It's been awhile since I've been on FunTrivia and I can't remember where to find The Point Tree Game. I know how to play the bonus games, but in what menu and option do I find The Point Tree Game?

Point Tree is a level perk Jez. I have the perks page on my personal links menu though, so I have no idea where you would find it...

The point tree is found through the Quizzyland Home Page Top Task Bar, Me, Level Perks, Level 20, Extra Game Point Tree, click on 'goto'
This is one of those pages I do not think a link can be made to but here is the address in my browser window when I'm there:
http://www.funtrivia.com/bonus/

Whining about the point tree timer again. Now that I'm playing the GC in Hardcore mode, I really do try to play faster and often get in just under 130 seconds. In the point tree, this works against me. The questions are often longer and if I do know the topic well, I hate skipping questions that I could have gotten right. I just got 15/15 in the Awards perk round, in 121 seconds, and I scored zero. Why can't the timing be made the same as the HC at the least, to allow people to use the same "internal clock" for both games.

Calculating your score..
Questions correct: 15 / 15
You took 121 seconds to complete this quiz.
Sorry, you took over 120 seconds! No bonus awarded.

Just a thought for unification purposes.

Sue

Yes, sue.
I answer 0 question and score over 300...and answer over 10+ question and score 270. Isn't a great deal reading long questions.

Joe, scoring 0 and clicking the "skip the question" button will give you more points than answering all of them and losing the points for incorrect guesses. I think what Sue is pointing out is solely about the time, not the score. smile

Thanks, salami. That is what I meant. The time penalty on this game, which often has much longer questions, is even more strict than the Hardcore GC penalty. If they could be unified, it would make it easier to actually read the questions through and do them justice.

It's a little unfair the bonus. I play and score over 300 with 0 questions correct and with 8-10 correct in 100-119sg score under 300.

If I remember correctly, you don't get the time bonus if you have 0 questions correct, so you can't score 300. Or perhaps that only happens if you 'pass' on all 15. In any case, the point of the Tree is speed, not knowledge. If you can't answer a question at a glance, just skip it. If you have to spend 5-10 seconds to read the question, you've already lost the points it's worth.

Discount for a bad answer plus discount 2 points/sec, and score 0 for pass 120 sec. The pass in all question in darker topics isn't a bad idea.

Well, I just scored 350 after passing on every question quickly on one category, so that's not the case. smile
I beat that on two categories playing properly and lost on one but only by a little bit. However I was still going very quickly on those.

But yes the rest is correct. It is a bit too generous for those going quickly, IMO, but it's such a minor part of the site I wouldn't want to divert any major attention to it.

The site it's fantastic. But suggestions are not bad to see how to improve that which exists.
A little idea it's don't penalice the wrong answers and increase the point for question.

Not quite. You don't get the time bonus if you take under 20 seconds, regardless of questions correct. So if you zoom through and pass on all questions, you probably won't get the bonus. But if you zoom through and answer a couple of easy questions quickly, you probably won't get the bonus either. I don't think it's particularly fair, but then again, the idea of getting points for passing isn't exactly that fair either.

The only problem I find is that when you pass on a question, you are not told the correct answer when you get the results.

Could someone explain the purpose of the Point Tree Game. What I mean is, since the points bypass the daily total, it doesn't seem to be a very useful thing.

If it could be used to add to one's daily total, then it would be very handy for getting the Endurance badge, winning a Daily Challenge, or many other things.

But since it isn't counted on your "Points Today", just in overall FT points, all it would seem to do is push your point level up a little. Maybe that will help you win Point Duke, King, etc. badges and certain other badges, but then you could also get them just playing all The Daily, Mind Melt, etc., which do go on your Points Today and help you in other ways.

I don't think there is a 'purpose'. It's listed as a perk, and just another game to play if you want to. You also get an option to take a crossword and earn some points as another perk. I agree that the scoring is a little odd, since guessing is penalised while not answering at all isn't, but no-one is forced to play it.

Thanks, rossian. Just wondering why a decision was made to make these points "special" and not count toward the daily total.

I'm not complaining about the game, mind you! I play it now and then and enjoy the challenge, even if I fail to score any points for taking too long.

I'm just curious about why Terry made these points "special". Except for authoring quizzes, no other points bypass Points Today, right?

Because it's a lot of points. You get about 350 for each game, so someone over level 80 could add almost 1500 points to their daily total just with the Point Tree.

I can't speak for Terry, but I've always assumed that he created it just to add something different. You can add a good number of points to your overall total, but not to your daily total, Gil Galad, which is why gracious1 was querying it. I do play it, and try to beat the 'average's score, but it's not one of my favourites as it feels a bit isolating when you can only see your own score.

I enjoy wrapping up the week with it, but I agree with dippo, and wish that the answers to skipped questions would be available.

I know, that's what I was trying to point out. It's a lot of points, so it makes sense that it doesn't get added to the daily total, just like when you get a quiz online.

The "bonus points" you get for completing the Crossword of the Week... do those go on the daily total?

I did the crossword and got this message:

Code:
You have completed the crossword of the week.
You have earned 200 bonus points.

You scored 100 bonus points for completing this puzzle. Congratulations!

Does that mean I got 300 points? Are they "bonus" points or regular FT points?

@ an average of 1300 points a week over the year depending what level you are it could add 68000 points to your total, not to be sniffed at
