Learning the ropes...

Hi. Just trying to figure a few things out....

I see that some quizzes rank players and some rank the player and their team. Which quizzes can teams play?

Also, when you play as a team, can any player on that team answer quiz questions?

thanks.

Let's see if I can answer this before one of the nice Admins moves the thread to Feedback...

Teams are divided into three leagues according to how many members they have - Small, Medium, Large.

There are several games that get points for your team. The two games designed especially for teams are Team v Team (usually called TvT) and Team Heroes. In each case scores are averaged and it's the average which counts for the team as a whole - in Heroes this is a defined number (X) based on the team size and only the top X players count whereas in the TvT a minimum of six players must record a score and everyone's score, as long as it's above 300, counts in the average.

Then there's a group of other games which carry team points for the top 200 players scoring on any given day in each league. Those games are: Easy, Average (Something for Everyone), Who's the Smartest, New Questions, World, Daily, Pot of Gold, Who Am I?, and Mind Melt. As you will see, some of those games are open to everyone and some are for Gold Members only.

The scoring is described more fully here:

Hope this helps. smile

You play each game as an individual, but some get scored as a team. When I was the only active player on my team, I still played all games - but the team didn't do very well. grin

Team points are calculated at the end of each Funtrivia day. The games that can score points for your team are:

Daily games for all members: Team vs Team, Team Heroes, Daily Trivia Game, Mind Melt, New Question Game, Who Am I? (you must play in hard mode)

Hourly Games for all members: Mixed Trivia, Piece of Cake, Who's Smartest - your higfhest score for the day counts, so you can play as often as you wish to try and improve your score

Gold Member Daily Games: The World Quiz, Pot of Gold

And, yes, any player on the team has the ability to answer quiz questions smile

To see the way all this is tallied and presented, just go to any team's Info and Ranks page. In the middle of the page you will find a big green field which has listed the games/quizzes involved and how that particular team did on the prior day. There is also a competition which measures all the teams toward a Team of the Year Award. Those standings are compiled by WesleyCrusher and displayed once per month on this thread:

Hello to all. As a fairly new player, and first forum post, there is a question about players and teams that I have looked on the forum for an answer but can't find it. Didn't know if I should open a new topic or post here, so please feel free to correct me.
I've noticed there are a great many players who join a team but score "0" points. I can understand some who might sign into FT and decide it isn't for them but it seems many go to the bother of joining a team but still play no games or qiizzes.
Particularly curious that some have been members for an extended perion, several years in some cases, and are shown to have "been seen" the previous 24 hours and yet still show "0" points.
Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thank you.

There are many reasons for showing "0" points but with time on the site.
-Some come for the Forums
-Some play crosswords
-Some come and work on quizzes they are writing-
-Depending on where the 0 is you've noted, if for team points it may mean they did not participate in any of the games that score points for the team in the teams competitions
-Some have come in but haven't gotten a valid email reply assuring membership
-Some don't understand the mechanisms of playing the games off a keyboard and mouse and so actually score 0 points even though games were played
Some are internet connected in a pay by time used service and they run into a loading problem and back away from FT
-And many more I'm sure.

None have had their points taken away that I know of if that was one of your concerns.

Also let us not forget the hardworking volunteers that help Terry run the site, who have been here in some cases over a decade and have few points. Many come in to edit Quizzes and Questions, Act as moderators on chat boards and these Forums and to do other administrative functions which require them to log in but not to play any games.

This site has a wide range of activities on offer, and only some of them score points, as mehaul has pointed out. Why join a team if you don't plan to play team games and score points? People on a team may just enjoy discussions on the team chatboard, without actually playing any games or quizzes. As I recall, that was the reason I originally set up a team for my family members - a few of us enjoyed games and quizzes, but more just used it as a convenient chat site. Eventually I was left as the only active player (the rest of the family found that they were wasting time they couldn't afford, and decided that chatting here was too disruptive of their normal life), and joined a team that does compete in the games.

Thanks for the input, it's just something I noticed and was curious not being judgemental of these players. Would note however the players I noted do not chat on the team message board (I recently left a team I joined when I signed up) nor do they have points for crosswords. I thought perhaps they were some type of internal check system.
Thanks again for your thoughts.
