I don't think I've ever suggested a badge for coming top overall in the New Questions Game so I'm not sure what my name is doing against that suggestion though it's not a bad idea so maybe I should claim it. wink However, I have asked for such a badge in the World Game... several times!

Thanks for the continuing ideas smile We're getting close to an update period, so I'll get my programming cap on shortly and add some of these ideas smile

Yay for badge additions - maybe a few of those level-based ones as well? Especially the lower and middle sets could use some more love to make our members more eager to get those ranks smile

I can't wait for a new set of badge additions! And this thread doesn't even have all the badge suggestions; there are a few in other threads, such as the gold member additions thread. laugh

And I'm with Flopsy.... I don't recall making such a suggestion for Mega Master... But it's a good idea, so I will claim it, too. wink I believe the one of me saying 100 crystal ball wins as well as sending a note to me saying that I'm awesome. -_- What was I thinking? :P

Hmmm, another badge idea.

We currently cap off the point levels at Point God, which is 1,000,000 points. Back n the day, this was a huge achievement. The top 200 could be achieved with less than 500,000. Now, a million seemed to be received in just a few months by some players. Also, we have about a thousand (or more, I don't know the exact number) players with a million points.

We also have a fairly large amount with 5,000,000. Perhaps a new badge upgrade (not an entirely new badge, but an upgrade just like the current points badges) could be implemented with 5,000,000 points? Point God of the Gods, or Point Universal Sovereign or something. Perhaps, even after that level, there could be one for 20,000,000, a considerable gap from 5-20 mil, but that's part of the fun....

And perhaps a mega badge for 25,000 monster questions? I was going to suggest 50,000 questions; but at the current rate, playing once a day ever day plus the extra game a week, it would take 8 years; so I thought I'd cut that in half. wink

I'll revive a suggestion that I made quite some time ago, probably about two years, that will address the "epic level" awards and actually make them more universal without making the player levels soar to infinity:

The concept is that a lot of badges have a bronze, silver and gold upgrade. They keep the same icon and title, but the background looks more like a metal thing. They also have requirements that are typically much higher than those of the normal badge.

A few examples:

Point god - Bronze at 2.5 mil, Silver at 5 mil, Gold at 10 mil
Achievement: Mind Melt - Bronze for 240 secs, Silver for 180, Gold for 120 (all with 30/30)
Hourly division winners: Bronze for 25, Silver for 50, Gold for 100 wins in the same game
Monthlies: Placing 3rd / 2nd / 1st for an entire tournament. No hand-downs.
GC: Achieving a top 10 / top 4 / 1st place for an entire tournament.
Pot of Gold: Completing each mini 5 / 10 / 25 times. (Goes for the mini and for the big one)
Brains: 5k, 10k and 20k
Monster: 20k, 30k, 50k
KO: 300, 400 and 500 points.
Author: 250, 500 and 1000 quizzes

When I checked, about 70 badges (not even counting badgelets) had criteria that would make them upgradeable this way. About half of those are based on data that we can retroactively track and thus award, the others (like hourly win counts) would be something everyone would be starting fresh on - lots of replay value.

The criteria should be set such that ambitious players can get the bronzes with some decent effort, silvers should be difficult enough that they'll remain quite exclusive (a few hundred) and golds should really never be more than 100 of each.

Then of course, the real prizes (level-triggered megabadges):

Bronze Challenger (75th) - gain 25 bronze (or better) awards
Silver Legend (125th) - gain 35 silver (or better) awards
Gold Eternal (175th! and pretty much impossible to get) - gain 50 gold awards

PS @ Terry: I still have the graphics files I made for those sitting around. Would only be a few hours to update with the later additions, so no heavy work there.

I love this idea, Wes.

This will keep pretty much all the games alive... With all those who stopped playing because they have nothing to shoot for, I say nay. Shoot for the gold!

Wesley, with your idea, must you hold the bronze before getting silver, and silver before getting bronze? For instance, say you get 30 right in 119 seconds on Mind Melt.... Do you win just the bronze, and have to do that again for silver and once more for gold, or will all 3 be awarded? I ask because I can foresee a few players getting 30 in 120 seconds on the first day the badges come out...

On the ones where your score is measured by a single peak performance, you can jump right to gold. The same applies for monthlies or GC - you get that gold medal for your first win, not your third...

Nice effort, joecali.

I'll support Wesley's idea on bronze, silver and gold badges.

Would there also be room for bronze, silver and gold upgrades for quiz writing? Some of the best authors have a large number of excellent quizzes (sunglasses, thumbs), while others have a high percentage of sunnies. Maybe there should be some extra awards for the best quiz authors.

Sure would be. I've already mentioned the one for basic authoring, the same could be applied for crosswords (10/20/50), sunnies (50/100/200), question quest (200/300/500) and ECs (2/5/10).

Slight problem with sunnies, though, is that they are not permanent. I have 4 quizzes that once had sunnies, but no longer quite make it. As time goes on and more brilliant new quizzes are written, I expect that more quizzes will slowly drift out of the sunnies region. An author close to the number for a badge/upgrade might qualify one week but then not the next. Last time I counted, I had 146, so am comfortably in the over 100 zone, but if I were on exactly 100, I would wonder what was going to happen when the quiz rated 17999 drops two places and loses sunnies.

Looney, I would imagine they would work just as the 20 sunnies badge. As it stands, you win the sunnies badge as soon as you have 20 quizzes with sunnies. However, if you drop to 19 sunnies the very next week, you keep your sunnies badge. I would think it's the same for 100 sunnies.

So if you were exactly at 100, nothing would happen if you dropped to 99 sunnies.

Also, the sunnies count is occasionally adapted to come back to 20% of the total online quiz count. It's been a while since that last happened, so I expect the cutoff to move during one of the next updates (likely to 22,000)

Not sure if this is too late, but figured i'd throw it in anyway. i did a really quick count of badges this am and found

49 for playing quizzes
18 for badge/pt accumulations
04 puzzle
06 team
92 for playing games
15 author
09 other.

I know that's prob available somewhere, but i couldn't find it smile at any rate, i did that to see if my thoughts were off-base....

I would like to suggest a "platinum" sunny badge for any quiz rated in the top 100 (or some other top #). But a number, not a percent, I think. It's a goal i'm striving for, love to find a badge when I get there.

And then, how about quizzes played? Quizzer is 1000 quizzes played, could have 10,000 and 100,000 quizzes played? I also think the topic ones, especially the hunts, are very good to help learn what's where on the site--a bonus perhaps.

how about expanding quiz of the hour to include more than one quiz? keep one the same as now, but have a second quiz from the "new list" of the last 24 hours? or last week?

at any rate, more thoughts....

Anton, I'm going to mimic shuehorn...

What one person hates another person loves.

If you don't like the Googling badges, don't go for those badges. There are others who would like to see an obscure game overall winner badge. You perhaps don't want it; others do. It's the way things are; not all badges are for everyone.
