This is the 1955 picture of a mural just off the Square in West Plains, MO. There are 12 pictures in all. The mural was drawn by a local resident of West Plains, and this picture is of Porter Wagoner (country singer from here) and Preacher Roe (Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher who lived here for many years). The building in the back is the Aid Hardware building, which still sits on the Square today, but is now a thrift store. The IOOF (International Organization of Odd Fellows) building is still in the same place it was then. Crozier's Drugs is now an IB Nuts and Fruit Company.

From the "wilds" of Australia to the canyons of Manhattan: here is the towering Rockefeller Centre central building (30 Rock? I think), built during the last great depression. It houses the NBC studios, an observation deck and the Rainbow Room (a famous restaurant with its heyday in the 50s). The decor inside is all art deco - it's a really beautiful building. Right below it is the Rockefeller Skating Rink - a subject for another day. Y

I think I may be up there in a couple of weeks, Ren, and I'll see if I can't take some indoor shots. There are some really nifty murals along with all the art deco details.

Silversword This plant is an endangered species. It is only found at Mount Haleakala on Maui. It is such a lovely shade of grayish green.

Although I peruse this thread almost daily, I rarely have the time to upload a photograph to share. Today I took lots of photos, and tried out the macro setting on my camera. I'm not thrilled with the outcome, though I do like the depth of colour I got in this particular picture. Most of my shots were over exposed, and none of them got as close and enlarged as I would have wished. I guess it's time to take out the manual and try again. Here are some buttercups, which bobbed cheerfully in the light breeze whilst I picniced with my youngsters nearby:

Santana, do your children hold the buttercups under each others chins to see if they like butter? Does that happen wherever there are children and buttercups, or did I just grow up in a neighborhood of strange children? Ysmay, I thought the bird in the marsh was an egret, and you said heron, so I looked it up and... it could be both. An egret is a heron, but a heron isn't necessarily an egret. But a great egret usually has a yellow bill, and this one looks dark, so that means it's probably a white morph of a great blue heron. My bird knowledge is r-egretfully quite limited, so perhaps someone more bird-brained could chirp up if this is wrong info. While that bird moved slowly and gracefully, methodically looking for frogs, fish and insects, this little sandpiper skittered all over the place, seeming to never stand still...
