I just had a total WarGames flashback. What a great, but potentially frustrating, badge!

I don't. It would be very hard to synchronise for people in different time zones, and therefore I think it favours those in larger teams who have more people readily available to organise this with. I also think it's extremely harsh to take away the earning potential if someone else equals that score; that effectively means that all the three players have to stay active until the end of the FT day just in case someone else is close to their score, and they need a final adjustment.

It's a also a new concept; your badges are not just dependent on you, but also on other people working with you. Many players may not wish or be able to find someone to take part with.

I know the standard response will be that if I don't like it, then I don't have to go for it; I'm used to hearing that from some players. However, if it's acceptable for Kyle to post that he likes it, then I think it's equally acceptable for me to post that I don't.

I think this one is a great little piece of variety - it asks players to do something they would not normally do: work together and coordinate efforts. You don't necessarily need to stay up until just before FunTrivia midnight as it's not that hard to go for 5,000 points. In fact, you can just agree with three people that all will independently go for a specific random number. If anyone accidentally passes it, adjust or just go at it again the next day. If someone duplicates you, well, try again next day. I would say that any dedicated trio can nail this within five attempts (note that you don't even need to have those players in your FT team. Any three can make it.)

I don't see it as a team combined effort. It doesn't need to be a pal who has your same score. I think it is going to be more luck of the draw rather than a planned attack.

It's probably not for everyone, but then again, neither is "hardcore" and about 20 other badges. I for one would never have the slightest interest in trying for ANY of the monthly badges.

It most certainly will be easier if you purposefully work together with others to achieve. They don't need to be on your team. You are able to mail any player online, group up on chat boards / forums, etc.

It's definitely not a random thing - it's Point Precision III with a social component. You may get unlucky with someone else hitting your number, but even between just 5000 and 7000, there were only 130 scores yesterday (some of which were surely duplicates), so unless someone maliciously interferes and knows your number, any group of three correctly making the score will thus have a 93% chance at the badge without even considering what anyone else does.

If you go above 7000, your chances increase exponentially smile

Three Keys:

Awarded to a set of 3 players who meet the following requirements:

1. Each of their total scores for a day are at least 5000 points.
2. All three total daily scores are equal.
3. No more than three people score that exact number of points.
4. None of the three people have this badge yet.

i.e. if Wes, me, and Loony score 5234 points, and we're the only ones to do it, we each get the badge.

"Interesting". That's not exactly what I would call it. I just hope I get it by accident and never have to worry about it again. :P

It actually doesn't particularly need much planning. You could look at the scoreboard, realize that a few people near you could catch you up, and then you have to try to talk them into scoring 30 points to reach your score.

Of course, they may have other plans for the day like playing team games, which could mean you're out of luck... but, you certainly can just score 5000 points and then "just try to work it out" then through mails smile

Still hoping for an "expert" version badge for Triathlon for which I've posted several suggestions in the past.

They actually don't need to be unplayed. This is how we can let non-GMs do this badge... we base it on "recent scoreboard" data, which includes 2nd/3rd plays (a few weeks apart) for all players. FYI smile

So as long as you haven't played a quiz in a few weeks, your play will count for 24 hours badges.

Oh, how I wish I had known that yesterday! There are some really nice quizzes I would have enjoyed visiting again. cry

What I don't get is if John Spencer's character gets shot in that scene, how are they to get both keys turned? His partner clearly didn't think that through! lol

I have to ask, is anything new going to be done for FMI? We've been patient, and FMI seems to be the neglected child of FT. We could use a little love here.

Uh oh-- I think the person who won the Three Keys badge was only meant to win the 12345 badgelet-- the rest of us who went for Three Keys haven't been rewarded thus far.

How about a nice little badgelet for the runners-up in the Chrystal Ball? It could be called (as Maxwell Smart would say) Missed It By That Much...

...and I know from both Kyle's group and my own that this was a completely planned for and coordinated attempt - this should hopefully prove that this one isn't random but that you can very successfully play for it.

I thought you had to be in the same team to win this badge?Eyhung is not in the same team as Wes and TriviaFan.

I did notice that they all won the 6789 mini badge, so perhaps there is a problem with the formula.

Bubba, the 6789 was part of the plan. It was eyhung and me strategizing but we couldn't find a third player. Then we saw TriviaFan comfortably resting on 6789 and were quite sure he didn't want to go for any more points that day, so we messaged him and he was quick to join, killing two birds with one stone. (eyhung and I already had the 6789 badgelet anyway)

And no, you don't need to be on the same FT team. It would be way too difficult on the smaller teams which might have only six or eight active members.

Three Keys might be easier to organise with two of your team mates, but you could also create a special chat on the forums to coordinate (as most competitors did in the FT Race and most pairs can use in the FT Sprint).

Seen the 6789 idea as it was happening and thought "like your thinking there" but since i was over that went for the next one 12345 and joined someone who had that same score. Alas for me lol as badge tarts are like buses never one when you need one cry

Still a great idea and ideal for good team work if your on team. Confident i will nab this badge so thumbs up from me for what its worth smilee for this idea

Has a monthly badge for the Word Wizard mini-game ever been considered for the Top Ten finishers each month? I would think that would be a badge worthy of pursuing.

It occurs to me that for most badges/badglets, it's possible to know whether you've achieved the requirements for the challenge, however with regards to the three keys challenge this is less clear and may result in lots of posts into the forum saying "We've met the criteria, why haven't we got the badge". Particularly if another player from another team manages to coincidentally score the same as your team.

In the challenge page, assuming the information is stored, it may be worth adding something along the lines of... "The scores qualifying for the badge yesterday were xxxx, xxxx, xxxx and xxxx. If you did not achieve one of these scores it is likely that one of the other criteria for the badge was not met. Good luck next time!"

The latest winners are listed and you can check their scores either on their profile or on the final scores for the previous day at http://www.funtrivia.com/yesterday.cfm

Our success at Three Keys was definitely planned. It was a nervous final couple of hours hoping that no-one else would finish on our score! I did actually e-mail someone who was temporarily on our score (6928) asking them to kindly keep scoring (pretty please) - fortunately they did so!

Well done, Mike (and your two cohorts). It is a bit amusing that they both got one more brain than you, but I think you would be willing to overlook that trifle. smile

At last have a set of keys i can't lose down the back of the couch grin. Did pm the other two players i joined on there score in case it was a team run since they was on the same team, as i would have moved on if that was the case. The evilside of this is fighting the urge to carry on playing after spending a few hours monitering the scores. Maybe in the future they could be a team based one set around getting the same score over a few days, my partner would be happy as it mean me not on here but i'd be bouncing of the walls.

Yes ozzz2002, I'm absolutely livid about that! Not really... I was the third member of the trio to get the score so it's only fair that I be the one to miss out on one brain. Like zonko, I had to resist the temptation to keep playing. * Word of advice to prospective key collectors - obviously make sure you've completed all essential tasks for the day (e.g. GC, Pot of Gold, Daily Quiz New Question Game - had to put that in there!!) before deciding on the target score for your trio. And watch out for those hourly point bonuses, so try to get finalised with probably 2-3 hours left in the day to allow for any late adjustments required.
