flospy, your flower pictures are superb. A macro lens is a real boon. Have you ever thought about entering a competition? I really used to be heavily into photography, with a real camera and real film, and I have to say you have a talent for it.

Thanks Bob. blush

Actually I don't have a macro... to take those photos I used my standard 18-55mm lens held about 12-18 inches from the flower.

I've never entered a competition... Tell me more if you like. smile

Join a local photographic club. Most have several competitions per year based on different themes.

Where I live, the "track" in Satguru's picture would just be called a road, lol.

Here's some more of England's green and pleasant land - near Gayton, Northamptonshire.

Taken on a visit to Longleat. You can buy little cups of pellets and the deer come right up to the car window to be fed.

Flopsy, our previous London mayor spent 8 years gradually working his way through many of our main roads to bring them to a similar standard and the work appears to continue since his departure. My local council (who are responsible for all the unclassified roads) as many others have done their best to follow the county policy with as many others as possible, it would be far easier to drive through much of Kenya's back roads now than Brent.

A typical country scene near Latimer Bucks.

The church of St Mary The Virgin in Bampton, Oxfordshire (where I lived until last year). There has been a building on the site since before the Norman Conquest. The current building dates to 1153, except the tower, parts of which which are Anglo Saxon.

Another steeple...

This is the church steeple at Little Brington, not far from where I live. Oh wait... there's a steeple but what happened to the church?

According to Wikipedia, the chapel was built as an act of kindness by the local squire because the villages at Little Brington couldn't make it to the (much larger) church at Great Brington, but most of the buildings fell into disrepair and were demolished shortly after WWII.

However, according to local legend it was built because the squire had his grounds landscaped and wanted to see something tall in the view from his drawing room windows. Given that Little and Great Brington are less than a mile apart, and given that 19th century farmworkers would think nothing of walking a mile to church and back, I know which version I believe!

As for the squire... his name was Frederick, 4th Earl Spencer, and his great-great-great-grandson is HRH Prince William of Wales whose forthcoming wedding is what prompted me to post this now.

These marks are inside Bampton church, just behind the pulpit. They are, allegedly, 'Crusader's Crosses' scratched in to the stone by knights before going to the Holy Land.

What would we all do without roundabouts? Besides leading into Horsham this also gained me another square on the national map (I wasn't actually driving).

Following on from King Richard's Well a few days ago, this stone marks the spot where he fell.

Could Precious please tell Eugenie and Beatrice that they look awful in those hats/fascinators/monstrosities? I'd do it but they might send me to the Tower!

I've used this before in one of the recent themes but some may have missed it.
