Guruoftrivia's team description (Time Mag calls WMN team of the year) made me recall that a few months ago there was a listing of monthly success for teams. That is a complicated calculation to perform each month (Thank you Wesley Crusher for that highlight of the year!).
This being Countdown time in many venues of human effort and calibration of that effort by various industries, I think that calculation should at least be done once per year for trivia team performance and awards given in a countdown style to the top three teams of 2010. Then an appropriate tag could be added to the team description page. This probably would have the most chance of materializing if the team leaders took on the cause.

Making that calculation would of course require saved copies of all team result pages for 2010. Don't know if anyone has a full set of those. I definitely don't. Here's the results from November, however. As last time, only teams with a score in at least five of the ten games were counted (so if you are missing yours, play more games!). Happy number crunching!

I tried to post this list on my team's message board, and there must be some combination of characters or words that is not allowed, because I kept getting an error message. I ended up posting a link to this thread instead.

Reading half the list shows a Yo and an isolated R which I don't think pass muster in the other blog rules. You would know if the Yo was good or not. But the R in the NASCAR team name probably is the blocker. Try deleting that R and see if you can post. For my team I just posted the top forty and they copied fine. That would be another option: Just copy up to your team's rank.

Jennings, the scores use the teams' placings on the last month result page. For each game, I am taking the listed number of teams (separate for each league, if the game separates them) and then expressing the result as a percentile. So if I take the first two results from the Cat People: Heroes: 3rd out of 44 = 95.45% Team v team: 23rd out of 120 = 81.67% ...and so on. For small teams, this is slightly more complicated as the different games have different numbers of participants, but Terry uses a single number as the "out of", yielding some results such as 235th out of 160 (which would give a negative number). I am using the actual maximum number present in each column as the last place for them to ensure meaningful results. A team having no score in any column at all gets a 0 for that game. Once I have all these, it's only a matter of adding up the ten partial scores. Since they're all on a 0 to 100 scale, I don't need to do any more weighting or such, just add them up and presto. Final score on a scale of 0 to 1000. (The reason I omit teams with less than 5 games played is that such scores usually result from one member playing a just few games on one day and getting a top 200 score and I just don't want to embarrass anyone with a score of 0.74 out of 1000 )

Yes, I would know if the Yo works, because it is part of the name of my team! I will give it a try. It may also be that the whole post was too long, which some others have reported on another thread.
Thanks for looking into this!

Well, I tried divvying up the list into three parts, and I replaced Yo with Your and the R with ARE, but no dice. There must be some other illegal items that I am just not seeing. The link to the list will have to do.
Thanks, mehaul, for the suggestions.
Thanks, Wesley, for putting it together. I think that this type of stat will help my team stay more active.

I copied the list up to #73. Tried posting it on my team's threads. At first I got a 'could not do' Explorer message but when I hit refresh it loaded the list up to entry # 47. So for you to show the list up to # 80 (or beyond) it would seem best to do it in groups of 40. I went back and loaded, no problem Yo'-wize or limit-wise posting the #45-80. So you could post it in those smaller groups. Or use the PM system to spam a few of your teammates with the list if they aren't into the forums. In the PM system I was able to get up to your team transmitted.

I think it is hard to judge because there are some amazing players who primarily play quizzes, team games and other games that I never play. With Strnog1, I only see him in Knockout, that I have noticed, and he is pretty amazing there. On the other hand, I can be great at FMI yet I am an atrocious Piece of Cake player. Just horrible. I got that badge and stopped playing completely, phew. So, I don't know how you can compare players with the amount of variation in the skills needed for the different games.

Because I've already seen what strnog can do when he plays the other games. Take a look at his accomplishments. 243 Expert Titles (and he never googled), dominant in Global Challenge (I believe he was the first to have both the HC and Immortal badges) and Daily Game (back when he was able to commit more to FT), just awesome in the WTS/Mixed/etc...he's less active now and isn't able to play as much.

But based on that criteria, I would rate you higher in a shorter period of time. And, again, there are incredible players that may not be as speedy, so stick more to quizzes and less time concerned games. Then there are those that have created thousands of quizzes which takes a whole other level of talent. I am not saying that Strnog isn't fantastic, his stats show otherwise. However, it depends on what criteria you use for ranking. It is one of the great things about this site is that there are few players that seem to dominate every section, especially when you add in the quiz and authoring elements. The only thing I don't understand is how in a tie for the monthly ranking spot, number of games played outweighs scoring percentage. That just seems off to me.

I know that there are far more aspects of this site than just the competitive games but I was only considering those games as criteria (for this comparison anyway). He consistently outplayed me for a long time and he could probably still do so now. He could probably be 15-20 levels higher if he was more motivated to actually chase badges and write quizzes. I agree with you about # of games inexplicably beating scoring average. Anyone can play tons and tons of games, but it takes far more skill to do well in them. That's why I think the +100 bonus for finishing in the top 10 in the Easy Game should be reinstated. Last month, miffy42 somehow had a lower average than cubswin even though miffy had so many more top 10 finishes and was far faster on a more consistent basis. Adding the top 10 +100 bonus into the average would be more indicative of speed.

It got taken away? Well, that explains why I wasn't in the standings in December. I knew I had played about the same number of games I usually do, except for the month I got my monthly. All I do is finish top 10 in the easy game unless I screw up and go too fast. Oh well. I can live with me not being in standings. As far as the best free agent goes? Prison is right. Strnog1 is, by far, the best out there. That guy is amazing, and the best part about him? He doesn't need to Google to keep up with the other players in the timed games like some other players around here do.

I remember trying to get Strnog to join my team back when it was in it's infancy.

Whoa! May not be a change in the top 5, but we (The Chain Gang) skyrocketed from the 30s to 7th!
