You'd need good boots to go off the beaten track on this hillside.

A nice quiet bench that is completely tiled and hand painted.

I've posted this picture before, about five years ago, but it was so perfect for the chain I had to do it again.

This park bench is located in Queens Gardens in the city of Perth, Western Australia. It is the original park bench from the movie "Nottinghill" starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. It is inscribed "For June who loved this garden, from Joseph who always sat beside her" and "June Wetherby 1917-1992."

It now bears an additional plate which indicates that the bench was purchased by a local resident who anonymously donated the bench to the city of Perth. The IMDb website includes this piece of trivia in their summary of the movie "Nottinghill" and states "it now *really does* live in a beautiful garden that is locked at night".

On the back of the bench is the inscription "Rodd and Nicole 2002". I have been unable to discover the signifiance of this and I assume they have some connection with the anonymous donor.

Queens Gardens is one of my favourite places and it is where Maynooth and I got married in 1980.

"You can marry at five years old in Australia?"

How did you deduce that?

Your wedding was in 1980 and you can't be more than thirty-five by your avatar. Did I miss a decade?

"Did I miss a decade?"

Aren't you sweet?! My avatar photo was taken at a FunTrivia "meet-up" in Sydney in May 2008 and at the time I was 50 years old!

Swallow Pond in the Countryside Park I live beside

The buildings in the background are the Countryside Centre and were originally a hospital. The pond was formed by water pumped from a local coal mine which closed in the 1960s

Photo taken in San Diego... a boat of a different sort:

Direct quote from Wikipedia:

"Star of India was built in 1863 as Euterpe, a full-rigged iron windjammer ship in Ramsey, Isle of Man. After a full career sailing from Great Britain to India then to New Zealand, she became a salmon hauler on the Alaska then to California route. After retirement in 1926, she was restored between 1962 and 1963 and is now a seaworthy museum ship ported at the San Diego Maritime Museum in San Diego, United States. She is the 2nd oldest ship that still sails regularly and the oldest iron hulled merchant ship still floating. The ship is both a California and United States National Historic Landmark."

It is also quite handy to have one of these bollards on land to moor your boat.

Don't forget to take some gear so you can catch lunch but you may need to untangle it first!
