Here's another picture from the NYC Dance Parade last weekend. This bus was the 'float' for a Columbian dance group and they were really fantastic. They danced along behind the bus. Very coordinated and lively and the music was great. The bus is very lively as well .

Those buses are called Red Devils in Panama. They are used school buses shipped down from the US and taken over by private entrepreneurs -- not the safest mode of transportation! They aren't called "used" lightly. Usually, the owners have wonderful artwork painted on them. I was behind one several years ago that was on the highway out in the countryside of Panama. It was loaded with luggage on top AND a dog!! LOL Now I'll have to rumage through a ton of pictures (before the digital age) and find that particular one.

Thanks, bhs63, for the info!!! I only hope that this one is safer than the ones you describe! It did seem more for show than actual transportation, but maybe not.

I'm a sucker for shoe sales at my favorite shoe store. I was really bad today, but oh did it make me feel so good! LOL

A B-17, the "Liberty Belle," stopped off at my local aerodrome this week. The B-17 Flying Fortress was one of the main bombers used by US Army Air Corps in WWII. They are giving rides in this one for $430.

bhs63, that bag and the red shoes are fierce!!! I don't think I could have resisted the temptation to buy those either. I wouldn't wear them on that pretty little way path of satguru's, though. Need something sturdier, I think

I'm drooling over the thought of a flight in a B-17...

Got a new toy today - a dandelion puller upper (not its official name ) that really works. Filled the blue bowl that you see a couple of times, and got some really long roots out of the ground.

Thousands of supporters of Tamil separatists have been demonstrating in London, outside Parliament, for the past couple of weeks. Earlier this week I wandered through, and chatted with some of them - all very friendly and without incident.

This is "red bird of paradise" with some wild brittlebush behind it. We chop it to the ground in the fall and it grows back when the weather is warm and blooms throughout the summer -- a nice splash of color that is popular with the hummingbirds.

The is the golden frog of Panama. Its habitat is a small area known as El Valle de Anton. Like many other tropical frogs this one is in danger of extinction due to a fungus that is decimating rainforest frogs.

When I was out for a walk today I stumbled upon a yard sale, and couldn't resist buying this old metal flour sifter. It's almost exactly like the one I used when baking my first cake as a child many, many years ago. It was a real find for 50 cents!

Oooh!! I love yard sales!! It's one of the things I miss, living here in New York. You never know what you might find and it's nearly always cheap (which is rare here, except for books). Still, there's a lot of the unexpected here - you never know what you're going to see.

My hydrangeas have started blooming and they are beautiful!

Looks like an orchid to me, Ren! Really lovely.

And I love hydrangeas. I haven't been able to get them to grow here at any time of the year -- I don't think the soil is right for them. I should experiment a bit with that.

We've had some much needed rain the past few days, and I caught a portion of a rainbow yesterday.

Ren, your orchid is an epidendrum. The "lip" in the centre is cross-shaped, so it's known as the Crucifix Orchid. It also comes with red or mauve flowers, and is as tough as old boots.

Thanks Auntie! I am amazed at how resilient orchids are and how many different sorts there are. I literally forget about them in the garden until I suddenly realise they are flowering again.As you say, tough as old boots.

LOL, I remember the shock I got when I went to live in Singapore. To get to the bus stop I had to walk across various patches of rough grass and weeds by the side of the road... and then I realised that the weeds were orchids. The dandelions of Asia.
