Very sad to hear of the death at only 52 of the erratic, cheerful England fast-bowler of the 1980s who earned himself a place in cricket legend for his unexpected batting performance in 1981 against Australia which helped inspire the most unlikely turnaround in Test history, after even St.Jude had packed up and gone home saying he didn't feel too good. For all his subsequent inability to fulfil his true potential as a bowler, Dilley's hour-and-a-half in the sun with a bat at Headingley will be remembered by English cricket fans - and probably Australian ones too! - for a long, long time to come.

This Australian also remembers the dismissal that was grist for commentators for many years-

"Lillee, caught Willey, bowled Dilley".

Well, said, Carti. Very sad as he was so young.
