that is not even fair. - YOUR COMMENTS - it's been months since Terry's post and this is an issue that needs to be addressed. and as i have posted before - this is an issue that will not go away until it is resolved.

My "amen" comment was from two months ago. I would define that as being rather patient.

His comments were fair. Funtrivia is a privilege, not a right. When Terry adds things it is a great bonus. But, complaining about it nastily is simply wrong. If he wants to take six years for changes, it is still a bonus for us. We do nothing. Get a grip.

asawdust--the comment you posted as if it were mine is not mine. Not sure where it came from, but I have never asked for anything on this site using those terms. I make requests, sometimes, but am always respectful.

This 'team jumping' limitation bothers me for this reason. I once left a team because one player was allowed to made rude comments towards those on disabilities and pensions. Humor or otherwise, my request to have it stopped was 'outvoted' by the team leader so I left the team.

Little did I know that the member who was using the predjudiced comments had gotten angry with me and they decided to skip the team before I did.

Well, I ended up going to another team, only to find the other former member had joined the same team just before me. I wrote them to ask if they felt uncomfortable about me being on the team and that I would leave if they felt intimidated by my presence. They responded that "I can do what I want" so I decided to stay to save going to another team.
I then received a note from the team leader telling me if I didn't leave, they'd remove me because the other person had accused me of stalking them.

I immediately left as this type of accusation is extremely serious, and in this case, completely wrong.

I wrote the team leader letting them know my concern as to the situation, to which they then apologized and admitted "they had been wrong in their 'stalking' assumption" as they hadn't even investigated it before asking me to leave. They continued to apologize and kept asking me to stay to which I finally told them that it was now "I who felt stalked" and due to "the seriousness of the allegations" that I no longer wanted them to ever contact me again.

This was very scary for me as stalking is no minor matter and I will admit that I was one seriously angry, and somewhat nervous, individual.

Having said all that, what alternative does one have in certain situations, with that being a worst case scenario, to have the right to leave a team when being accused of a crime and then being bothered by a team leader who hadn't even talked to me before booting me from the team.

These are issues for consideration before making a rule that people cannot leave teams when they feel they need to, or frankly, when they feel they wish to.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to your response on this.

Mike from Regal Beagles

I can't speak for Terry, but it seems like this will be attended to when it's attended to. Teams have been on the site longer than I have and there have been only minor changes since day dot. If some minor changes are made, that's great; if not, that's fine too.

We'll just have to wait and see.

If the team jumping issue is a major concern, my suggestion would be to avoid the teams section of the site until it's resolved; there's no point in stressing over something minor when the site has a lot to offer.

Besides, let Terry enjoy the Christmas season. wink

Wise words, Kyle! And to mayneeyak's point, whenever you have strange problems that go beyond the normal guildelines of rules, you can always reach out to the moderators and ask for assistance. I don't think there is any hard and fast rule on this site that can't be understood differently under the right circumstances, on a case by case basis.

Mike, I think the point about team jumping wasn't meant to prevent players from *leaving* a team, but to prevent players from *joining* too many teams in a short period of time (say, 3 or 4 in a week). So, in your situation, one might be teamless for a week, but not forced to stay where they are uncomfortable.

Personally, I don't mind players coming in, looking around, deciding we are not for them, and then leaving after a few days.

I will admit that I don't mind walking alone through dark alleys but I am (and have been) frightened by the damage that anonymous internet users can do.

I see team-hopping as a nuisance, except when it's being done by spies who plead sanctuary, spend a day with their new team, then dance back to their original team. That's cheap.

Or, better yet, Lesley, when someone joins your team, ruined your team score for a day, and goes back to the original team.

It is in my opinion that Terry will get to this problem when he gets to it... But it WILL be soon. Yes, he said he would, and I have no doubt in my mind he will. However, someone on here mentioned that he "made a promise". But, he didn't promise how soon this problem would be resolved. So, if it is fixed in 25 years, he still kept his promise.

But, don't fear, FunTrivianites, I do believe we will see a TON of bug fixes, new features, badges, and the like in about a week. Terry has said on some post that the next update will be after all the holidays are over. So next week, I presume. Or a week or two later. But soon.

"I have no doubt in my mind he will." I bask in your radiant optimism. smile

I knew about the teams of spies but not about people who come in just to mess the team scores. Sounds like people who take all the quizzes written by someone they dislike, get every question wrong and rate it poor. Unkind!

There are players who do that, Lesley. Unfortunately, what can we do about it? If someone plays every single one of my quizzes, and rate them poor, that's what they did.... There is no way to prove they were against me.

Of course, you could figure out the single player who did it... By looking at stats. But what's to say they are not just a bitter person who is so manically depressed that none of my quizzes excites them? I can't say they dislike me, necessarily.

