Hello fellow trivia players, I am experiencing a long lag time after completing a Word Wizard game and pushing the 'submit button', over 20 seconds or so. This has happened twice in a row today. It does not happen when playing any other game. Needless to say, it's wreaking havoc with my score . Has anyone else experienced this, or is my laptop seeking vengeance for some unknown reason?

Hey tatwood - I played Word Wizard several times today and haven't encountered any problem. Is it only this one game that causes you trouble or are you having issues with all timed games?

Hey there! It's only when I play Word Wizard! I'm afraid to try it again, because as you know, even if you get 15/15 you still lose points (even if you're still in the top ten). I hate the scoring for this game, and suspect that's why some excellent players have stopped playing.

If no one else is having this problem, it has to be my personal set-up. Maybe my mouse has turned into a rat

I know that feeling - when you have a rating that far up, things just don't improve any more unless your play is perfect all across (my last days of GC16 were just the same, those 12s and 13s in my weaker categories being utter poison when you're 1900+).

If anyone else encounters the problem, please make a quick reply - that way we'll know if it needs looking at.

Although I'm not in your exalted position Tatwood, it does happen to me on occasion. I tend then to log off the internet, clear out temporary internet files and other rubbish, then log on to the internet again. Generally seems to solve it (at least until next time it happens)

Thanks to both of you. Wesley, I played my first GC this last game and found it extremely difficult - good for you for doing so well. And surdoux, thanks, I'll try cleaning up my laptop and see if that helps. I still don't trust this wireless mouse yet - it does weird things when I'm typing, like jumping around in the text. Probably can't blame it though; and besides, it's so cute!

A jumping mouse isn't ideal, but there is normally a reason (and a cure). Have a look here for a few possible reasons.

OK, I cleaned up my laptop with CCleaner and ran the anti-malware thingy. Then I went to start -> control -> mouse and messed around with the settings (who knew? - surdoux and Dave Taylor). Just played a Word Wizard game and it worked. Now I'll try to earn back the 8 points I lost.

No more gnashing of teeth for a while, hopefully!
