Mags, if your spider had landed on my shoulder, I'd still be in the hospital. mc_shellsie, your fog photo is gorgeous! If I can ever get a shot like that, I'd be a happy camper for sure! And Copago, your seed pod is just cool!

I've been at 400 year old Aston Hall. in Birmingham this week-end, participating in a historical event. The building has undergone a major refurbishment, and the event was to mark its re-opening.
This is the front facade, taken before the public were allowed into the grounds.

This is the view of the ponds in Carshalton rather than the scene around them from yesterday. I was there as there's an old road sign on the corner of them I discovered.

Mags: your moth is a "Common Emerald" (which has several variants). My guess is Hemithea aestivaria as your insect looks rather like the middle one, second row from the bottom (photo credit David Painter).

Here's the link for you:
http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/Files/Live/Living34.7F.shtml

Common Emeralds are usually found in NW Europe, but we all know larvae can travel all over the world via cargo/imports (that's how the pine beetle that is destroying our forests in BC - and elsewhere in North America - got here)

Oh thanks, Jakeroo! I had googled images with no success at all. I'm more inclined to think it's the Angle-winged Emerald moth though, (last photo, 3rd row from bottom) as the bottom of the wings are pretty much straight across, rather than the more acute angle of the Common, plus it had that same shimmer to it... but who knows, I just know it was pretty on my wall.

Thanks again, I'm going to bookmark that site!

This welcoming sign was at the start of a hike to the top of the mountain, to Monte Sky. Once housing an orphanage, it is now a retreat for travellers.

It's not often you see something like this in Frisco, TX. I was out this morning and saw this "icon" that has been around for quite some time.

Yes, it has the California plates on it!

Love the ponies picqero.

Hello, photo friends! It's been many many weeks since I've last posted a photo. We recently moved across the country from California to Virginia and saw many sights along the way, including the Painted Desert at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.

All the photos are lovely~ I so look forward to seeing the photo threads each day. It gives me some insight into where everyone lives and the differences in all our countries.

Welcome back djsgal -- I've made that move before, too! From Long Beach to Virginia Beach....

Great photos everyone, I love coming to this thread.

Welcome back dgsgal, looking forward to seeing your photos of Virginia, a beautiful State, and one of my favourites.

I'm off at the crack of dawn tomorrow to do my visa run again. Back in a week or so with new photos!

Here's yet another new development of flats near me. There's no more room for the extra people they create, we just have to wait longer for everything. I doubt it's only happening in London as well.

These look a lot better than the usual brick prisons but still have to find room for all the extra cars and sewage pipes etc.

This grey squirrel was sitting on my deck this afternoon. Took photos through the window of my back door so as not to disturb him

There was a deer grazing in my late grandma's garden yesterday but by the time I got the camera it was in the trees. So here's a typical local shopping street, St Johns Wood High Street. Unlike most of the others it's not on a main road and unless you're local and use it no one else would know it's there.
