I'm thinking of removing level 10 entirely.

When you cross the line and get to 10, you simply "win" and that's that.

The way it is right now, there's never really a sense of completion for immortals. I sort of like the idea of there being a finish line that you can cross.

Terry - While for me, it was enough just to cross the finish line, the above from the first page of this thread shows that there are those that *do* care exactly how far they continue once they've crossed. smile

Right, but it sounds like the only reason they care is that they don't want to lose their rank.

It would seem to me that if you're running the race, when you cross the finish line, you're allowed to stop.

From the GC page:

"Good luck! The only change for this tournament is that we will be "pausing" the tournament from Nov 20 to Jan 2 for the holiday period when a lot of people are unable to play."

Shouldn't it be Dec 20 instead of Nov 20? smile

I think ending it after you reach level ten is a the best idea I have heard in ages. Genius! It definitely turned from fun to a chore after that line was crossed.

I agree with it too - it always feels odd to get to the point where everyone says "well done" only to have to go on and on and on...

Sounds good to me, too. As I'm playing hardcore this time around, this is unlikely to affect me directly, though.

Wow, hardcore is, for lack of a more appropriate word, hardcore. I didn't realize that Impossible had the same 10/130 rules. Wowza. How has anybody made it through?

LOL, you've got it easy now - you can choose ** categories and avoid categories you hate.

There's a reason it's called 'Hardcore' grin
And, as Flopsy says, SOME of us had to do it without the benefit of choosing our categories wink

Somehow I got it wrong. For some reason I thought there was an exemption for the Impossible category considering that it's well, Impossible.

No matter, I'll just approach it the same way I approached the Obscure 950 points in 120 seconds or less badge. I may not always gets 10 correct, but at least it will be a quick zero as opposed to this afternoon's round.

Hmmm, the Buzz says that the Global started less than an hour ago, and everyone has 24 hours to complete it. But some have done two sets. Am I missing something?

Just to put "losing" sets in Hardcore into perspective: The simple truth is you will have rounds where you don't make the 10 in 130. They will actually be quite frequent and if you play reasonably well in the sets you do score, you will achieve Hardcore Immortal with a hit rate of around 4.8 out of every set of 6 (mcdubb made it with 4.71 in the last GC). The Hardcore Badge is usually achieved with averages of 4.1 to 4.3 (the last badgewinner of GC13 netted 4.07) - meaning you can afford to drop 20% of your games and still make Immortal or 30% and still get the badge. So don't consider a missed Impossible as a lost game - treasure a scoring one as a free win!

Thank you for those (much needed) words of wisdom, Wesley. Having had a flying start with the first set (including Impossible), I've come down to earth with a bump on the second set.

Heck when I played Hardcore I very quickly gave up playing Impossible as I knew I didn't stand a snowball in hell's chance of gettiong 10 in 130 seconds. I finished thirteenth and won the badge.

Thanks, Wesley. That actually makes me feel a lot better.

On a related topic, on the http://www.funtrivia.com/minigame/tophc.cfm list of top HC players, the person at the top has one more game than anyone else. How is that possible?

For hardcore, only games you score at least 10 in 130 seconds are counted. Therefore, it appears that this top player probably got enough right in one of the two impossible rounds, whereas nobody else did either. :-)

DGDave, you said the Global challenge started yesterday at noon. Well, in 40 minutes, it will have been 24 hours, in that case. Since the buzz says everyone has 24 hours to complete their first set, I would have assumed that this would mean nobody could yet complete 2 sets! It does not make sense to me, if we have 24 hours for one set, why do people have two sets completed, when we're still in the first "24 hour set"? It's not like I'll get any badges anyway, but I am very curious.

It probably should have said 12 hours Salami. I've completed two sets and expect a third in just over half an hour.

I think that if you're doing Hardcore you might as well do Impossible - there are times when you get 10/130 or better and get advancement points that make up for missing out in an ordinary category. You may find that the advancement points you get for Impossible are enough to keep you ahead of someone else - and trust me, in Hardcore you need all the points you can get. Just because it's difficult shouldn't put you off... as has been said already, Hardcore is supposed to be difficult.

From the GC page:

"(*) Adventure Bonus: Categories marked with an asterisk award 100 FunTrivia Points and an advancement bonus if you score at least 500."

I am playing in hardcore mode this time. Does the rule above applies only to players playing in normal mode? If I am not mistaken, advancement bonus is awarded for hardcore players if they get more than 10/15 under 130 seconds?

When I played Hardcore last time, I didn't get anything for these categories unless I got 10/15 under 30 seconds. It applies to *, ** and Impossible. I might add that it is always worth playing Impossible - every once in a while you get a set which actually ISN'T Impossible. And it feels so nice to crack it and score when you didn't expect to.

Yeah, I figured it was supposed to be 12 hours, not 24. I'm just bummed I didn't play yesterday; I missed, not only a set, but a brain twist! Not a good start for me. Haha. I guess that's what happens when family visits. wink

Don't worry Salami I missed the first two sets and the brain twist last challenge and still ended up at level 10.

The GC is showing that I have already played the Brain Twist today. It appears that it did not reset from yesterday. All of the other games show that I haven't played them. I am going to go to bed and hope it is fixed when I get up, but I just want to say that I haven't played the Brain Twist for this round of the GC yet.

The Brain twist takes a little longer to reset. It's like that every day for me.
