I've been thinking about it for a while and I don't think I've posted about it before but I was just wondering what everyone would think about a 'fastest of the fast' badge for the overall winner in the easier game each hour?

As far as I can tell we have equivalent badges in both the hard game (smartest of the smart) and the average game (I think it's called 'Hourly mixed winner') and so surely it makes sense to complete the set? Please let me know what you think and if someone has raised this point before smile Thanks!

I would assume that if this was created then it would count as one of the badges for the triathlon (meaning it would count towards having enough badges to get into the veterans division).

I don't see a problem with adding a badge for the top score overall in Piece of Cake, although of course I would never get it!

I used to be able to get 10 in 12 or 13 seconds, even managed 11 once. Now I cannot imagine ever getting the badge... Too many too players every hour.

Not saying I wouldn't do my darnedest to get it. I'd welcome such a challenging badge. Of course, I only have phone and iPad to play, which slows me down considerably. :-(

I like this idea. It does make sense to complete the set.

I was surprised by that score... It didn't win. One of the power players beat me.

Didn't I already win that badge by being the fastest? Okay, so it was eons ago but why do we keep having to win badges we won already?

The Speed Demon badge is the highest scoring player in each division. I think this topic is asking for a badge that is awarded to the highest scoring player across all divisions, much like the "Smartest of the Smart" is awarded to the highest score across all divisions.

I'm okay with it. I even like the name. It's prefect.

That was the plan yes, I just think it would add a nice symmetry to the three main hourly games.

Flopsy, that's what we get for being old timers. We have done so much... Sometimes we just have to do it again! Which makes it more fun, in my opinion. :-)

When I got the badge I had to beat everyone, there were no divisions.

Salami is right, I've grown old in the service of trivia. smile

I think this one would definitely be nice in the interest of symmetry. I'm not usually an advocate of any more ultra-speed badges since they are out of reach for most players, but this one clearly makes sense especially considering that we now have the Triathlon to link the games.

Me too Flopsy! Why I remember when it was all fields around here... laugh and there were no divisions, we beat everyone or we got nowt! I'll certainly never win the Easy Game again, I know that. Not unless I play and then there's a massive server collapse which is fixed just in time to let me be the only person in the world scoring that hour laugh (then I might stand a chance at the Triathlon Badge too)

I was against this idea when I first read the proposal, but couldn't really articulate why. Now, having thought about it, I think I've figured out what bothers me about this potential badge -- there's really not a knowledge component to scoring well in POC. It's all about memorization and quick clicking. While this is certainly a skill, what component of this skill is trivia-related? In the Mixed Game, there is a constant influx of new questions, so knowledge can theoretically trump speed. In the hard game, while there is some memorization and speed involved, there seems to be a larger database for the hard questions. Again, knowledge can be a compensating factor for relative slowness. To me, a badge rewarding nothing but pure speed isn't rewarding skill at trivia, which I strongly believe should be a component of a badge on this site. "Speed Demon" is a little different, as the majority of players will win this badge while still learning the database. I just don't see the difference between a badge for the person who can click through ten questions with memorized answers in the fastest time and a badge for someone who can type ten words the quickest, for instance. This isn't FunTyping, it's FunTrivia.

this is where I feel really disadvantaged that is with regard to any speed related badges The computer I am on just will not pick them up - maybe I might jag one when I get my computer back from the store but otherwise I will just have to plod-it and leave the speed-demon and other fasties to the ones with better connections oh well such is life and yeh I have completely dodged the gist of the last post sorry about that ta ta Underscored

We have both speed games and knowledge games on this site. To say you don't want badges added to the easy game because it is a speed badge, to me says you are a knowledge game player. That's fine, but instead of saying no to new badges, why not say yes and let those who want to get it do so. It is said time and time again, there is something for everyone on here. If this badge isn't your style, don't try to win it.

But Flopsy, also remember... When we won the badge so long ago, 10 correct in 25 seconds would almost always win. Now it would take about 10-15 seconds to win this one. So perhaps you have not won this badge before after all... ;-P

Abechstein, I also fail to see how you think fastest of the fast is any different that smartest if the smart. More than likely, to win that badge, you had to beat tons of fast players who can get 10 in 30 seconds because of memorization. Yet, you won the badge... So surely you aren't completely against winning badges related to speed as well as knowledge?

Memorization of questions is unavoidable. That is something that is used in every single game on this site; it is not confined to the easy game, the easy game simply has simpler questions, so they are a bit easier to memorize. But to say nay to this badge for the memorization and speed aspect? I don't think that is a good enough reason... Or there wouldn't be many badges on the site now.

I'm not exactly a new player myself, and won the speed demon badge when you had to beat everyone as well. However the site has clearly developed and the presence of the two analagous badges in the other main hourly games surely suggests that this should exist as well?

abechstein, although you might not consider this speed clicking to be true knowledge, I think it's very difficult to draw a line between when one can answer a question because you 'know' and when you can just answer it instinctively because you've seen the question many times before. Personally when I see illiniman scoring under 9 seconds I'm as impressed (if not more so) than when I see someone get under 20 seconds in the hard game. However this is obviously just my opinion (and perhaps I'm slightly biased because the easy game is my favourite :P) but I know others do feel the same way. Also, I think that there are badges on the site that would require less of a trivia aspect than the badge I'm proposing. Not that I mind, I quite like the variety smile

I think this game has enough rewards as is. There are no plans on adding anything to it.

Oops -- took too long, and once I posted my multi-paragraph response, I saw Terry had already posted. So, sorry for this placeholder -- no point in my original reply, given Terry's.

It's one badge. Are folks seriously going to begrudge one more badge for P of C just because they may not be able to win it? There are certain badges on FT I'll never win, but I have no problem with the badges being there. Also, P of C, like FMI, only has 3 badges as opposed to other hourlies which have 4 or more. I never understood why there was a badge for being overall #1 for a set in the other two games of the Triathlon, but not P of C.

I'm never going to win a speed badge. I'm also never going to win Endurance. I honestly don't care that I won't. But I DO think it's really nice that folks are given the opportunity to do so : )
