Interesting story. The hibiscus was originally to be called "biscus" because the guy who developed it thought it looked like a fresh biscuit all open and ready to be eaten. He was tending his flowers one morning when his neighbor, who edited a garden magazine, called over: "Hi. What kind of flower is that?"
The man replied: "Hi. Biscus."
The editor ran a story on it with the name he heard: "hibiscus."
I could be wrong.

I dragged a friend with me to visit one of the few local "landmarks" here in town last week (the other one is the Pro Football HOF ~ which I got a picture of, too, but will post sometime later). This is the monument to President William McKinley, who was born and raised in Canton, Ohio. I'm pretty sure that there are 4.7 billion steps leading up to it --- but I was (kinda stupidly) determined and climbed every darned one of those rascals on Thursday. Without question, my friend went back down on his own and drove my car to the rear of the top of the structure, so I did NO steps as we left the place, trust me. It's a pretty cool building, though, most think ...

I was pursuing my hobby of historical re-enactment last week-end, at a multi-period 'Festival of History'.
I don't think I'm breaking the 'no people' rule by this image of a medieval knight, after all, you can't see so much as a fingernail.
In fact there might not even be a person inside the armour



The armour, or rather the surcoat, is that of Sir Thomas Beaufort (1377-1426), 3rd son of John of Gaunt, and half brother to king Henry IV. His titles included Knight of the Garter, Lord High Admiral, Earl of Dorset, Captain of Calais, Captain of Honfleur, Lieutenant of Aquitane, Duke of Exeter, and Chancellor of England.

Another scenic cemetery, this is West Hampstead, where we used to hit our cricket balls over the wall to when we played cricket at school. Whoever hit it had to climb over the wall to get it back as I did many times myself.

We are having a new ground (sort of like a dam) tank dug at the moment. It's just one bloke doing it with a grader and a loader and it should take about two weeks. When finished it will be about 6 metres deep and 75 metres square.
Once it's finished all we have to do it wait for it to rain and fill up with water!
