Brilliant idea, Jill and Bonnie will love it! There is a shop in Flower Market Street that specialises in orchids and lots are purple. I liked this unusual one:

Copago: oh dear, hope she's going to be ok and that this thread will cheer her up! Ren: All orchids (my favourite houseplant - since we certainly can't overwinter them outdoors here except for "lady slipper" varieties) are beautiful, but those ones are definitely a "picture in purple". Lovely! Another flower here. Bougainvillea 'Purple Queen'. Interesting plants, the purple bits you see are NOT petals/flowers, they are bracts (modified leaves). The actual flowers are the yellow things in the middle that look like they could be stamens. There are many plants that exhibit this modification, including the poinsettia.

Bonnie: Whew! You can type again (a verrra good sign!) DotB: if that's one of the Datura varieties, then yes, a witch/warlock would definitely have it in her/his garden. Is it growing in yours? Another "witch" plant - the purple foxglove ( Digitalis). A biennial, so it doesn't always come up in my yard at the same place (which is why my garden looks like heck in the spring - can't pull anything until I'm sure what it is, even if it DOES look like a weed when it first sprouts lol) ...

What an interesting flower, Dotb! I haven't seen it before. Jakeroo, both your photos are beautiful. The purple really stands out. Get well soon, PurpleFan! Here's an amethyst geode for you from the Royal Ontario Museum.

Ren, that orchid is absolutely gorgeous! How did you resist buying it? In fact, all the flowers are pretty, what a lovely bouquet for Purple Fan! Get well soon, PF! Zorba, love your photo of the geode, wow, lovely piece of rock. Isn't the ROM a great place to wander round? Lily, I love your photo, great composition and lighting, very tranquil.

This is showing at my local theatre. There's a lot of purple in it! All together now 'Life is a cabaret, old chum. Come to the cabaret.' (Well the film cheers me up anyway.)

Zorba: gorgeous geode! DotB: I have some purple datura seeds in my collection. I'd happily send you some, but I'm not quite sure how to get them to you without being arrested lol (they have hallucinogenic properties apparently) Jane: love the clove-like scent of carnations. Hope PurpleFan can smell them from there! Lily: ah-hah! Another purple fantatic in hiding! Those shades go wonderfully well with the dark wood. .. another flower, this time from my kitchen (northeast window). I think ren's is more interesting (do you know the variety by any chance, ren??) as this is kind of all-one-colour-sorta-boring ... p.s. just "jake" is fine by me (it's been my nickname by friends - you didn't really think I picked it by myself did you? lol - for 40 years). Please feel free to use it instead of jakeroo : )

How absolutely gorgeous. I see that both dot painting and the goanna are important elements of Aboriginal art. Is this piece acrylic on canvas?
