Welcome to the 2012 NFL season tipping comp! Trash talking is allowed, but remember to keep it within the FT rules. We have 25 runners this year, a mere four off the record 29, and two more than last year. If I can handle 29 in a comp, I can certainly handle 25. Bring on any more takers and let's see if we can get to 30! The all-time record in any FT comp is 32 participants. No shows from last year are rxbigdawg and triviapaul. Welcome to the new and MIA tippers this year, szabs, MikeMaster99, chogobad, wwe84, and doomed (the MIA one). We don't bite around here, but we do have a great time!
PaulE takes the first weekly win of the year, and does it in style as he picked 13 to gain a bonus point, then was one of three to pick the Saints to lose in the Superdome (szabs and Dizart were the other two). LeoDaVinci and KrivoyRog also picked up bonuses for picking the Niners to win at Lambeau (I'm not surprised by one's choice lol).
As the season progreeses, someone will have their name in lights, and some may not be in the best of circumstances, as is MikeMaster99 this week by taking the first Spoon of the season. Don't worry, Mike, the season is young and there is plenty of time to go!
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...he went 14-2 last year. He's 0-1 to start this year.
Just a reminder: if you only pick one underdog, you are ineligible for bonus points, and I know exactly how many are picked.
Any inactive tippers who tip and are below 2nd last, their score will jump to 2nd last, however, if they are above 2nd last, they will not lose points to fall to 2nd last (or the lowest active tipper)

The Niners were that good. Their receiving corps is one of the best in the NFL, and their defence is top-three, if not the best in the league. Their special teams are top-five, with their kickers Akers and Lee, are the best punter and one of the best placekickers in the league as well. Alex Smith was having a good day, and with so many good options to throw to, Davis, Crabtree, Manningham, and Moss, it's not hard to find a good set of hands to toss the ball into. Finally, with (knock on wood) Frank Gore healthy, they have a tank at the running back position that can get consistent yardage.

I agree with all of that except for the recieving core being one of the best in the NFL. For mine it isn't, partly because of Alex Smith and Harbaugh's conservative approach, but also because I'm predicting regression from Davis, while Crabtree is overrated, Moss is 99% likely past it, and Manningham was the 3rd WR on the Giants. I'd much rather have the receiving core of Dallas, Atlanta, NYG, New England, Green Bay, Philly etc.

Still early in the season as most of us did not keep our placings from last week. Some went up, and some went down. The biggest move this week was Sypher's 15 place drop after garnering a Spoon with only five correct. He must have been listening to Tom Petty's early 90's hit, "Free Fallin'."
PaulE holds the top spot again, but had his lead cut by one.
N-Bomb and chogobad missed the Bears v Packers game, N-Bomb by a fluke error, and chogobad by tipping late. Chogobad's pick would not have mattered as the Packers won the game.
MikeMaster99 was our first default victim as he missed altogether. He scores six as it is, again, higher of wooden spoon or six, and since Sypher only scored five, six points were awarded for default.
No bonus points were scored this week, as no one scored higher than 12, and a minimum of four picked every game except one. The game that went to four was the Cowboys game...and it wasn't Romo's fault they lost! The big shocker of the week is that the Patriots lost...at home...to the Cardinals!
This was NOT a week to go with many road teams, as only two won...just enough to state that if someone had run the table, they'd still have earned a bonus.

I know. The way that play looked, I could have already had the results posted. Now I'm having to go back and redo everything because of an offensive pass interference!!

Not a good week overall, as very few players even score half this week. If it weren't for a few games, this would have been one of the worst weeks in the NFL comp.
Lots of bonus points go out this week, as six games were picked by less than three.
Ozfei's tip of the Giants/Panthers game came at 5:30pm FT time, so she did not score on that one.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...1-2 this year. He finally got one right lol.

and wondering how Seattle can win with a Green Bay interception? Plus the most blatant push in the back than you can get.
I have not seen as many bad calls as I have this season...and this is only week 3! I dread to see what happens by Week 7 or 8 at this point. Not often a team wins on an offensive pass interference, but it happened this week, plus they were given a defensive pass interference earlier in the game that should have gone the other way; it was so blatant that a non-football fan could have caught that miscall.
**Comp note: The face above on the Green Bay versus Seattle game has absolutely nothing to do with Seattle winning; it has to do with the absolutely poor officiating at the end of the game.

