Good catch on the butterfly Chavs.

Yes, I have bought a wigwam, they are made to order so hasn't been delivered yet, should be next week sometime. I shall try it in various places and see where it looks best.

Beautiful, Chavs!

Ah, so that's what a Kookaburra looks like. Neat looking bird.

This fellow gave me a start a few months ago running around on the patio. I haven't seen him/her in awhile, though. The double tail slows their ability to move as swiftly as they're supposed to; I hope he didn't get captured by something.

The new camera cost about the same as the old one as the prices have come down so much, but all the others like it were double and more so did pretty well.

This tunnel was created when a new development was built above London Wall, which is where you'd expect it to be on the edge of the City

Great photos, everyone! Especially love the butterfly by Chavs and the tortoise and lizard by ClaraSue.

Accidentally forgot to post one yesterday. Anyway, back to Bali! These rice fields are world famous and incredibly beautiful. We passed them on the way back to where we were staying from the village. This was taken from a car, so it was another one that was pretty hard to take, and you do see some of the shops in the bottom, but it is still looks quite nice I think.

The pointy thing is the CN Tower in Toronto. I was only in Toronto for a couple of nights so did not go up the tower, just walked around like most other places I visited.

That is one tall tower!

The doves are such pests around here. As much as I like to hear them, they always make such a mess of my walkways. Here one has made her nest on my roof and if you look closely, you will see two babies. After the little ones left the nest, we took down the nest.

Outstanding rice fields, Daaanieeel.
Pointy thing, Howie? smile
It was nice that you let the little ones grow before removing the nest, Clara. Every year we have birds build a nest in the planter outside our front door. The strange thing is, it is not always the same species of bird.

Here is a truck working in an on-going open gold mine in the Black Hills. This pit is not nearly as big as the last one I showed but it still seems like a blot on a beautiful landscape to me.

I presume that wandering in and grabbing a couple of handfuls of gold is discouraged!

Love the dove ClaraSue. We get housemartins nesting under our eaves and they make their nests with mud, so we have to hose them off every year when the babies have gone.

depgary: too funny. Looks like a tonka toy from here : )

Christina: nice display of sedum. Wish mine had "bloomed" this year.

Howie: you really should've gone up the tower to experience the nausea of looking down at the ground through plexiglas and then going to the bar/restaurant at the top to get the touristy plastic booze souvenir. Oh wait. Never mind. Waste of money.
p.s. I feel sorry for you that you had to spend time in "Steel City" Hope the time spent with friends was worth it LOL!

Wow, what wonderful photos from everyone while I've been away. My grandson was born on Saturday (1st September) when we were down in Eastbourne which is where the photo was taken. We had to cut our visit short and travel 7 or so hours to Newcastle Upon Tyne to see him.

Congrats Dot. smile

We go back to the volcano village. These onion crops are grown on where the crater lake once reached to. We stopped here while cycling around the village (hence the bike handle in the corner of the photo). You can see the volcanoes again in the background.

While in Toronto I also had a stroll around the Music Garden down at the waterfront....who knew flowers played instruments so well....Apparently it is a "3 acre garden divided into 6 sections inspired by the movements of Bach's Suite No. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello. The sections are Prelude, Allemande, Courante, Sarabnade, Menuett, and Gigue."

That is beautiful, I see what you mean by the mines being a "blot on the landscape". It's a shame, really.

deputygary, do you know whether those 'brown' trees are deciduous or is there a disease problem? I saw lots of pest-related, tree diseases cutting a swathe through parts of Idaho and Wyoming a couple of years ago.

Congatulations, Dot!

Thanks for the photos on Bali, Daaanieeel. I almost moved there years ago and now I see what I have missed. It's a beautiful place.

We spoke about road signs the other day. Does anyone have a clue as to which way I'm supposed to turn? laugh I saw this in Portland, Oregon this past Spring.

I know I have not posted any photos for a while but that's because (a) I haven't taken any photos that were interesting enough to post, and (b) most of my photos tend to be of people which means I can't post them here.

However I did take this one tonight which I thought might be of interest. My daughter's friend is a "fire-juggler" and this is a photo I took of him practising. If you look carefully you can just make out his arm in the middle of the photo.

Wow! Fantastic picture, MG.

MikeMaster, those trees are probably diseased. The Black Hills mostly contain Ponderosa Pine and Black Hills Spruce. In fact, they are called the Black Hills because they appear black from a distance (especially at night, hee hee). There has been an infestation of pine beetles there. I don't know if that is what caused these trees to turn brown or not, but it is most likely the case.

Congratulations Dot.

Love the pictures of Bali Daniel, makes we want to go there.

Very cool photo MG, I'm jealous of that one

We have an RHS garden not far from us, Hyde Hall, and last time I went there they were dispensing free gladioli corms of a new variety - all you had to do was give feedback on how they grew, did the slugs get them, how true did the colour come to the chart you were given, that sort of thing. So, here it is, definitely a different colour fo gladioli, I've seen deep purple and white before but not this sort of pale purple/lilac

I've been off getting more photos and found my new cable hadn't stayed in my bag when I left the house so as I hadn't been home couldn't do them till I returned. I don't think many people could spot what's wrong with these road signs so will elucidate, besides the obviously vandalised numbers (like drawing on an old master in biro), but the triangle applies to the children sign, but by law speed limits needed a circle instead to make them valid. As it's on a private road they can do as they like, especially as it's actually closed to traffic in living memory.
