I've got both a digital camera and a real one that uses 35mm film. Remember that stuff? If you're under 25 you probably don't. It's getting increasingly harder to find on the High Street. Yesterday I went in to a large outlet of a major UK supermarket chain and saw they had a photographic franchise. I went to buy a couple of rolls of film only to be told 'Sorry, we don't stock it. There's no call for it'.

I still remember 35mm film. They were still using it past 2000 here in the US.

I came across a roll of 35mm film when tidying a drawer. No idea what's on it but I think I might put it in for developing ..if anyone local still does it.

I also have a roll of 35 mm film that needs developing. It is at least five years old...

All digital stuff. Cameras, memory cards and frames. Plus processing to print digital photos.

TW, larger Boots still do proper processing and many, apparently, sell film.

I recently unboxed several sets of developed negatives which I took back in college in the '70s. I wanted to get them printed off, just to see what they were like. I ended up buying a scanner, because that was cheaper than getting the pictures printed would have been.

But I was pleasantly surprised by the results. A lot of the film was Kodak's Tri-X black and white film, which gave really nice detail and smoothness, especially to skin. (That sounds a bit contradictory, doesn't it?)

With so many photo labs closing or only offering digital work, using 35mm is less popular.

I can't remember the last time we used the 35mm camera.

Sigh-

I'll have to have a look next time in town but I can't remember seeing any for a long time in the department shops. I'm sure specialist shops would have it though.
I have a roll here that I never got around to using before I got my first digital camera but I reckon I'll jsut keep it for a "remember when" keepsake. smile

I never intended to stop using the SLR when I got a digital- you can't do certain things on a compact and the price of a DSLR hasn't gone down unlike laptops which are now a third of the price they started at. If I need to take views with a long lens and tripod I still have the SLR and they don't charge much more than before at the local chemist to develop them. The more we keep using them then the more people will continue to offer the service.