Another week goes by and another week with lots of movement. Illiniman14 had it going this week, as did PaulE and BxBarracuda, and all three of them jagged a bonus point; the only ones of the week, as all games were tipped by at least four. Illiniman sees the most rewards from it, as he jumps from 19th to 7th! Not a lot of major moves otherwise.
MikeMaster99 is one week away from going default, as he has not tipped the last three weeks.
A much better record this week, but as the real refs are back, at least the refs know the rules and kept games in check this week.
†Both szabs and themonarch received "gimme" points for the Ravens as no one picked the Browns to win.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...1-3 this year. Better luck next year, as he cannot catch last season's 14-2 stat.

Lots of high marks this week, and the two defaulters would have scored more had KrivoyRog not scored six. Four players did not lodge tips for Thursday's game. It will be that way with a Thursday game until near the end...just a reminder.
Chogobad jagged one of only two bonus points this week by going 12 or more of 14. The other one was doomed, who has 50 words to tell us why he went with Indy over Green Bay. Was it because of their coach? I, as well as the other 23, are curious. I'm sure szabs is wondering why her 11 didn't get the win.
A few went the way of the upset, but as four tipped one game, and another went to five, those did not get any extra.

Lots of upsets this week, and the paltry 39% shows it! The only highlight this week is paper_aero and Sypher, who somehow were able to jag eight of the 14 games this week; they were the only two to break 50%! Five players take a Spoon.
I had started out having San Diego winning the Monday game, but after giving up 35 straight...off a pick-six and a fumble lost for six, it turned very quickly into the Bronco's favor.
Several bonus points went out as some had no faith in the home teams...except for doomed's pick of the Titans. Every other bonus point was jagged for a road team, including the Niners agonizing defeat at the hands of the Giants...in SF! Only five games of the card had at least ten correct, and that is not good odds, even with the refs who know the rules! What happened to us all this week?? We had a reasonable reason in Week 3, but not this week!
Several places have bottlenecks, as there are five in 7th, and four in 18th.
The rest of us would like an explanation from paper_aero and doomed on their solo picks...in 50 words or less.

A far cry from last week's horrible tipping. We hit paydirt on ¾ of our tips this week, and the much higher scores reflect this. Seven was the Spoon score this week, as well as default, since seven is more than six.
Both chogobad and ozfei pick up a bonus point for going 12/13, however, paper_aero also went 12/13, but as he did not pick two underdogs, he does not earn a bonus point, as noted by the * next to his name in the Hall of Fame.
If KrivoyRog had picked San Francisco (I'm sure he was looking for a solo bonus from it lol), then toocool4u, szabs, and doomed would have also gained that point as a gimme.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...3-3 this year. He's pulled even with them. Will he eventually do better than they are? We shall see.
Just a reminder: if you only pick one underdog, you are ineligible for bonus points, and I know exactly how many are picked.

Welcome new tipper underscored, but please make sure to tip by bolding your selections.
Several players went 10/14, but four pipped them by tipping 11, and two of those three picked up a bonus point by going with Tampa Bay in the Minnesota dome. Our sole tipper, doomed, is again in the hot seat...how did he know that Cleveland would beat Philip Rivers and the Chargers? He has a 50 word limit.
Three people must have had faith in the Rams, but it didn't bear fruit, as they were the worst defeated team this week.
Comp note: since underscored tipped, MikeMaster99 moved up to the 2nd lowest score, which was 53. Where has he gone?
LeoDaVinci and KrivoyRog both had deductions for late tips, however, KrivoyRog didn't want that with the Spoon on top of it!
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...4-3 this year. He knew that the Giants had gone 3-0 in Jerry's shrine, and they kept that intact.

