It turns out that because the sign was for a railway they were also able to make the signs and they had a different font to the roads. It's a rarely used option and the first I've seen but as it's 50 years too late for a decent sample set then I don't know how many others there were.

This is near Hertford on the way there. It's a good thing I took the photos when I did and a video today as we've just had even more snow since then than we did on Saturday and I've got to go out tomorrow evening.

We got a bit of snow overnight, and the temperature dropped too. Although she went for her walk this morning, and asked for her afternoon one, as soon as we got outside the second time, Precious stopped. She tried to shrug out of her harness, and when I put a stop to that she just sat there with one foot raised until I opened the door and let her back inside. Poor kitty!

I have always said the best countryside in England has to be in Kent, here is an example in Lullingstone

On a recent trip into the country, we found a wonderful little bookshop in Donnybrook. Their counter is decorated with old book covers. Maynooth, coolcat90 and I all walked out with an armload of books.

A typical English country pub in Dorney, which is also a conservation area, just next to Eton.

A bit of personal history, this was taken outside my friend's house I went to regularly from about 1970-1990 when he disappeared off the scene. It was a big family and was always something going on, both parents were artists and each had a studio upstairs, and they bred Burmese cats who think they are human and have to share their meals so whenever I ate there two or three cats would be competing for whatever we were having.

Precious doesn't usually like to stay out in the snow, but today's fall was light and fluffy and fun to play with. It wasn't too cold, either, and she enjoyed three separate outings. Not sure what she's trying to catch here, but she had fun trying!

War Memorial, Old Eldon Square, Newcastle
The war memorial, designed by Charles Hartwell, was erected after the First World War. Legend has it that everyone in Newcastle paid a shilling to pay for construction.
