This won't work online, but try it with a friend. The trick is to say it very quickly, so they don't stop to think and respond immediately.

It goes as follows: I've got a really good knock knock joke but you have to start it.

I think you get the idea...

I'm always amazed that this one works, but it often does. And yes, rushing up to someone and being very fast and enthusiastic seems to be the key. "OK, ready? Go - say 'knock knock'"

Guess I'm dense tonight. What's the joke?

This won't work online, but try it with a friend. The trick is to say it very quickly, so they don't stop to think and respond immediately.

It goes as follows: I've got a really good knock knock joke but you have to start it.

I think you get the idea...

All I see is the friend saying either "Knock, knock," or, "Who, me?" confused

Friend says 'Knock, knock".
You say "Who's there?"
Friend says "Um, er, oops, I don't know!". smile

This one also only really works verbally, but in a different way. Say it out loud:

Knock Knock

Who's there?

A little old lady

A little old lady who?

I didn't know you could yodel!

I have a couple of knock knock jokes that are Harry Potter-based:

1. Harry Potter: Knock knock
Hermione Granger: Who's there?
HP: Interrupting Snape
HG: Interr...
HP: (impersonating Snape) Ten points from Miss Granger for being an incurable know-it-all

2. Harry Potter: Knock knock
Draco Malfoy: Who's there?
HP: I am
DM: I am who?
HP: Were you hit with the Memory Charm?
