The New Question game is tough, Terry! I almost never do better than 5/10 (unless I take longer, Google, and ruin my time score). Fill Me In is also a very tough game.

I like an idea Wesley suggested... allowing for 1 or 2 X's to be a little more forgiving.

That sounds good to me. 2 Xs I think is lenient enough. It is supposed to Epic after all, just not impossible.

The last link in the yellow goes to the main page, not the game.

Ummm, yes, I really scored zero. I finished, got 6 right, didn't realize I forgot to click submit, and went elsewhere for what apparently was a total of 205 seconds. So, with time penalties, zero points. wink

But that was the one I thought was a bit high; 700 was where it was at, and only 12 people have done that today.

But then I saw it has been moved down to 200. wink

Mind Melt is really a bit low with 700. This should really look for some of the player's worse scores, e.g. beat your bottom 10% in the dailies and your bottom 30% in the hourlies.

Wes, do you mean individualizing the challenge per player like the one we had two days ago I think...was it the red one? Or doing it by level like some of the regular challenges are?

By personal performance (using a low default if the player doesn't have 10 plays)

I could tailor each one... but it gets pretty gnarly having to do this for all the games, and then have exceptions for those like quiz of the hour.

It would be a whole lot easier to have a set of static scores for this one that fit "the average player", then giving 2 mulligans. It will be nowhere near perfect, and likely too easy for some expert players and a big challenge for newer players, but not a big deal for just one challenge.

If this is the approach to take (and i'm leaning to it), then the question is what are good scores for each game.

p.s. "personal performance" doesn't work for most players. Most players don't play even half the games we've got on a regular enough basis to have any sort of history in the game.

In that case...I would definitely lower the Fill Me In.

You have to both know the answers and spell them correctly. And, from playing the game myself, there are some pretty obscure questions in that game sometimes and the game leaves no room for guessing like a multiple choice game does.

Can't you just go through a few hundred (thousand) plays on, say, levels 1-40, 41-80 and 81+ and base it on percentiles of that?

I'll run the analysis if you can give those to me. Most recent 1,000 plays for each game in each of the three groups.

Just out of curiosity, Terry, what are the little numbers next to the games for, between the name and the target?

"scoring at least points in each"

Can this possibly be reworded to make more sense?

Something like "scoring at least the minimum points listed in each".

Or simply "scoring at least the listed points in each".

I don't like dealing with percentiles Wes because they're not representative. Some games are played by a lot more experts than non experts, which really messes up such stats. Most of those stats are skewed upwards significantly.

So the best bet it seems to me is just to eyeball it, take a look at mid-level people who are playing, etc.

Epic challenges are also played by experts much more than non-experts. Using a percentile from actual play is probably more accurate than an eyeball, especially since we're looking at the lowest reaches here.

If non-experts do play them, though, they should at least have a chance, even if it does require a bit of luck.

Using the data I have, here are some numbers we can probably use (they represent some of the most failed attempts by the 100+ players). First number is for level 1, second is 100+ (progression capped at 100), interpolate linearly in between:

Smartest: 376/702
Easy: 837/967
Word: 1114/1323
Oscure: 210/519
Hourly Mix: 578/772
FMI: 415/609
Who am I: 500/768
Expert: 642/1127
World: 580/740
Daily: 1114/1278
New Question: 92/188
Pot of Gold: 639/794
Mind Melt: 1836/1998
Heroes: 650/785
Mosnter: 120/150
TvT. 908/1021
Brain Twist: 5 constant
Bus Ride: 6 constant
GMM: 391/611

Being lenient on the dailies is more important than hourlies, since you get multiple chances at hourlies.

I like these scores, Wes. They seem attainable but not too easy. smile
