Question - if the world is to end on Friday, in which time zone will it be? grin

Ought we to open our Christmas presents early do you think?

I guess if it follows the time zones for ending, us on the later zones would have at least a few hours notice. Then I could start tearing into gifts. But if I get that new car, I wouldn't have much time to drive it very far laugh

It would have to be midnight in the time zone the Mayas lived in (because that's the actual end point of the calendar), so the US would see it just after midnight and Europe a few hours before.

But then the prediction wasn't for the END of the world but for a major change, the beginning of some new era. I guess we could wake up on the 22nd enslaved by sentient Facebook profiles or something like that. (Of course you could all prevent that particular fate by deleting yours while you still have the time... smile )

If the Mayans and Dommsdayers (is that what there called?) are right about the end of the world, I will let them tell me about for the rest of my life. wink

I'd like to at least see a power outage because of all the hype. Since I have very poor luck nothing will happen.

I guess I won't even have a birthday in 2012 if that is the case. Mine is a mere nine days away too!

This all reminds me of 31st December 1999 when all the computers were going to crash at midnight affecting major installations. I was at a party on New Year's Eve at a house where you would be able to see if France exploded at the dot of midnight, they are an hour ahead of us. smile There are nuclear installations on the French coast nearby so it could have been quite a firework display if they had gone bang!

Nothing happened and I didn't hear of anyone having problems at the change of the millenium.

If anything happens, and I seriously doubt an earth-shattering event will happen, then I won't live to se 30 (a month from Saturday).

I remember a few years ago, when the world was to end. The ladies came out onto the porch at a set time, waitecd a bit, then filtered in to eat as, clearly, everyone was still here. (If I recall correctly, someone even said "we're still here" before heading inside).

Hmmm. The Mayan Calendar doesn't actually predict the "end of the world". It's simply as far as they calculated it before the Spaniards murdered most of them, so they didn't have a chance to make more. So don't open your presents early, that's bad luck (giggles).

We'll all wake up on the 22nd and find a completely changed world. The Bankers have repaid every penny, all politicians are as honest as the day is long, nuisance phone calls selling you things never ever happen, every economy in the world is in the best possible shape and there really are aliens.

I don't think the Mayan's were very good at predicting the end of civilizations. They didn't see theirs coming.

I feel sorry for people who predict the end of the world on a certain date. If it doesn't happen they are ridiculed as idiots. If it does happen they don't get to gloat.

I had gloat as a Crystal Ball word once! Have I mentioned that?

My sanitation schedule doen't address this event. Should I still put out my rubbish Friday morning?

There is still time, the world won't end time zone by time zone, you will have to be patient and wait until we are in the correct time zone for the Mayans apparently. smile

Go on you Aussies, gloat, you are getting a longer time than the rest of us.

Well it's after lunch time here in Australia and nothing horrible has happened. I'm just staying inside away from the heat in Perth. At least they have downgraded the temp on Christmas day from 41C to 38C. Still enough to warrant a slippery slide in Mum's backyard for us all (yes, yes, slippery slides are not just for kids! smile )

Lones, I think you should be on Peruvian time. smile It is supposed to happen at 11:11pm, but not sure if that takes Daylight Savings into account.

We still have a few hours to go, so if you have any unfinished quizzes in the pipeline, I suggest that you get them into the queue VERY quickly!

Guess that'll be 10:11pm tomorrow night here (just under 23 hours away), since Peru is one hour ahead of me, and if you figure DST, which Peru doesn't observe, it'd be 9:11pm Dallas time.

So...4:11am 12/22/12 London, 3:11pm 12/22/12 Sydney.
