This could be a disturbing sight, if you came across it unexpectedly while out for a quiet walk

Today I went to a free all-day crop, and spent my time making cards from kits...when I wasn't chatting, or enjoying the pot luck lunch

Beautiful sky lioness. Sliz, I'm not sure what a free all-day crop is, (other than it didn't cost you, lol) but those are beautiful cards!

It's a day for getting together to do scrapbooking and cardmaking, at a local scrapbook store that has a room especially for such get-togethers. It's handy to have the store right there whilst you work, in case you run out of something

Wolf Spider.

These spiders do not spin webs, but chase their prey, and jump on them. They have eight eyes. It scared the daylights out of me when it landed on my shoulder then hit the ground. Turned out it was a shedded skin, which is why I managed a closeup of it.

For a macro of its eyes, see here

Wow!! I wasn't ready for that picture, MadMags! It surely scared me a little bit, I can only imagine what it must be like to see one in the flesh. Great picture!

Thanks liz, that sounds like a fun day!

Thank you penny. Believe me, had it still been moving I would have been running, not shooting, lol, as they are known to inflict a nasty bite.

We are first time gardeners growing of all things watermelon!

My sister took this photo with her camera phone and used her hand as a back drop to show just how small the watermelon really is:

Four days ago, when the watermelon first appeared, it wasn't even that big! Amazing how big it got in just four days! Watermelons ripen in 80 to 90 days, so it has to grow fast to attain a decent size.

I think the reason why the watermelon is starting to grow, is because my sister takes great care of it, as well as my tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, cucumbers and my herbs.

The watermelon proves that for first time gardeners TLC does do wonders!

I've never seen such a small watermelon, JTJ.

Mount Mary Church, Bombay.

According to legend, Mother Mary appeared in a dream to a couple of fishermen and asked them to build a church at the place they would find her. The next day a statue of Mother Mary holding Baby Jesus washed up on the shore and the same idol is still found in the church.

Very nice architecture, zorba, and an interesting story too. What are the vendors selling outside the church?

This pretty moth was in my house a few days ago, perhaps someone can identify it?

Unfortunately, if I were to use it now it wouldn't even taste good. When it is ripe in 80 to 90 days, the watermelon will weigh approximately 20 lbs.

It will also be very sweet!

In the words of Rachel Ray "Yummo"!

Beautiful photo, Copago.

MadMags, the vendors sell candles outside the church. Some of the candles are shaped like different body parts which people offer for specific ailments.

Love the seed pod and the moth (which I can't identify). The church is lovely, and the stories about its beginnings, and the candles are both fascinating.

These boathouses in Deseronto always look like they are about to fall into the water, at least to my eye!

Interesting, zorba, thank you

liz, they do look like they're about to slide into the water, don't they?

JTJ, can't wait till we see your melon full grown!

I go to a restaurant in Charleston, Charleston Grill, that cuts those baby watermelons into wedges, skin and all. They are crunchy and have a watermelon taste. After having them in a salad there, I plant a watermelon plant every year just to pick the babies and put them in salads.

Granted -- big, red, sweet watermelons are good too.
