No, I want some sort of restrictions. I like that much better. Otherwise, you'd see people save up a TON, and buy a hundred challenges in hopes they get the badge easily with a ton of already-completed challenges. We can't make it too easy for them to win a badge. smile

What are we testing, exactly? Just buying as many as we can? Trying to win as many as possible?

It's all working; not that I'm actually winning anything. wink

I was testing just randomly buying as many as I can, not finished yet. I don't like that ability. I like the restrictions.

It would still take a ton of time to save up enough credits to buy the challenges, and you would still have to complete them once you bought them. I don't know what the best way to restrict them would be if say someone got two challenges that required all day for final scores. They wouldn't be able to buy new challenges even if they had enough credits, if there was more than a complete-one-challenge-to-buy rule. None of the easy ones require all day, I don't think, so restricting it to complete A challenge might be fine.

I like some restrictions as well - either we're running with a limit for how many incompletes you can have (and 1 seems to be the best option here) or having incompletes severely increases the price you pay.

So in the latter case, instead of:

9 base
+6 per challenge bought today

we could go

8 base
+4 per challenge bought today
+8 per challenge not yet completed.

So you would be buying for 32 if you wanted to get one right away before doing any work smile. Could also consider 8/5/6 instead of 8/4/8.

I've clicked the buy a new challenge button several times, but it will not allow me to purchase anymore than 5 challenges. It keeps deducting the credits anyway, but without any new challenges showing up in the list.

I think I'll go with Wes original idea of maximum of 1 incomplete.

If you get unlucky and are stuck with 2 day-long ones, well... tough wink

I like that better, Terry.

And, I'll be stuck with about 10 incomplete today now. wink

It allowed me to purchase a new one. Worked fine this time.

Litmus test worked - with three incompletes, it denied me the purchase and did not take any credits off my balance.

"It takes your average and determines your target from there although I agree that it might be a bit too low. I got a target in the high 500s lately in spite of having a better than 50% record of scoring with it in Hardcore (which is 870 or better)"

I just used simple random ranges for these ones to keep it simple. I've bumped up the average score for them 100 points each though which should make them marginally tougher.

The latest addition with the Movies-based scavenger is a bit awkward to play - it inevitably ends in detail questions about a pretty substantial number of movies one has never seen and has to research. Good for categories without specialized "have or have not seen/read" content, but for Movies, TV, Music and Lit, it should probably select a larger contingent from the mixed subcategories. (Maybe 50% from mixed and 50% from individual bands/movies/shows/books)

Actually, I think I like the idea of niche knowledge for this challenge.

The difficulty is in asking players to take too many quizzes.

I think I'll put it back to how it was, but considerably lessen the # of quizzes you need out of the list.

Just as a curious thought...

When there is a list of quizzes that you have to "play x quizzes, getting x right each", I have noticed that it never has my quizzes in the list. I would assume this is because it registers that I'm salami_swami and does not give me any of my own quizzes.

However, perhaps it is just a coincidence I have yet to see any of my quizzes.

Just so I know, does it automatically know who I am and not give me any of my own quizzes to play? If this is just a coincidence, could there be a system so I never see my own quizzes on the list?

That is all. smile

Yes. The system is like Big Brother. It knows which quizzes are yours, and it's always watching you.

I think the original quiz count was pretty good for most categories - the ones that cause problems were only Movies, TV and Lit and to some extent Humanities because they are really hit or miss things once you get to specific titles - either you have seen/read something or not. They are also very difficult to research when you don't have the knowledge.

I'll still stand by my idea that the best compromise would be to use a decent smattering of mixed in those categories. If I need 18/27 and I can play 12 mixed quizzes for those and then need to have seen/read 6 of the remaining 15, most players should come close to that or exceed it since most of the entries in these categories (of which you do obviously pick highly ranked ones) are relatively popular.

So my suggestion would still be for those four categories only to take 12 from mixed subcats and 15 from the specialized ones. (6 + 8 for medium). Then, playing 8 and 18 respectively is challenging and fun while still keeping the specialized titles in rotation and it scales best in comparison to the other categories. (The current Humanities mix you sent me for example looks too generic in comparison. SOME quizzes on specialized musicals and plays would be great in there, just not all of them!)

By the way - I do like the generic and category-specific scavengers to coexist. Both are different kinds of fun and if we can one day add the player-created ones to it (Wouldn't this be another nice way to make folks spend some credits smile ), we'd have loads of variety.

Incomplete"

This one from yesterday isn't updating. I was a hero, in fact, the highest scoring one. (Good thing about being on a small team.)
