This is something that is low on the totem pole as far as things to be done, but just a random thought. The "Lucky Ducky" badge is a random award given to one player who visits the site every day. When the badge was begun a little over five years ago, there were significantly less FT members then there are today. Is it possible to increase the number of Lucky Duck badges awarded on a daily basis in proportion to the number of members on the site? If there were 100,000 members in 2006 for example and now there are 500,000 obviously the chance to end up with the badge is significantly decreased. An increase would more realistically reflect the same chance to win the badge now as when it first began. While I know that this badge is probably the only badge that I can think of on the site that is pure luck, it would be nice to know that there is a chance to actually get it.

There is a chance - it flew into my profile just the other day!

There may be a case for increasing the number or frequency of badge awards, but not solely because of increased membership. The actual number of visitors each day is the relevant figure, along with taking into consideration that every day someone retires from the pool of prospective winners.

Anyway, luck is luck - without everyone believing that this could be their lucky day, lotteries would not be the money spinners that they are for governments and private corporations around the world.

The number of daily visitors has remained constant or even slightly declined over the last three years, so the chances are not worse than they were in the past.

The only change I would personally make to the duck is to not let it be won on the day of joining (or in the very few first days) - out of the sixty chances in Feb and Mar, four were given to members who never returned and two more to members who stayed only two or three days - 10% of the ducks wasted on candidates who never saw them.

If ducks could be restricted to those members whose log in name begins with 'S' and ends in 'urdoux' I would be extremely grateful.

I always thought that it made no difference if someone has already won the duck, they are still in the pool (no pun intended) of possible winners each day. This was from a reply here somewhere to someone, ages ago, who asked why a duck wasn't awarded on a particular couple of days they'd noticed. IT was said that the duck must have been awarded to someone who already had it, resulting in no duck on those days. So the pool does get bigger every time someone joins iirc.

The pool gets bigger, but only for a day.

If there are 5000 members who log on/are active each day, it doesn't matter if there are 5000 total members are 5 million total members.

I like Wesley's idea - I'd maybe make it a point/level thing. You could even move it to level bonus challenges, although you might need to create a new sub-heading based on the level requirement.

As someone who has had the Duck for a few years now, I can say with some authority that what this site needs is more hoisin sauce!

I agree with making it open only to people who have been here for a little while, but I don't think prior winners should be removed from the pool. It is about Luck, and when many more buy tickets to the lottery, the prize is worth more, but it is harder to achieve. I would hate to win a "devalued" duck! Whenever it comes my way, I want it to be the one that has been hard to get. smile

I can understand suggestions to make certain badges a bit more accessible, but when this badge is complete luck and you can't do a thing either way to receive it, it seems pointless to me to change anything about it (except perhaps the suggestion to limit it to those who have been on site for a certain period of time). Just ignore it and then if it appears, you'll have a shiny new extra badge! The coveted Perfect Score flew into my profile one day and it's a nice thing, but both badges are just something to wait for. smile

Oh dear, if your duck has been marinating for a few years, I don't think hoisin will help. An (appropriately solemn) interment might be in order though smile

I wish I'd thought of that, Jakeroo! It would certainly seem lame to me to get the duck that way. wink

The Duck isn't the only random daily present from the site. The other day I received the Perfection badge, given randomly each day to someone who scored perfectly in a game the previous day. The badge is a trophy cup just large enough for a duck to marinate in. Now that I have the pot to cook it in, where's my muscovy?

It's called Perfect Score and there are many ways get it:

a) Score 100% in as many quizzes as possible in one day
b) Score 100% in at least one quiz per day
c) Wait for it to appear without trying
d) Get it randomly without even knowing it exists

I tried method B, but when I finally clenched the Perfect Score I thought it was method D.

I am installing a new Gazing Ball (plain glass, couldn't afford the crystal version) and my installation instructions say I need to annoint it with something that will imbue it with the sense of easiness and thus insure success in the prediction realm. I was thinking of using 'water off a duck's back' for the job. Would any of you duck owners care to collect some for me? I have some extra funds from going glass rather than crystal.

TY,vm MarchHare007. I hope the shipment gets through quarantine soon. When it does - check in the mail. Hmmm, will the water still spill counter-clockwise when I pour it on the glass globe here in the right, top side of the Earth? Or spill clockwise on the top and CC on the bottom of it? If it goes CC, does that mean the ball will only tell me accurately which words won't win (Satguru's problem)? In any case, thanks for the effort. I hope the duck enjoyed it.

Discovered a new phobia today - Anatidaephobia - which is apparently the fear of being watched by a duck. Symptoms include, a dry mouth, shortness of breath, muscle tension, trembling, anxiety and feeling out of control. OMG! I've got it!

Does anybody have The Lucky Duck and The Perfect Score ? I am just wondering because i've had Herr Duck for awhile and he tells me that The Perfect Score trophy is his,(won it in a quacking contest),and he's really anxious to be reunited with it.
I'm a sentimental sort and would like to see the two reunited, so if there is anybody who could see fit to reunite them, purely for unselfish reasons of course, it would be appreciated.
Do you know how annoying it is to hear a duck quack, in German no less, day after day?

George, of course that can be arranged. Let me quickly grab that duck from your profile and put it back to where we store the Perfect Score trophy smile

I got Perfect Score, and that's sort of random. I'm satisfied. If I get the Lucky Duck I'll be happy, but I don't mind that I don't have it. That's the fun of it. Sometimes you just get lucky!