Looks like paper_aero had enough of the top, and he made way for dg_dave, who solely tipped the Steelers to win in NY, and also went 12/14, gaining two bonus points for his effort. Sypher and ozfei joined him in the weekly win column this week, by also tipping 12. All of the bonus points came to these three tippers.
As for my 50 words on why I picked Pittsburgh: Eli is too inconsistent with the team, and it showed this week.  No one else is on the spot this week lol.
A good majority of players did score ten or more this week, and less than 25% scored under ten. The ones that did worst were Dizart and doomed, hitting paydirt on only six each. Ozzz2002 is breathing a big sigh of relief scoring seven and not earning the cutlery.
Six players would not have been bonus eligible as they picked either the card of favorites, or all bar one. Two of the "onesies" scored eleven and are scratching their heads.

Neither is anyone else, to be honest. After 75 minutes of football, you'd think one of them would have wanted the win, but instead, they played to the first tie in about four years. (Hint: in week 9 of the 2016 comp, tip a tie for one game - you might just hit paydirt lol - the last one was in week 11 of the 2008 comp, one week shy of four years prior)
Two games were picked by only two tippers, and dg_dave jags his third straight weekly win, to put him seven clear of second place. He is breathing a HUGE sigh of relief after Pittsburgh won Monday night, since no one jagged the tie (see above). So many of us were not expecting the Titans to absolutely destroy Miami in Miami, but themonarch and illiniman14 both had their crystal ball going for them, same with dg_dave and wwe84 for the Bengals pick over the defending champs.
KrivoyRog was given default as he only tipped the Indianapolis/Jacksonville game, and was incorrect in it.

A very high scoring week this week, as we hit paydirt on nearly 7/9 of our tips. The only bad game we had was the Jets winning away. All other games had at least ten correct tips, and eight of the fourteen had 20+!
Lots of bonus points go out this week, all near miss points. All of the 12's are shaking their heads wondering why they didn't get a weekly win this week. Well, that can be explained by gillyharold only missing his Lions to win at home, and George95's pick of the 1-8 Chiefs to beat Cincinnati.
I'm sure LeoDaVinci (who tipped late but gained that point back by tipping 12+) is ecstatic that the Niners won at home without Alex Smith, and it wasn't close!
Default this week was a staggering nine since the Wooden Spoon score was likewise nine, jagged by five tippers, some their first, like BxBarracuda, who fell back off the pace a bit.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...7-3 this year. It took OT for them to win, and after trailing 13-0...

Not as high a week this week, but still hit paydirt on 6 of 10 (well, almost!).
The 12's (there were three of us) are all scratching our heads wondering how wwe84 took 13 (he was the only bonus point this week, on near miss picks - must hit 13 on a 16 game schedule).
This week saw quite a few upsets, as six underdogs won, including the Browns over the Steelers (doesn't help when Big Ben is out though and Batch throws 2 INTs).
Several players who missed the Thursday games scored better than BxBarracuda, who took this week's cutlery with only six. PaulE went one better missing the Monday night game as well.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...8-3 this year. Doesn't help when they are down 28-3 at halftime! Only four picked this result. The organizer's home team is 5-6, but still oddly in the playoff hunt...? Does the NFC stink that much, outside of Atlanta?

Surely the AFC is faaar worse than the NFC, I can't believe one of the Steelers/Dolphins/Bengals/Colts will make the playoffs, as well as my Ravens who are pretty bad, cruising in to the playoffs!

Maybe St. Louis and San Francisco shouldn't play one another. After Week 10's TIE, they almost played another 75:00 of football, but Greg Zuerlein stopped the clock at 0:26, and much to the dismay of LeoDaVinci, the 49ers are 0-1-1 against them. David Akers missed by less than 6". Only gillyharold had faith in the Rams. Note to self: tip a tie when these two teams play...you might just get a solo pick point!
Four weeks to the finish post sees quite a logjam for the minor placings. Paper_aero (who won this week) and George95 are even, and ozfei and illiniman14 are a point back, with PaulE a further two back.
LeoDaVinci posted all but two picks 1 hour and 45 minutes before kickoff, hence the deduction, but with his pick of Seattle, he got it back. My personal feeling, Pete Carroll did well in the collegiate level as a coach, but he is horrid as an NFL coach.

I'm not so sure about that the Niners almost gave up a 31 point lead in less than 15 minutes. I honestly don't know who was more impressive/disappointing but it was certainly the best game to watch this season.

