Today the topic for the Heroes Game was "1980s Music".

How about some questions about "1940s" Music"?

The retired people like myself would LOVE that! smile

People like myself (78 years old) don't recognize the newer music.

The Heroes game is randomly generated every day. People like myself (who are less than half that age) don't always recognize older music. wink

I think that there ARE questions about 1940s music. However, the topic was 1980s music, so you will only get questions about music from the '80s. The '40s' music's turn may come some other time.

Come now, you've never heard Take on Me (still an awesome video 25+ years later) or Hit Me with Your Best Shot?

edit to add: 14/15 in that game today. Who says I don't like 80's music? wink

Nobody gave away answers or questions though,

Wait, are you saying a-ha because you knew I'd know one, or is that saying that A-Ha sang the first song? :-P

I thought I'd seen it all... Then I watched the Take On Me video. Half comic book, and what's with the pipe wrenches?

What a bizarre song.

Back in the day, that video was way ahead of its time. Now we are way ahead of its time, it looks very dated smile

The Team Heroes categories vary - some you'll like and others you won't. There are quizzes on 1930s and 1940s music, though. You need to look under 'music mixture' then 'music by year'.

And you can also try the "Great American Songbook" category - most of the music there is from the golden age and there are some really good quizzes on some great music tucked away in that sub-category.

Some names I've encountered here from the music field showing that a variety of sources from way back when gets asked about:
Tommy Dorsey
Benny Goodman
Cole Porter
Irving Berlin
Clint Eastwood
Cab Calloway
Fats Wallah
Louis Armstrong
Merv Griffin
Billie Holiday
Gilbert and Sullivan
Stephen Foster
Francis Scott Key
Tex Ritter
Gene Autry
Gene Kelly
Bing Crosby
Frank Sinatra
The Andrews Sisters
Judy Garland
George M Cohan
Al Jolson
Howard Keel
Jeanette MacDonald
Nelson Eddy
Bob Crosby and the "Bob-Cats"
Well maybe no one's asked about the "Bob-Cats"

Those are good suggestions. Thanks.
And I liked Mehaul's list too!
I do hope some questions about 1940s music will also show up in two main team games some day.

Seadancer, please stop using bold for an entire comment - it should be used only for emphasis. It's a bit like using all capital letters, it makes me think you're shouting.

And frankly, if 1940s music shows up in Heroes, I shall avoid it like the plague. It was played through my childhood in the 50s and I've hated big band music ever since.

There seem to be only 4 quizzes in 1940's Music, so that would not make a very large question pool to draw from.

Any time I watch that video now, it rewinds me back to 1985 when the song came out.

So we may have to write more music quizzes in this subcategory.

I'm not that into such novelties. The music from my youth is the fifties - 1850's, that is. JK.

Some more:
Rogers and Hart
Rogers and Hammerstein
Guy Lombardo
Jackie Gleason
Steve Allen
Mitch Miller
Count Basie
Lawrence Welk
Roy Rogers
Jerry Murad's Harmonicats
The last again, might not exist in FT.

I'm a singer, so I might be a bit biased, but I love standards from the 20s through the 50s. Even though most of my childhood was in the 60s, I tend to gravitate to much of the older music. Since there appear to few quizzes on music from the first half of the 20th century, maybe I should think about writing one.

Here are a couple of places to look for quizzes on this type of music:

Lyrics Mixture -> Lyrics by Decade -> Pre Rock 1920s - 1950s
Lyrics Mixture -> Lyrics by Decade -> 1950s
Other Music -> Standards - Great American Songbook
Other Music -> Jazz
Music Mixture -> Music by Year -> 1930s and Before
Music Mixture -> Music by Year -> 1940s
Music Mixture -> Music by Year -> 1950s

and, as Mehaul has shown, we have subcategories for many individual artists. Roughly 150 quizzes or so.
