I believe you are supposed to be sent an e-mail when you Gold Membership is due to expire, but this didn't happen to me last year (and I haven't changed my e-mail in years). I've never heard of anyone getting an email. You can set PayPal up to renew automatically but you then have to remember to stop it if you don't want to renew or it will go on forever. Or if you get so many gift vouchers that poor Terry has to keep the site going for years just to honour them.

Mine expired in early February and I didn't get a reminder email. The only email I got was the one after it had expired telling me it had expired.
Yes, I did check my SPAM mailbox too.

I don't renew anymore. I believe I can get everything I need, as a 'Non-Gold" member.
I am on the FT site every day, but I don't need to be a GM.

Wow, I pay two gold memberships every year (for my sister and myself), and I actually have another mystery one that gets discounted automatically, but even with the extra $20 fee, it is more than worth it to me. I love the stats that I get to have, the gold member madness, the word wizard extra game, the perks, the fantasy KO game,... And just knowing that because I pay the place can stay around longer for both those who do and don't pay, wouldn't have it any other way.

If only for not having to put up with ads! The extra features are also fantastic. I spend more on an evening out in a decent restaurant than on a full year of Fun Trivia - I'd give up the dinner any day.

Are you saying that you are paying twice for yours? If this is the case please check your Paypal account to see what you have set up as regular payments, if you have an extra payment to us set up please delete it and then give us more details through the message system so that we can arrange refunds of the overpayments.

I have been meaning to do that. I was actually thinking of letting you guys give a scholarship to someone who is not able to continue being gold (if you have any of those cases). It started when I set up the automatic payments to get Laura's membership paid each year, I must have done something silly for my own and made it pay twice in a few month period each year. I will look into it and let you know. But I mean what I said, it's worth every penny!

Just sent you a PM about the payments, Sue. Thanks for giving me the shove I needed to sort it out.

Yes, I did check my SPAM mailbox too. I think mine expired in January, but whenever it was, I only got a message after it expired (well, presumably the minute it expired), like you. To be honest, I don't really care - I can go a couple of hours without membership (except this month - I'm trying for Obscurity monthly).

My PayPal is set up to automatically renew the payment, if that's something others want to consider. It's definitely worth every penny and I could never go back to being a non-Gold member!

I really didn't need the reminder email either, I knew it was about to expire and for the time being can't renew. Just thought I'd point out that no reminder email was sent. I enjoyed the Gold Membership but needed a break, and with fewer games to play each day, it's enough of a break. I'll be a GM again in the future.

It may be true that "reminder" emails were sent in the past. I don't know for sure, because I think I set Funtrivia up on a hotmail account that I look at maybe once a year and just go in and delete almost everything. None of my friends in real life send me messages there, but it seemed like a good location at the time I signed up.
I know approximately what month the annual thing "should" kick in (judging from my initial start), but every time I've renewed it, it has moved on at least a week (because I'm a procrastinator lol). I usually notice when someone in the threads is nice enough to point out to me "hey jake, did you lose your GM status today?" Very helpful bunch we have here : )
I can understand folks letting things "automatically" renew (especially if they're young) but I distrust most things on the internet and positively will not allow automatic continuous debits from my bank account/credit cards (other than for something like, say, a mortgage). And hey, when you get to my age, you start thinking about mortality ~~~
In any case, the annual membership fee is a small price to pay. You can't even take your family to a movie (with minimal snacks) for that amount.
If a person can afford internet + cable for a year (which costs about $100 per MONTH where I live), membership here for a YEAR is small potatoes by comparison.
Yes, I get that some folks, by necessity, might need to log on from a public library or a university website. On the other hand, I don't know how many times someone has told me they have a Mac system or similar (which I personally can't afford lol) and then say they can't spend x dollars for membership for a full year when I know they spend more than that buying one round of beers for their "mates". (not that it's wrong, it's a friendly thing to do - and hey, it's your money, you can do what you want with it, but one has to admit that in certain cases it's sort of hypocritical lol)
FunTrivia is one of VERY few websites these days that supports both paying and non-paying members. My personal feeling is that, if they can, folks should "give back" at some point to keep systems that they like in place (whether that is by paying a fee, or simply by writing a few quizzes). This is not unlike "shareware". Sure it's great to get a nice program for "free" - but the software writers need groceries too : )
If I happen to live til I'm 90 and have to survive on catfood to get by, that might be a different story. In the meantime, I'll gladly pay for all these hours of enjoyment.
p.s. sorry for the long message - I'm obviously more over-tired (but can't sleep) than "normal" ~

Sue (shuehorn and 943), I don't know which are bigger, the holes in my pockets or the ones in my socks. If you are establishing a 'scholarship' type of an account and I submit an application for it, maybe I have an even bigger hole in my head? Why would I want anyone to know I can't darn a darn's worth nor sew a stitch in time's worth to save one, let alone nine, and maintain a false image of social security to my near valueless life. If you do consider such things, please pass on to the next applicant for I fear I may be beyond the help any trust fund could bring. All I ask is that you buy a pencil from me. You see, that hole in my head happens to be where one of my eyes should have been. I'll even sharpen the pencil for you. I've found that's one thing I'm good at. Know any place that may have an opening for a trained pencil sharpener? That would be more effective than giving me a free FT account any day. I think I can continue to locate spare threads to mend my socks at the laundermat and the spring clamps closing the holes off in my pockets don't really irritate the sores they've created on my thighs. The salve seems to work. No, I will survive. Carry on and good luck in your search. I'm sure there are many out there who could use the help more than I (proper English?) Back to suffering semi-privately, mehaul
