A pair of metal detector enthusiasts have found a hoard of iron age coins numbering 30,000 to 50,000 and said to be worth about £10m. They date from 50BC. The area is under guard as archaeologists would learn more with the coins in situ.

It has taken the pair about 30 years to find them after hearing rumours of silver coins being found nearby. As they are treasure trove the appropriate authorities have been informed.

I was watching that on the news earlier. It's going to take forever to gently chip all those coins out of that muck they're cemented into, as well as the patience of a saint.

It is the 8th decent sized find of coins in Jersey, and the largest.

Although they are keeping the location secret it won't be long before it becomes public knowledge, the island is too small to keep it secret for long.
