I know that you won't get the pts and /or credit for Hard mode if you click on Easy mode for even a second, but I have started at a crosswords and haven't been able to see my mistake. After a while when I give up to see where I went wrong.. there's always been a mistake in there somewhere. As soon as I've fixed the puzzle so it's correct, it's converted over to pts. There's been no hiccough in the system for me. It's always been an operator error, so to speak wink

Apologies if this has already been raised on this thread, but why is the badgelet for The Works epic challenge titled 'Done' rather than 'Works'?

The name given to badgelets for each of the other Epics relates directly to the name of the challenge. 'Done' sounds like it was the last badgelet designed and Terry was getting bored! wink

One of my challenges that I find very difficult is "playing a new quiz within 20 minutes of being online." Unfortunately, to keep the integrity of the quizzes, the editors must be caught in a Catch 22.
The lag time between new quizzes can be substantial. Any ideas on how to rectify this?

Are you talking about the amount of time between when one quiz is placed online and when the next quiz is placed online, or the amount of time between when a quiz is placed online and when players can see it?

Editors like me cannot tell when another editor is going to put a quiz online (and we wouildn't play one we had just edited ourselves, anyway), so we must watch The Buzz like everyone else, that being the only way to be sure you see a new quiz within 20 minutes.

Getting a steady flow of quizzes coming online is never going to happen, realistically. You just have to watch and see. What I find difficult is getting them all correct, since they are often in categories wher I have no expertise. That's life.

Honestly, I complained about this early on, but the longest lag I have seen (which happened to be the day I had the challenge) was about 16 hours, I think. So, the challenge is still possible for anyone. The Buzz has them as soon as they are available, so the key is just to watch that assiduously.

Another option to get more chances at this is to email-subscribe to quiz notifications for prolific authors and categories you do well at.

In the Daily Challenge Difficult Mode, this morning's challenge was a head to head competition in the hourly I'm the Expert game (best 4 scores each for the day). I played in the 6:45-7:45 a.m. hour, but the score was not counted as part of the Daily Challenge. Is this a glitch or bug? Has anyone else not have scores count?

If you played the expert game before being assigned the challenge, it does not count. It only counts your next four plays after clicking to receive your challenges. smile

Is the "I'm the Expert" duel the only Daily Challenge that is not retroactive for the day?

I believe so. It is designed that way to allow you to pick on choose the four you are scored for. If you play four games with 200 points each, then get the challenge, it's not really fair... So it allows you to pick which hours you play after picking up the challenge. smile

We both played in the same set, but you may be right. I may have played before it was assigned. Maybe not. Not sure what time my opponent played. However, if the score doesn't count before an oppnent is assigned, it should say that.

It actually doesn't count until YOU claim the challenge. Your opponent could, theoretically, have gained the challenge, played all four, and not get an opponent (you) until later. But any previous scores YOU make, regardless of opponent, do not count. smile So if they clicked, it would count, even if you hadn't clicked yet. It only counts your scores until after you click.

Hope that helped.... And made sense. wink

Not sure what you mean, but we both played in the same set so they both should have counted

I knew that challenge was retroactive and the reason why; I was just curious to know if there were any more like it, or if every challenge was retroactive. (Just in case, I complete a challenge without being assigned it; would it still count once I do get assigned the challenge? You said "yes", so thanks for answering!)

salami_swami is saying that even if you both played in the same hour/set, it will not count for you until you get the challenge.

Buddy is correct, that is what I am saying.

You do not have to play the same set; you could each be scored for four completely different rounds. smile

The challenge was there when I woke up. The challenge was assigned to me - just not an opponent.

Not a big deal. Just trying to understand. We played in the same set. His counted, mine didn't. Tomorrow's another day

Let me just make sure, you had not already played four expert games, right? It only counts your FIRST four, not your BEST four. I don't think this is the issue, but I thought I'd check. smile

I went to daily challenge this a.m. and saw that my difficult challenge was the head to head Who's the Expert. I played my first set at 7:13 a.m. (1970's music). At that time I am not sure that I was assigned an opponent. I scored 1452. I came back in to daily challenge and my opponent's score was posted (same set- 1970's music).

Also, I believe your daily challenges get assigned to you when you click "Your Daily Challenges" and not when you first come to the site. Perhaps you played the "Who's the Expert?" game, then clicked on the daily challenges link. Like salami_swami, I thought I'd check even though I'm probably sure this wasn't the issue.

So bottom line, do I need to wait until assigned an opponent? Problem with that is that if I wait for an opponent, I may miss my best topics. I just need to know the rules to play by.

I went to the game from the link in Daily challenges - that I remember because the expert game is not my best or favorite

Probably the reason your opponent's score counted, but yours didn't, is because they played Expert after getting the challenge.

Let me see if I understand this...you played the Expert game after getting the challenge, but it didn't count probably because you didn't have an opponent?

Obviously, just like what salami said, if you'd played before getting the challenge it wouldn't count.

If a player goes to meet the challenge through using the link posted in the challenge, shouldn't that effort be counted? In other words, maybe the fault is in having a link that works before an opponent is assigned in this challenge.

What do you mean, a link that works? Hopefully all links work, whether there is an opponent or not. I don't know if the attempt before an opponent is assigned counts or not, it was never tested. That's why I was asking.

I have had this challenge before, and I have never been able to play before getting an opponent. Perhaps that is the issue, that no one was assigned when you played. That doesn't make sense, but I guess you cannot compete if you dont have an opponent.

It would be the most logical assumption. If this is indeed the case, I would like to ask that you can have scores counted before having an opponent. smile

My sister played the other day without having received an opponent and did actually get credited for her score.

That wouldn't matter-- you're assigned the next player who gets that challenge (usually within minutes). When that player loads up doesn't affect the link and vice versa.
