Martin: well thanks for the compliment, but I must confess I wasn't slogging through the African wilderness or anything when I took it lol. This hippo was housed at the San Diego Zoo. The accommodations for the larger animals are quite roomy (for a zoo anyway). In this case, there was even see-through glass on one side of the pool so that you could view them underwater. I'm not quite sure why they bothered with that, since, as hippos are voracious eaters, the water ends up MUCH too murky to see much LOL

A note of explanation on this one: this is my "for years" desk -- hauled around with me through thick and thin. Used to be there was a typewriter (which I still have, using it or not) in the middle of it, surrounded by reference books ... and pencils that had erasers on them ... and little bottles of Wite-Out instead of edit buttons. Spent a lot of time sitting there, even though now it's just a place to stick *stuff* with a faux tree looming (a memento from my ol' house and grounds ~ not just any tree, those branches were once a bit o' an ornamental bush). The stuff one needs to write things, now, won't fit over there [not enough nearby plugs, jacks or anything useful within the right amount of nearby footage]. But? It's still my corner of the world.
