The "Fun Facts" badge info at the Challenges Page says: ============================================= "This unique badge is awarded to any player who posts one INTERESTING fun fact (not yet posted by any other player) in the provided thread on EACH of any 72 of the 260 FunTrivia local message boards for the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and other parts of the world. Please take your time and share something interesting about each of these places!"============================================ I've posted one fact at the topic called "FUN FACTS ABOUT NEW YORK" at: http://www.funtrivia.com/minigame/localb...id=USA_NEW-YORKHow can I find the other 72 local message boards among the other 260? I understand that to earn the Fun Facts Badge, I need to post one fact at EACH of the 72 boards. So I need to be able to find those 72 boards. Thank you for any guidance you can give me. ---Seadancer

Seadancer, look on the top of the FT home page screen. Wave your mouse over "Me", and move down to "My Region". Some options will come up.. click on "The World" and all the regions and countries will appear.

There are many more than 72 on that page. ---Sea

Any 72 from the list of 260 will work. Just make sure however you post in the correct thread: Only the "Fun facts about..." thread that was started by Terry counts for the badge. If a board doesn't have such a thread (there were a handful a while ago - don't know if it's been fixed) it can't be used. I know 72 will work, but how do I pick them out from the 260? It's time-consuming to have to search through all of them. ---Sea

Any 72 will work, apart from a few, but there aren't very many board without Fun Fact threads.
Maybe the information should be rephrased:
Awarded to any players who posts 72 interesting facts on any of the 260 FunTrivia local message boards (only one per thread) for the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and other parts of the world.

I would amend that to read: Awarded to any players who posts 72 interesting facts on any of the 260 valid FunTrivia local message boards (only one per thread) for the US, Canada, Australia, UK, and other parts of the world.seadancer, it is easy to find the correct thread because it is one that starts with the phrase "Fun facts about..." and it was started by Terry Ford. None of the other threads on these 260 local message boards count toward the badge. Please be sure to read through the whole list of facts and do not repeat info already posted. WQe did a clean-up of the threads a little over a year ago, and it was a nightmare! Thanks, and good luck with the badge. Sue

It's time-consuming to have to search through all of them. ---Sea It is indeed time consuming. There are plenty of boards from which to choose, so pick any one and find the thread from Terry. If you can't see it, go to another country. Open the thread for this badge, and read the entries that are already there - yours has to be new. Make your entry and move on to the next country. I strongly recommend keeping a list of the countries where you have made posts, or you will come back later on to add some more countries and have to waste time checking to see if you've already done that one. Do not expect to finish it quickly - this is a badge to be completed over time, not in an afternoon. edited to fix typo

It's your choice as long as they do have the necessary thread (which should be in the first few). However you will need to read through the thread to see you won't duplicate a fact. As some others already said - it's not an easy or fast badge.

I believe some few lost the badge a year ago exactly because they duplicated facts. You might want to be keeping a documented copy of which countries you've posted to. You may know a total of posts but you need to know which you've already posted to. Some before mentioned that the location changes color in the overall list if you've gone to it. That can be unreliable when you cannot remember whether it was 5 or seven you visited and didn't come up with a fact for. I think it is a bad fact if it has been one of several from a previously posted list of facts from one person ( Billycarl lists facts D, E, F, G and H. you cannot use fact F as a new one. The request for only one fact per poster doesn't make the third one in the list fair game to repeat. There are also some types of facts which are inelligible such as voting ages, phone codes, saying that such and such has a city named so and so, etc., which aren't real facts but things you find in a telephone book. The highest point may be a fact but it is only fun if it is the steeple of the brothel in godsland. Hey, before putting in a questionable fact and later having it dismissed, why not ask Sue943 or some editor or moderator if it would be a good one? (I say Sue because she headed the clean-up last time. Some other admin might be in charge now) Of the ten or so locations I went over last year, from a third to a half were bad entries! It is a lot of work to go through for the badge so why not qualify the entry ahead of time. Possibly a list of ten facts submitted for approval seven times and then transcribe them into the threads? It is not a requirement but I think it would save work later and also save having some disqualified. Another place the threads show up is in the Global Challenge, My Stats, My Neighborhood. If you haven't looked there, go ahead and check out New York, You'll see umpteen threads but only that one that's good for the badge. Seeing the one for your own back yard will help you become better at spotting them in other locations. I think some thought they had to go to a location and do the thread start themselves. Tell us about Ausable Chasm or Howe Caverns, two of America's most wonderful, little known, natural phenomena.

mehaul, I don't think Sue wants to get a bunch of questions on whether a particular fact is acceptable or not. She'd have to read through the whole thread to pass judgement. It would be better to read carefully through each thread, decide whether you have anything else to add, and post if so. We should all be responsible for researching our clues and only posting things that add value.

I kind of intended that angle to apply more to the phone code type facts and whether that type would be considered viable or not, and not meaning a review of a whole thread to find duplicates (some of those before were toss-ups about duplication due to some fine rewording of what the fact was). I mentioned that it might not even be Sue now. Only a message to her by a badge seeker would answer whether she or someone else is handling it now. I think such reviews, much like single questions, would improve the quality of the postings and halt the bad and duplicate entries. But that has all been discussed before and badge seekers should review that thread if it's still around. I think it was tossed though, leading to us repeating the debate.
Edit: I think some editor will eventually review the entries which qualified a badge allocation, so why not do it in small chunks up front rather than all of it as a mountain later on? It will get reviewed one way or the other. Even if we members go in and see a duplicate or unfun fact now, what recourse do we have? Send a Thread CN to ... who? If we post in the thread, it'll mess the thread up and not change anything.

I agree that reading the old thread on what constitutes a good fact is the best place for people to go. Plus, reading the fun fact boards themselves gives you a good idea of what is considered interesting, at least to some.
The same as before, if you see chronic duplicates by a user or facts that really don't count as acceptable (e.g., there used to be a spate of entries stating "North Carolina is smaller than Texas" where only the state name changed), then we should notify an Admin, which could be Sue, and she would point out if anything has changed in terms of reporting these things. We are not meant to point out every fact with which we disagree, only if we see multiple repeat posts by a single user or multiple posts that are unacceptable by a user are we to raise a flag.

Do remember we need *facts*. When I assisted the great clean-up, I came across some posts that were more of an opinion than a fact, so I asked Sue to delete those.

My scratch paper is still the backside of some of the hardcopy printouts I made of the threads!

We cannot edit our own posts though, can we? I don't see how a note to the player will help... He won't be able to do anything about it.

A correction note could be posted. Presumably Sue or another administrator will eventually be able to delete the incorrect posting.

Are the facts that you post to these boards there permanently or do you need to do all 72 within some (long) time frame? I presume they remain but this badge is going to take me a long time! There is no timeframe on this badge. I got the badge fairly early on so it was a lot easier than it is now, and it still took a few weeks. Have fun!

In case the fact escaped into the wild and now that no member can be found associated with it, could you tell us what the wrong thing was? Someone that read it two weeks ago doesn't go back and see it's no longer there. They will continue to possibly believe it to be true. Often 'facts' posted on those threads find their way to becoming questions in a quiz. It would serve us well to know the wrong thing now that no one should be harmed by publicizing it. Plus, all the skulldugery has piqued my curiosity.
