I just played the "Quiz of the Hour" and it was quite obvious that it was rather old as it would not get past an Editor these days. I went to look and found that it was authored in 2000.

My suggestion is that a "cut-off" date is inserted to ensure that older quizzes that do not comply with current rules in authoring are not used. One reason for this is that someone may decide to write their first quiz and think the format can be used now.

I doubt that someone who wishes to make their first quiz is going to base it off a Quiz of the Hour. If so, then why not do something similar to all quizzes from 2000 that don't meet the requirements? Having someone base their first quiz off a Quiz of the Hour is just as likely as having someone base their quiz off a quiz authored in 2000.

I actually don't mind taking the older quizzes sometimes. The questions are usually shorter and even though they lack interesting information, when I'm in a hurry I don't necessarily read thru all the i.i. And they don't load up the question with clues, so you either know it or you don't, which is one way to write a quiz.

I do mean "sometimes", of course. The quality of newer quizzes is better overall, and thankfully so. I'm just saying there is still merit in the older quizzes; no need to throw them out or take them out of circulation. IMHO.

If someone bases their format on a random QOTH, then they haven't done a good job of reading the quiz writing guidelines and requirements and isn't likely to write a successful quiz anyway. I wouldn't blame the QOTH in that case, to be honest. The rules are there, and you can't miss them.

Zippo: by creating a "cut-off" (of ANY year), that would make a great many questions, which are JUST FINE, disappear/be invalid due to an arbitrary timeline. I'm sorry, but I really do NOT agree that everything prior to xxx date should be rendered useless/unacceptable. Sure, there are SOME q's (hardly the majority) that are outdated or perhaps incorrect, but that's what the correction notice vehicle is for.

To judge by what they submit, you'd think that many new authors have never played a quiz of any sort, not just an outmoded one. Certainly well under half of new quiz authors have even glanced at the guidelines.

So, don't worry about it - one quiz more or less won't make any difference.
