Thanks Ren and Christina!

For those interested in "strategies" for taking zoo pics ... here's the link to the original picture (which had cage bars in the way). There were actually two cats in their shelter (out of the sun), but I couldn't make a final photo of both because of the chain link fence.

http://i658.photobucket.com/albums/uu309/Jakeroo510/P1010028.jpg

Hints? Use your zoom if you have one, focus on the animal's eyes. The bars will then be out of focus and can be cropped out afterwards. If you have your camera set on "multi pixels" before you take the picture, you will still end up with a fairly detailed/sharp photo once cropped and resized to fit the format here. I absolutely never "mess" with contrast, brightness, hue saturation or anything else that I don't think is "fair" (unless you actually used a specific lens to get that particular effect) - just cropping. In this case, the animal was "outdoors", so an added "plus" is that I didn't have to deal with the extra dilemma of glass/plexiglas.

If you don't care about any of the above, well I'm just happy if you enjoyed the cat's smirk : )))))))))))

I'll give it a try, although I'm not very creative.

"Sweet Home Chicago" This song has been recorded by many artists, under many genres but is primarily a blues song. This photo was taken on a trip to Chicago in the summer of 2009 when we took two weeks to go round lake Michigan starting and ending in Chicago.

"Perth" by Bon Iver (great song).

Always think the city looks nice at sunset. Oh, and that isn't a camera error on the far left building- that actually happens when the sun hits it.

There's no rule against using the same song title twice, Alex, and it could be fun to compare the two Perths! (even though I already know the Perth in Scotland) grin

Dot: nice shot of Chicago. Everytime I've flown over it (please, no remarks about brooms folks lol) it's been either cloudy or dark. Am jealous!

Christina: loved both the horse and the "bookends". Can't believe those two boys managed to stand that close without fighting!

Alex: ok you. I suspect that you have lots of wonderful photographs your harddrive is just "sitting on". The Perth photo shows you already instinctively know how to frame an inordinately lovely view by including things that are closer to you. I've heard you're pretty well-travelled for someone young enough to be my grand-daughter, so I'd love to see more of your adventures. You'd better start posting more pix or we'll find out where you live by torturing your brother LOL! (oh wait, maybe that's an incentive to NOT participate further? lol!!) Seriously though - VERY nice.

Both Perths look like lovely cities. I've been to the Scottish one once when I was quite young, but I don't really remember it.

Fabulous statue Jakeroo, where is it?

Christina: the lady is part of a fountain in Cayo Coco, Cuba. There was a sign that said who the sculptor was, but I'm afraid I didn't take a shot of it.

SpanishLiz: Nice! (no, I mean Perth! lol). When you took that photo were you leaning out a window/railing, or standing on a bridge?

Now, for a full set, we just need a Perth pic from folks in N.Dakota, New York, Delaware, Indiana, New Brunswick and Tasmania : )

I suppose it was a bridge, but it was made to feel part of the main street of the town. You just happen upon the waterway as you walk along smile

Jakeroo, thank you so much for your compliment! I'm not extremely well-traveled - I've been to Greece, Italy, and Tanzania, but that's it! I'm still smiling because of what you wrote (and have saved a screenshot to put in my 'happy' folder!). I'll have to get snapping again (I have been in a bit of a funk with it recently, actually), at least so that Rich is out of danger, haha!

Alex: well, those are three places I've never been to and I suspect many others here haven't either - so post away!

Christina: cool critters!

"Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" - B.J. Thomas

Photo taken in Moron, Cuba. Please don't pronounce it the way it looks in English LOL.
In Spanish, the accent is on the second syllable and is spoken as "more-OWN", with a slight trill on the "r".
Anyhoo, when it rains that much there, EVERYthing closes down except for skeleton staff at the hospitals.
The girls in the photo are students - school "uniforms" are common there.
