McHale's boat has sunk. Sadly, EB passed away today.

I read his autobiography and have read a lot about him and he was a genuine kind man.

I really liked his character "Cabbie" in the movie Escape From New York also.

"Marty" was his best work, IMO, though he was quite something in "The Emperor of the North Pole". A way better actor than many would give him credit for.

His desire to kill the Emperor was truly believable. "The Emperor of the North" (as it is also known) is one of my favorite movies. It is the tale of a train hopping hobo (Lee Marvin) and the efforts by the train security agent (EB) to not just get him off his train, but to end the hobo's life and legend. LM and EB did their own moving train fight stunts, too.

I remember seeing Borgnine in "Poseidon Adventure" back in 1972; I think that was the only time I saw him on the big screen. The man really made a lot of movies, didn't he? He also starred in the "Airwolf" TV series, played Vince Lombardi in a TV-movie, co-starred with Joan Crawford ("Johnny Guitar"), Lee Marvin ("Dirty Dozen"), and Bette Davis ("Bunny O'Hare") among others, and even voiced a character on the "Spongebob Squarepants" cartoon series!

He was also in a great movie with Spencer Tracy called "Bad day at Black Rock."

He appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Lano about 5 years ago and claimed his longevity was due to self-gratification. What a sense of humor!
