How can this possibly be a medium challenge?

It took a random score you got--I think over the last month or two. It could have been 1470 or 1300 or 640.
However, this is a different matter if you think there should be a maximum limit to the score it randomly chooses.

Something strange happened today with my hard challenge, which was to score 13844 in Global Challenge. I scored 7084 in today's first set, but when I went to check the total I needed before playing the second set, I found the challenge marked as complete:

Quote:
Dominate the global challenge! Collect at least 13844 points playing Global Challenge games today.
Complete

My best guess is that my scores from yesterday's second set have been added to today's first set, but it doesn't seem right.

Edit to add that I've had this challenge previously, probably more than once, and it's never happened before.

Todays easy challenge was

Rank in the top 50% of players in one of your Global Challenge games today. Ranks are assigned when the sets close.

I was the only one to play in one topic in my division so finished top, but challenge is marked as incomplete.

frown That was hard luck. You need 2 people playing to create the possibility of 50%. Just as you need four people playing to create the possibility of 25%.

I thought Terry said that he would change it so that you'd win the challenge if you ranked #1 regardless of number of people playing.

ASA: I only see one play for you yesterday in the GC:

Jan 19 14, 1:57 AM (3) The Bright Bulbs Golf 1 (21) 79 5 / 5

I don't see any instances of you being the only player playing???

Hi Terry

Yes I only played the one game to see what would happen, At the end of the first session my challenge report showed me as being 100%, which to me meant I was the only one to have played. I do not deserve the point, as I purely choose option A on what I regard as an obscure subject-Golf and only got one correct. But thought the idea of this forum was to indicate any problems that we find.

Hi ASA, that indeed is the point of the forum.

However, 5 people played that hour, and you came 5th.

If only 1 person had played, you would have won regardless of score.

I think what it *actually* means is this:

The lower the percentage, the better.
Finishing 1st out of 5 gives you 20%.
Finishing 2nd out of 5 gives you 40%.
etc.
Finishing 5th out of 5 gave you 100%.

I'm not completely sure, but I think that's how it works. You needed LESS than 50% to complete the challenge, so there was no bug - although the report could possibly be phrased/formatted in a slightly less confusing way.

What challenge report shows you a percentage figure? The only percentage I recall seeing in the Global Challenge is the level progress report, telling me how far through my current level I am. For actual games, I only see my score to start with; after the set ends, when I click on results I see the number correct (in how many seconds), the score I already saw, and my final rank, shown looking like a fraction (e.g., 3/43 when I came third out of 43 players). In the case of this fraction, the smaller the numerator, the better you did. To be in the top half, you have to have a fraction that is less than 1/2, for the top 25% the value needs to be under 1/4, etc.

The only one I know is this, which shows the percentile of each game, and 100% would mean you placed first.

http://www.funtrivia.com/myresults.cfm?gametype=2

However, though it shows most games, I don't see it as showing global challenge percentile.

Maybe when ASA scrolled down to see Global Challenge stats, ASA saw the final rank of 5/5 and thought that meant 100%?

I think it says 100% for GC to mean you're in the 100th percentile. As in, last.

On the Daily Challenges page, percentages are shown for certain challenges where you have to be in to so-many-percent in a game. The lower the % value shown, the better you placed. I recently had one that required I be in the top 50% in Who's the Expert, and when I finished first in my division it said something like the "highest percentage today is 5%", meaning I was in the top 5% in my division. There are several Daily Challenges that do the same thing, and they keep track of your highest (smallest %) score throughout the day.

Percentiles in the personal stats are 100 = best, just like they'd be in most statistics using percentiles. 3/42 = 93% - you have matched or beaten 93%. So I guess it really boils down to how the stats are worded. If it's a percentile, high is good. If it's "be in the x% best", low is good.

Just checked it, the challenge is accurate. Says "top X%".

Could we change things to make it all the same, then? I don't like seeing 100% means last place in Global Challenge, but on my stats page 100% means first place.

Can we switch it all to mean the same thing, either way, either percentage or percentile? Just so everything is the same, so this issue won't occur again (by misreading one as the other).

Is there any chance that the question pool challenges could at least partially dependent on how many single questions have already been accepted? It's the only challenge that I intentionally skip, because of how many questions I have sent to the pool already.

My Difficult challenge today (Wed the 22nd) was score at least 4863 FunTrivia points today.

Well, since other challenges like Twins and Nemesis stop scoring at 11:50pm, I figured this one would, too. I had over 5000pts. But when I checked on another challenge, I saw this:

So far: 255 Incomplete

It seems that if Twins and Nemesis and other like it stop counting at 11:50, then this should have, too. Seems like it could be built into the challenge, like the others.

No, it scores right after midnight.

Nemesis and Twins stop scoring before midnight... or else they wouldn't work, right? I'm pretty sure there was some discussion about that somewhere in this thread.

Anyway, it seems to me in the interest of clarity and fairness, it is a good idea to point out in the challenge instructions that you have to check your score before 11:50 for it to work in the case of having to reach a particular score for a day.

Okay, strangely enough, when I checked Yesterday's Results, it said that the challenge was complete. That was confusing because between 11:50 and midnight, the challenge was showing my Thursday's score not my Wednesday's score, but it looks like it fixed itself (or Terry fixed it? If so, thanks!)

I think your answer is that the challenge did stop scoring at 11.50. That ten minute gap allows the system to tally up scores, which is why the challenge was shown as incomplete until after 12.00. In other words, don't expect accurate figures for that short period of time.

Maybe all other times he had the challenge, he completed long before 11:50/12:00.

The twin challenge can be completed any time of day because at some point you may meet the criteria (I've done it at 10am and also at 2pm). The Nemesis challenge waits until 11:50pm regardless of score, as it is a contest to see who has the higher score.
