I'm not sure. They were on one of those trees that has lots of dark green leaves and lots of patches of white flowers everywhere. I'll take a picture of the tree next time I go past it.

Fantastic caterpillar, Copagao! At the Indianapolis Children's Museum - blown glass diplayed in a glass ceiling.

I've seen the Chihuly glass at Kew Gardens as well. And who else recognises the galah from Karl Kennedy's house? Here's the pond at Waterlow Park in Highgate, right next to the hospital where I was born

We literally have mobs of hundreds of galahs around the house at certain times of year. At the moment they must be ready to lay eggs for spring. They are around allllll the time that I think they just don't worry too much about us which is how I got so close ... oh and camera zoom. I've seen them drinking out of water bowls with my dog not too far away. Here is the mooon from during the day.

I would love to join that fellow for a chat! Love the galahs, Copago, and the moon is fantastic. As a child, I believed that if the cows were lying down in the field, it was sure to rain. Well, this little lot, snapped in passing from my sister's car, got it wrong today. Though there were threatening black clouds all around not long after, the rain never came.

There has been a run of very colorful photos! From glass to galahs. Those are gorgeous birds. Copago after studying my field guide determined the bird of prey I posted is a Swainson's Hawk in Intermediate Morph. Whatever that means.. (-8 Here's a critter I didn't know we had in Colorado. Actually from a Sanctuary where wildlife humans tried to keep as pets are homed. They have everything from lions, camels, ostriches, black bear, grizzly bears to wolves. What are some people thinking?? I don't know why they don't get the concept if you have a lion in your garage, it isn't a lion anymore. (Yes, this place rescued a starving lion from someone's garage who was being fed Whiskas cat food.) Good grief.

Copago, there's nothing like a handmade gift, especially from a child, is there? Lovely! Tredici, your shot of the tiger is fabulous! djsgal, I camped at that same park and had deer come really really close. We had only the picnic table between the kids and me and four of them. It was then I started wondering exactly how benign wild deer were... (maternal instinct kicking in I guess...)

Thanks Liz. It's funny how photos get posted in little bunches, it's already tomorrow evening compared to the last entry but only one picture in between. Rather than add anything scenic this is a typical view of my life, a bus passing under the bridge in Cricklewood, my mother and her brother were born just off the road on the right just behind me as well. Sometimes the fruit never strays far from the tree.

Cute flowers, djsal... Great golf course, copago! and that frog is very cute! Here's my offering for today: I really like this selection of roofs, particularly the slightly sagging roof of the crêperie in Quimper from which delicious smells were wafting!

Quimper is a beautiful town - we visited on market day and there were so many lace goods being sold, with many of the stall holders wearing traditional costume. Here is a very large sunflower in an allotment. There were runner beans, raspberry shrubs and wild flowers too.

He looks nice and friendly ... not that I'd be keen on getting up close and personal with him! Here's a pic of a ceramics shop in Quimper - a selection the plates they produce have been fixed in place permanently on the outisde walls of the building.

They put the mural there in 1997 as a temporary thing to hide the derelict building until it was knocked down... now it looks as though they like the mural, and have kept the building, lol. I've always liked Swanage, I spent many happy hours there as a child - it's a town with a great sense of humour and has several murals by the same artists.

Sherry, your photo stirred up some forgotten memories for me. Many years ago I lived near Altrincham, not far from Chester, and we must have visited it, as I remember it from your photo. Thanks!

Szabs - must be time to dance Sevillana! I learned how, but never bought just the right dress. Still have the music, but couldn't remember if I tried. And PDAZ, I've eaten at the Tuck room a few years ago and it was delicious. Yum!

Thanks all for your warm welcome. Jar - After all these years here, I still haven't mastered the Sevillanas or bought a dress. Here is another typical mode of transportation during the days of the fair - when cars are replaced by horses.

Life's been getting in the way of my visits to this thread, time to catch up! A belated, but warm welcome szabs, love your photos of the fair, those dresses airing on the balcony are awesome! Love PDAZ's pics of the cottages, in fact all the photos are pleasurable to browse. Will start posting here again when I've finished painting.

