In two weeks time, yet another brand of football starts in Australia. Australian Rules (AFL) is only played here, and in some places in Ireland.  Rules- One point a correct pick, nothing for a loss. - A bonus point for picking a perfect round. - Default if you forget to pick, wooden spoon score. - Tiebreaker will be HoF v Spoons. Largest margin wins, or if the margin is equal, total HoF count wins. - Deadline will be the start of the first game each weekend- usually a Friday night, with the occasional Thursday. - Late starters will start on the Wooden Spoon score. First game kicks off on Saturday, March 24. Get your names down now and join in the fun!

How about a point for tipping teams that have the colour red on their jersey? OK, I will chuck in a bonus point for perfect scores, but nothing else! NRL rules will be adjusted, too.

Welcome to the AFL Tipping comp for 2012. We have a mammoth TWENTY starters this year, and welcome first-timers har28low, MikeMaster99 and Daaanieeel, plus all the usual suspects.
First out of the blocks is chogobad who only missed a perfect score by going the wrong way in the very tight Power v Saints game. He was only one of two to pick the premiers, Geelong, going down to Fremantle- the other was wwe84.
There are six players in equal second, and a big group just one point behind them. Looks like we are off to a great year!
If anyone else wants to join up, simply post your tips in the weekly rounds.

A very successful week, collectively- a huge total of 152 correct picks from 180 which equates to over 84%. Not too shabby for only the second week of the season.
The first perfect score bonus goes to George95 who now has a share of the lead with chogobad.
wwe84 picked up his second spoon, but hopefully his fortunes will change soon.

Firstly, welcome to Tizzabelle, who has decided to give us all a bit of a start.
Three of the top four stayed where they were last week, but no-one else did. There were some rather startling movements with har28low heading the list. He went for a couple of roughies that did not come off, scored a spoon and dropped from 5th to 18th!
There were HoF awards galore- exactly a third of tipsters scored 8/9, with everyone except wwe84 failing on the Kangaroos surprise win over Geelong.

Another plethora of HoF awards, with eight players picking 7/9. Two upset results ensured that there were no perfect scores.
Our only spooner was Daaanieeel who could only manage 3/9.
There were only three scores over 100, which is unusual, and the West Coast v Hawthorn games was goalless for the entire first quarter, and that has not happened since 1992. The new kid on the block, GWS Giants, travelled to South Australia and gave Adelaide a big scare- their first ever win cannot be too far away.

If Sydney had scored one more goal, you would not have been able to move in this thread for Bonus points! As it was, HoF awards are everywhere- out of 17 tipsters, nine players picked 8/9 and totally stuffed up the column alignment.
Four people scored 6/9, usually a reasonably good score, but this week was only enough to score a spoon. Only four players did not receive a gong of any sort.

This comp is crazy! Last week 6/9 was only good enough for a spoon- this week only one player scored more- illiniman14 managed to get an amazing 7/9 out of some rather surprising results.
chogobad has a new dance partner at the top of the ladder, as he is joined by paper_aero. Erstwhile co-leader George95 was one of a quartet of spooners and dropped to third. Other to feel the wrath of cutlery were gtho4, MikeMaster99 and Howie72.

We had 17 active tipsters this weekend, and more than half of the have a nice HoF award to crow about. Our two leaders, chogobad and paper_aero both scored well and have opened up a 2-point gap.
ASA was the sole spooner, with 5/8.
In the footy itself, the clash of the heavyweights saw Collingwood sneak home over the Cats. Port Adelaide scored their second win with a close win over the Roos and Sydney gave Melbourne a decent hiding. Carlton lost to Adelaide (badly) and questions will be asked at Princes Park. West Coast beat the Saints over in Perth and Brisbane slaughtered the new boys, GWS. |