A 28-point lead was given up in 15 minutes, sure. The moment Tom Brady started the no-huddle offence (at the end of the third quarter), he was impossible to stop. You are talking about a Hall-of-Fame quarterback here, with years and years of experience and superb accuracy and leadership skills.
You could also say that the Pats gave up 24 unanswered points in 10 minutes (and very nearly it was 35) between the end of the 2nd quarter and the beginning of the third. So, by the same logic, the Pats aren't Super Bowl-bound either?

Lots of bonus points go out this week, as LeoDaVinci and Howie72 each pick up a near miss...Howie72 is probably seething as he scores 13 and doesn't take a win? Gillyharold didn't do as well and took the cutlery.
Even with LeoDaVinci posting late, he picked up that lost point in one of two ways: picking 13+/16 or somehow thinking that a rookie could beat Brady and Co. in Foxboro. Ozzz2002 went with the latter and took that extra point.
Only 32 games separate us from now until BxBarracuda takes us through the postseason. Who will take the podium minors?
You could also say that the Pats gave up 24 unanswered points in 10 minutes (and very nearly it was 35) between the end of the 2nd quarter and the beginning of the third. So, by the same logic, the Pats aren't Super Bowl-bound either?
I say neither of them are going, but that's only one's opinion. Atlanta and Houston are strong teams; I am well aware that New England beat Houston, but as Atlanta demolished NY, who demolished SF at home...!
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his home team...10-4 this year. It took a bit of OT to decide this one though.

Atlanta and NYG have gotta be the most inconsistent good teams in the league, the Giants especially. Atlanta could be 14-0 at this point and still nobody would back them for the Superbowl.

The only thing we really need to talk about is the amazing 14/16 last week, no? Other than that, Akers may be on his way out, but the 49ers certainly don't need him if they keep scoring TDs.

Only one week left in our season and George95 moves up into 2nd place, hoping that he can at least keep silver. No one else has a chance at gold, as dg_dave takes an unprecedented 14 point lead with only 16 games left. The only two that could even remotely hit it are George95 and illiniman14, who are 14 and 15 points behind, respectively. With six points guaranteed next week, that (in essence) gives dg_dave a 20 point spread with 16 games left, barring any bonus points by either of them.
George95 takes this week's win with his stellar picks of 14/16, and leaves four others scratching their heads why their 13's didn't win. Ozzz2002 didn't do so hot, and takes this week's cutlery.
LeoDaVinci must really be taking the Niners loss hard, as now that division will be decided next week, and this tipper would tip against them making the Super Bowl. How in the world do you have a team who ties St. Louis at home, loses to the same team away in an-almost tie game again (!), then goes up 31-3 against Tom Brady, only to win by seven, then get shellacked by Seattle, and still feel they will go to their sixth Super Bowl? All those in opposition please post why you think the Niners will be watching the 2013 Super Bowl.
The playoff picture is still quite fuzzy for the lower seeds in both conferences. Most of the teams are decided, but the NFC East (which is where dg_dave's home team is) is only decided by one game, and the winner will be going on (Washington or Dallas).

The NFL season is over, and the podium and playoff picture have come into focus.
We have our first ever defense of an NFL title, as dg_dave takes it in style by winning the competition by a whopping 15 points on second and third. He came out of nowhere in Week 9, and galloped the rest of the way.
While several dropped off the radar late in the season, we saw MikeMaster99 for the first week and no other tips came from him. Underscored came in mid-season, and, again, tipped for only one week.
Chogobad catches both paper_aero and dg_dave with his fourth weekly win. He also takes the only sole bonus point by picking the Panthers to win. We would like a 50 word explanation as to why.
Ozzz2002 ties doomed with his fourth Spoon - no one else got to more than four in either column.
Bonus points were highest honored to dg_dave with eight, and ozzz2002 with seven. Honorable mentions go to wwe84 and LeoDaVinci with six each.
One final thought...gtho4 was the only season long tipper not to crack into the top 10.
We'll see how the comp organizer did against his home team...12-4 this year...not as good as last year's 14-2 though. The Cowboys went a dismal 8-8.
