French Open Tennis 2011

It's May, and that means that the high season of tennis is just about to begin. Next up is the second of this year's Grand Slam events, the French open at Roland Garros. Last year saw Rafael Nadal lift his fifth victory at this event and he looks to defend again this year. The women's side of things was won by Francesca Schiavone, her first Grand Slam win. After that she proceeded to bomb out of Wimbledon, but has made it to the quarterfinals of both the US Open and the Australian Open since then.

Over on our side of the competition, Sypher won the men's end of things while LeoDaVinci won on the ladies' side. They will both be here to repeat. On the ladies' side, of the six years that the competition has been running there have only been three winners - srini701, ElfTwinkle and LeoDaVinci. One of these tipsters will not be here to challenge, but the other two will.

Between May 22nd and June 5th, contestants will be sliding all over the red clay of Roland Garros trying to stop the two champions. Tipping threads (men's singles and women's singles) will be up here as soon as the draws are announced. Scoring will be the same as the one used for Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open:

5 pts x 1 : picking the winner.
3 pts x 2 : picking a semi-final winner (picking a finalist).
2 pts x 4 : picking a quarter-final winner (picking a semi-finalist).
1 pts x 8 : picking a quarter-finalist.

Additionally, sign up and you will get bonus points for the seeding of your correct picks, absolutely free of charge.

I haven't done a tennis tip yet. Is it like the March madness where we pick who we think will win each match or do we just pick our top 5 players at the beginning. I should be in if we pick ahead of time but will be on vacation while the actual tournament is going on so if I have to be present while it is going on, I might not be able to join.

I will undoubtedly choose Wozniacki and undoubtedly be let down again... but I've got to be right one of these times!

Rx, we pick who we think will be the 8 quarterfinalists, and then the 4 semifinalists, 2 finalists and the winner....we don't have to pick every match's winner. So it helps if you can wait till the draw is out. We have to lodge tips before the second round starts, so it really does not matter if you are not around when the tournament's going on...

On Friday the draws will be announced. The tipping threads are up and the links on them will work after the first round will have been drawn.

The draws are up and if it wasn't going to be a small enough pressence this year for American players, with the Williams sisters and Roddick out, Isner draws Nadal in the 1st Round, go Fish.

Wozniacki vs. Wozniak... Nadal forced to five sets... Ivanovic, Peer, Almagro, Cilic, Pennetta and Berdych among the big names already out...

Get your tips in SOON!

Less than 12 hours remain until the second round.

Playing like a hardcourt tourney, Isner taking Rafa to 5 on clay is just inexplicable

Sharapova nearly lost, Clijsters did lose, as did Jurgen Meltzer, and Nadal's serve looked weak against fellow Spaniard Andujar.

What will become of these seeded players?

The upsets just keep coming on the Women's side, #1 Caroline Wozniacki and #8 Samantha Stosur have already gone down today and it's not even half over. The men have only had Mikhail Youzhny as a big upset today, so far.

I am wondering if a tough match that Nadal had for his first round will take something out of him that he will need for the later rounds or will it take him out of his normal rhthym for major tournaments like this one.

This is getting ugly for me.

I might finish in the same spot as I did in Australia. Last!

I came close to picking Montanes and Chela to make the quarters, talked myself out of it, now I'm kicking myself

Today is the ECL final, no time for tennis. However, Del Potro and Djokovic just exchanged 6-3 sets... This one might turn interesting.

Well I'm upset, Srini! Only four of my picks left in on the female side (not helped by me picking one player twice - but on the positive side, she's still in).

There goes Zvonareva!

I got 4 of my women's picks still in. 3 of which I picked to go out in the next round!

Number 4 seed Azarenka out as well. Since I chose her twice to lose in the quarter finals, can I have double points??
