. I'm even less pleased to report that the white stuff is still on the ground and more is falling! Arrgh!

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed and gazed but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth (1770-1850)

Picqero, what a lovely pic. Daffodils grow wild there? Wow, we have to plant them here in our gardens and I have not had much luck with them, giving the growing environment. You attached an awesome poem. Thanks

The daffodils are great! There is a place near here where a woman planted thousands of bulbs years ago. When the flowers are blooming, the family lets you go pick them in exchange for a donation to charity.

Spotted this fire hydrant spewing water for the second time in as many weeks the other day. This time there was a city worker standing by, so I guess it might have been intentional.

Love the pics, everyone.

Daffodills and Wordsworth just go hand-in-hand, don't they, piq? I so love that poem you posted, and usually remember it in tandem with Robert Henrick's 'To Daffodills' at this time of the year.

To Daffodils

Fair Daffodils, we weep to see
You haste away so soon;
As yet the early-rising sun
Has not attain'd his noon.

Stay, stay,
Until the hasting day
Has run
But to the evensong;
And, having prayed together, we
Will go with you along.

We have short time to stay, as you,
We have as short a spring;
As quick a growth to meet decay,
As you, or anything,
We die,
As your hours do, and dry
Away,

Like to the summer's rain,
Or as the pearls of morning's dew,
Ne'er to be found again.

Robert Herrick (1591-1674)
