I'd actually argue that this can be solved without solving the first half. Had I not been so dead set on getting it the right way, it would've fallen to some educated brute force. Still an element of luck in there, but it's not like you'd have to start with a, then b, ..., aa, ab, ..., zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, ...

Also, the amount of effort/skill for this to *only* be a minibadge doesn't seem right. Maybe I'm biased, though.

Well it's not intended to be something that most people should aim for.... it's just a silly little side show, and thus a mini badge.

Besides, ultimately people will cheat and tell other people the answer. If it was a badge cheating would be worse.

A "silly little sideshow"? I don't live far from Bletchley Park you know, round here code-breaking is a way of... going grey overnight, lol. They rebuilt Colossus a little while ago, now I know why.

I find it amazing that after all the effort to solve it yourself that people would tell other people the answer - that just boggles my mind.

My curious mind wants to know the rationale behind that LOL

I think there's a definite difference between telling someone the answer and helping someone out with a hint or to let them know that they are on the right path

A fellow member and I are trying to figure it out together am have nothing. Lol

Ihaven't had any real time to work on it. What really irks me is that I know I have seen at least the symbols for the first code before, but can't remember where. It could even be the same one! For the second, I am assuming that the first one will help me work out what seems the most likely sort of code from the messages I have seen here - it needs a keyword that should be obtainable from the first part, which I hope is a straight substitution cipher which can be broken with a bit of time. Unfortunately, time is in short supply just now

Looney, I also think the second half needs a keyword contained in the first half. Unfortunately, I think I have the first half solved, but alas, no keyword is contained. Lol

I can't figure out if the capitals in the second half are significant.

I have to have some badges I can go for since I can't compete for anything that needs a fast time.

Oops, obviously I have erred on what I really know about the second half! Big surprise. I think I have the right cipher but the "for sure" keyword was not too sure apparently. :-)

I have deffo got Part 1- am on the right track for Part 2...time to take another break afore I start banging my head on the desk lol I shall be seeing 'password incorrect' in my sleep!

I have definitely cracked the first half. The second half I have partly solved. Just not the important half. I am so stuck I have clue what to do now. :-(

I am now adopting a position of feigned indifference regarding this puzzle, in the forlorn hope that the answer will at some point whack me across the back of the head.

I have gone so far as to download a learned discourse on the theory behind, and principles used in, the encryption and decryption processes of the methodology adopted for the second part of the puzzle.

Of course I can't be bothered to read it, and even if I could... You know that line from Jerry Maguire "You had me at hello"? - well, this lost me at "Firstly..."

I have the first part done and think I know what to do to solve the second. If only a word would just pop out at me to help me along !!!!!

Thanks for hints, as the floor in my house is covered with letters from the keyboard after headbutting it. Maybe thats a way to solve it

like a few people here i was the same with the first part, knew i had seen it somewhere. However it was my daughter who found it for me (grounding her that) after many hours of me swearing at the moniter. That lead me to what i fought was the final cipher, which until this mini badge came along i had never heard of. Will admit frustrating as hell, but its been a good to think i think. Going for lie down now as i got the space bar in forehead