And, really, is rating every quiz of a person poor bannable? I don't think so; I find that some authors I just tend to rate a little less because I don't like their rating style. I don't mean to do that, but sometimes it just happens.

However, if you see someone pop into your team, score 2 right in 10 seconds in the team games, and leave a few days later after doing that, and goes back to the team they were on, who, perhaps, was one behind the team they "sabotaged" in the monthly standings, THAT is bannable, and very rude, inconsiderate, pick your words; they all fit. :P

Actually, I think this is impossible. If you get more than a certain number of questions wrong, you cannot rate a quiz. I guess people could go and take the quiz and get half right and then rate the quiz badly, but you can't get all wrong and then rate, I think to stave off the sour grapes reaction of disliking a quiz you've done poorly on.

Yep, you must get at least 2 correct for your rating to count. smile

People can still get 2 right and rate poorly though, just because they dislike someone.

If I don't like a person's style of writing, or if I don't like an individual (I can't think of anyone), I just don't take their quizzes. This isn't high school.

I've recently been the recipient of double sends through the Quizzyland PM'ing system. Was it always capable of doing that or is it a consequence of allowing team leaders to Spam?

One other thing that would be extremely handy would be the ability for the team leader to delete the names of former teammates who, for whatever reason, have moved on to other teams, as free agents, or from the entire site.

While it does show how many players are actually on a team, and how many players are "active," we have names of teammates in our team roster who have been gone for months and months and/or years, including the date they joined the team.

When they leave, their names remain in perpetuity!

Being able to clean up the team roster would be great. Maybe add this to the long, long list of ideas? It's definitely not urgent, but it would be oh-so-nice.

Thanks,

~Elle

Some of the responses given cause me to want to avoid the forums altogether. Several people are answering for Terry when it seems that he's quite capable of answering for himself.
Is this not what the forum is for? To ask questions, pursue issues, and seek out answers to problems one feels they're encountering? And to be told, "Terry will get to it when he gets to it" when all I did was explain a situation I encountered causing me to have to change teams is akin to being told to "put up and shut up".
I never even asked anyone specific to look into the issue, I only said, "I look forward to a response". If that's being too pushy then it might be time to re-write the rules and guidelines regarding the feedback forum.
I waited a long time now, patiently, for that response because I feel intimidated by the comments and responses I've received on this thread and a few others for that matter.
I can appreciate that Terry "has a life" and understand why some come forward to 'stick up' for him, yet most of us are only using the forum for what we deem it to be for. I respect the job he does and offer him kudos for the excellent site he has provided for so many. When I used the forums, I didn't even address Terry as I thought there were individuals assigned specifically to each forum and that it would be them who looked into thematters brought forth.
Thank you to all who work hard for FT.

Over the years we have from time to time asked people not to answer queries here and in the Quiz Authoring Q&A forum unless they are positive of their answer, and at the top of the Quiz Authoring Q&A forum it actually says "If you do not know the answer to a question, please leave it for an editor to reply." I agree that it is less than helpful for people to put what they think rather than fact. Most of our editors have 'Editor' in their signatures so that members know that the person is replying with fact and not guesswork.

Perhaps it is time again to remind people again.

Blackdresss, that feature actually exists. It is however not extremely user-friendly since you need to enter member names one by one.

As a team leader, all your team admin options are on http://www.funtrivia.com/friends.cfm - and there is a link "remove member".

In the line above that, you have a "List Members" link which is sorted by last seen date. You can thus go into that list, copy and paste all names that have been inactive for more than a certain amount of time (teams that implement clean-up usually set 6 or 12 months) into a document and then take them from that document one by one to delete. It takes a few hours on a larger team (when I took over the Cat People from their "public group" status, I had to deal with over 800 such removals), but it gets the job done.

(And yes, I've asked Terry for an automatic inactive member removal tool before - set a cutoff date, enter the names of any grandfathered "honor" accounts you wish to retain in some field and off they go in one swipe of the broom. However this isn't really a high priority considering that we do have something that works).

While I'm in the Forum I'd like to know when the mailing all team members will be available for team leaders.

I'd also like to know if, and when it is available, will it be possible to only send messages to certain members, for example if we want to throw a surprise birthday party and only want to send invitations to everyone except the recipient aka the surprisee, is that possible?

I got picked up for spam mail in the last team I was in, so I was just wondering smile

"While I'm in the Forum I'd like to know when the mailing all team members will be available for team leaders."

This is now available. Go to the team / setup area:

http://www.funtrivia.com/friends.cfm

Select "Send Team Mail". One mailing is allowed every 30 days.

I'll post this to the news section.