Belated welcome to Szabs form me too! Love that dress photo!! Walking the plank made me smile too. Been busy here lately so haven't been able to post much but remember a little while ago we were starting to dig a tank well here it is finished (with a small boy on a motorbike in the middle to give a bit of an idea of size) It's fifteen foot deep.

no, it's just stays dirt, Sue. It depends on the ground as to how well they hold but that there will hold really well as there's clay in the ground. We just need it to rain now! There's hills behind where I took the photo and it should run down the hills and there's drains (ditches) that should take it all to that tank there and will run in on the corner on the right of the pic.

Carmel looks like a lovely place to be PDAZ, and shows how easy it is to plan and design any new town if the will is there. In contrast here's the sort of view few others would take or show but is an everyday view for many Londoners so part of our lives as well. It's a new block of offices (on the right) on the Park Royal industrial estate in the typical current Lego style.

I was only watching a documentary the other day about glass and how those circles, in the olden days, were just a happy accident when the flat panes of glass were made. The circle was from the stem that was holding the glass the flat pane was cut from. Who knew that infomation would come in handy so quick?

Thanks Copago & Mags for your welcome. Carmel really looks like a beautiful place, it reminds me of a Bavarian village. Copago I suppose you are expecting a very wet season, in order to fill that massive tank up. This litle guy must have been very hot and just wanted to cool down, the day I took the picture, it was 42º .

I like the art deco house, sat. Lily, like your cabbages or kale too. I used to always plant ornamental kale when I was in Canada. It looked just so cool peeking out above the snow, and would last until the start of the thaw. A lovely splash of colour!

Really charming, Satguru! These are sea nettles at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It's actually my favorite exhibit there -- I could sit for hours and just watch them float. It's not upside down -- that's the way they float.

PDAZ, love that foggy picture taken from the restaurant. Great colouring and composition. Just love it! Good to see the great Freddie Mercury, thanks Professer! Tredici, your shot of the majestic king of the jungle is priceless!

PDAZ, great picture of the sea nettles! I could sit there and watch them for hours as well. Beautiful. Tredici, that picture is amazing! That dear lion looks so peaceful and comfortable. And that trifle looks really good, Liz! I've never had trifle, but I'd love to try it some time.

That certainly is unusual!
Can anyone identify this plant please, situated in a wetland wood? I've looked in my wild flower book and can't find it. It was about five to six feet high. Thanks!

The gherkin's Swiss Reinsurance (or was when it was built), the Nat West tower is nearby and has been there a lot longer. Funnily enough here's one I took earlier in Hampstead

Yes, that's it! Thanks Verbonica. I see one of its names is 'Poor Man's Orchid' and I had actually said to someone it looked a bit like an orchid. On checking further it seems it is a nuisance and invasive , but it's not that common where I live.

As always, terrific snapshots, folks ! My contribution isn't terribly panoramic and/or original today, but it's kinda relevant . Without a bit o' warning (or good sense slash planning) I ended up with a *roommate* this week! He was a rescue that, after a stop or three, found his way to my door. He's so happy to have a place to 'take over', too - a very grateful lad, I'm thinking. He spent the morning selecting which bed he likes best [I think he found it, too] and rearranging the lounge chair to his liking. Typical cat. His name is Middlemarch (and, yes, I know that's a very odd name ... but there's a mostly sensible reason for it, I promise). It's no wonder the cats in my life have been so especially neurotic -- considering the monikers I saddle them with ...

He is great . Why do you need a sensible reason for naming him Middlemarch? That it's a great name is fine!

Lovely cat Gats, I must ask my neighbours if any of them are going away so I can have another visitor for a while. This is exactly why Hampstead Garden Suburb was given its name, this is just round the corner from where I lived there.

Congratulations on Middlemarch adopting you, Gats! He looks right at home. Szabs, that water looks so unbelievably green! Is there copper in the bed? Professer, I like the shot of the Houses of Parliament. Spanishliz, what can I say about the toilet? lol. Copago, the galahs are gorgeous, what a beautiful flash of colour. Satguru, always nice to see an English garden. All in all, another interesting round of photos, thanks everyone. I will get back to posting soon. I've been under the weather, and should be back on my feet soon, hopefully.

You'd never guess from that lovely picture of England's green and pleasant land which lilyalli posted, that Ironbridge is where the Industrial Revolution started, with smelting all along the river. The world's first steam locomotive was built there too ... a predecessor to satguru's train.

Hi, I've been lurking for a while, catching up and thoroughly enjoying seeing everyone's pictures, but now it's time to start contributing again. So, here are some peppers at a Bucks County, Pennsylvania farm stand last weekend:
