Super RugbyThis year's comp for 5 months over 18 rounds from Friday 24th February through to Friday 13th July (it starts the week after the UEFA Champions League recommences, after the mid-winter break on Tuesday 14th February). There's a three-week break this year in June for internationals (last year's comp was over 4 months) The rules are simple: points
default
draws
upsets
perfect picks
draw bonus
dead-heats
deadline | one point for each correct pick.
if you forget to pick, the away teams are all yours; but if the wooden
spoon score is more, it's the spoon score.
for those brave souls amongst us, you can pick a draw (good luck).
if you pick a game solo, you score a bonus point (or one of two tipsters).
of 7/7 scores a bonus point; ditto for 6/6 when there's a bye.
no-one picks a draw, bonus point for the minority who picked the upset
win (same as FLC comp).
weekly wins vs. wooden spoon differential determine podium finishes; then
number of weekly wins if differential is the same and then, if countback is
identical, bonus pts will be used.
is always Thursday midnight FT time, with a period of grace through to
kick-off in the first game which is, sometimes, just 35 minutes later. If
you lodge your picks late you score zero for any game that's started. |
This is the 11th edition of the Super XV Rugby Union tipping comp. Last season's comp was won by N-Bomb (followed by Eraserhead and illiniman14); and the 2010 comp by Eraserhead (followed by paper_aero and srini701). All trivia tipping comp junkies, and anyone else who follows the game they play in heaven, please sign in!

Welcome to the Super XV Rugby 2012 tipping Comp! We have 14 people on the starting grid, with just 1 newcomer amongst us (wwe84)...Eraserhead and RxBigDawg are the absentees from last year's comp...
Defending Champions Queensland Reds are off to a winning start and so are strong favorites Canterbury Crusaders, Nth Transvaal Bulls and Western Province Stormers. The Gauteng Lions won the battle of the prospective "drops" against the Orange Cheetahs.
Our debutant here wwe84 got off to a dream start, picking 6/6 and on course for a bonus point for perfect picks before tripping on the Lions-Cheetahs game. He however shares the lead at the moment along with BxBarracuda and Sypher.
At the other end, MrFox lodged his tips well after the first game started (and so took a zero for the first match), and fared none too well with the rest, and takes home the first spoon of the season!
No bonus points for anyone this round, but this is just the start of a lonnngggg season of the "game they play in heaven" (that's gtho4's quote, not mine  )

The second week of the 2012 Super XV rugby saw plenty of action and some huge scores....Ozzz2002 can breathe a little easy now 
The rampant Bulls hammered the Cheetahs 51-19, defending Champions Queensland Reds held off Western Australia Force while the Stormers and Highlanders also made it a 2-0 start. The Natal Sharks and Auckland Blues suffered a second straight loss as did the Force and Cheetahs....
Our debutant here wwe84 is continuing his roll and snagged the first bonus point of the season along with Davjack, picking the Chiefs' win over Blues! His second straight HoF sees him pulling 3 ahead of a clutch of players on 10.
All of us picked 2 games this round and George95's hopes of the Rebels upsetting the Waratahas did not come off, landing him his first spoon for the season.
Before I forget....we welcome back Eraserhead this round ....but MrFox went missing

Queensland Reds and Otago Highlanders made it 3 out of 3, with the Reds winning a low-scoring match against the Rebels and the Highlanders squeezing out the Waratahs by a single point. Auckland Blues won their first match of the season, winning on the home ground of the previously unbeaten Bulls. The Chiefs won their second match in a row against one of the pre-season favourites, Canterbury Crusaders who lost their second match in a row!
Out here Davjack hit everybody for a six, picking the whole lot, the first one to do so this season....well done, Sir! You sure got the better of Sypher there Davjack picked up a sole pick bonus and another for perfect picks to shoot into joint lead with wwe84.
gtho4 picked his first spoon for the season along with MrFox, whose tips were all over the place after missing last week

Otago Highlanders continues to remain unbeaten, winning a tight match against Wellington Hurricanes. Western Stormers are keeping pace with them winning their 3rd match in a row. Defending Champions Queensland Reds lost their first match of the season, going down to Natal Sharks, while Western Force shocked the Waratahs and the Cheetahs came from behind to beat the Rebels to notch their first win of the season.
Davjack went from hero to zero in one round! After a perfect round last week, he failed to pick a single game this week, again becoming the first person to score a golden duck this season! Interesting guy
Sypher was the best of the rest of us, picking 5 right for his second HoF of the season to move into second position behind wwe84.

Defending champs Queensland Reds got the hiding of their lives at hands of the Bulls, Melbourne Rebels broke their losing streak while the Otago Highlanders lost, leaving the Stormers the only unbeaten team in the league this year....
Two matches were decided by a single point and this affected the standings a great deal ... But laughing away this round are wwe84, Howie72 and George95, all of whom picked the card and snagged a bonus point each for perfect picks...wwe84 extends his lead at the top of the ladder to 3 points again!
Eraserhead picks his first spoon for the season with 3 right picks (which was more than the default of 2 away), the score that Davjack also got for vanishing this week (probably to reflect on his wild swing the last 2 weeks )

The Sharks won in Canberra for the first time since 1998, the Cheetahs won for the first time ever in New Zealand, while defending champions Reds lost 3 games in a row for the first time since 2009! Very interesting week in the Super XV rugby that
illiniman14 picked up a bonus point, predicting the Reds to lose, and flew up the table to joint 4th position. He also shared the HoF this week with srini701, paper_aero, N-Bomb (first HoF this season for all of them) and Howie72 (second HoF).
MrFox picked up his 3rd spoon for the season with just a solitary pick (I might have given him a "gimme" point for the first game this week for a late tip, but he decided to go solo and so lost that chance )

The Waikato Chiefs won away against the Cheetahs and moved to the top of the table as the previously unbeaten Stormers lost (away to Crusaders)

The Waikato Chiefs continue to stay on top of the table with a very close away win over another strong outfit, Natal Sharks. The Stormers bounced back from last week's defeat by beating the defending champs Queensland Reds.
N-Bomb is on fire here. He picks up a second successive perfect round and cuts the lead at the top to 3 points (from 5 last week). Joining him in having a perfect round are Sypher and gtho4
At the other end MrFox picks his 4th successive spoon and his 6th spoon in 9 rounds! He seems pretty well-trenched at the basement and looks set to continue there for some more time!

The Stormers and Waikato Chiefs both are continuing on their merry ways in the league. Otago Highlanders is keeping pace with the leaders, while the Auckland Blues are going through a horror season, losing this week at home to Queensland Reds.
It was a good week to go default as 5 away teams won this round. illiniman14, Davjack and MrFox must be pretty pleased they either forgot to tip or stayed away on purpose
Of those who tipped, paper_aero had a perfect round and vaulted himself up the ladder even as the top 4 put a little distance between themselves and the rest...5 players bagged a spoon each this week with 4 out of 6...normally a mid table score, but not this round!
