There's a great line from Blazing Saddles that addresses this.

I've had similar interests all my life- since digital cameras the photography has taken over as so many opportunities to find and places to go. Before that I painted often during the bad winter weather, and now also write articles hoping for publication, till then they went in professional journals read by a handful of people (more probably got it but doubt that many read many articles) until I finally got one in a magazine. Then inevitably they all lead back to the computer, as I research most online nowadays and upload and map the photos when I get home for far longer than I spent taking them, but that's actually the best bit for me. And people may have seen my name on the forums, chats and quiz tables from time to time as well...

Well I love walking, and get in between 50 and 70 km a week. That takes up a good bit of my spare time.

Otherwise I love to read (just find it hard to keep a supply of books coming into the house). I'm a real homey person so I enjoy pottering around the house and garden, surfing the 'net, and playing around at various crafty things: sewing, knitting, scrapbooking and cardmaking ...

But in reality, I don't have all that much spare time, unless I seriously reduce my sleep quota (already pretty minimal).

What exactly is this spare time of which you speak? Outside of working, commuting, editing and entertaining three kids, I would like to spend time watching films, playing football and writing quizzes, among many other activities. One day I will.

I like crafts like cardmaking, scrapbooking and stamping .. any papercrafts really.

I like to exercise nowadays too and I like cooking too.

I try to limit the time on the computer but spend enough on there too I guess!

Two nights a week, I walk at a mall in the DFW area to exercise, and now I have some company join me, too, which makes it better. Most of the rest of the time, I am either on the computer or watching TV.

Cormudgeon that I am, I lurk in the bushes on my bicycle until the kids get out of school. Then I ride down the sidewalk yelling, "Get out of the way you brats!". My heart soars when I look in my rearview mirror and see a cloud of homework papers scudding in my wake. I do have a brighter pasttime that I don't get to practice too often. The nearby retirement community hosts a 'Musical Chairs' competition every octogenarian's birthday party. I go and practice my Ice Hockey hip checking skills at those.

And I like to invent characters, too.
