Indian Premier League T20 Cricket 2013The Indian Premier League T20 cricket starts from Wednesday, April 3. 9 city franchises playing one another in home and away manner for 45 days before the play-offs. Kolkata Knightriders are the defending champions, with Chennai Superkings, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils the other strong contenders for playoff spots this year. Trying to keep pace with them will be Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad (formerly Deccan Chargers). We will have a 8 round competition here involving the 72 league matches, that's all! Rules - One point for a correct pick. - Bonus point for sole picks (or 1 of 2 if more than 12 taking part). - Further bonus point for picking a perfect or near perfect round (9/9, 8/9). - Banker system is back. Bonus point for picking the right banker, minus 1 if your banker fails! - Yet another bonus for predicting match with most runs right each round (no minus for getting this wrong  ). - Default if you forget to pick, wooden spoon score. - Tiebreaker will be HoF v Spoons differential. If equal, total HoF count wins. If still equal, number of bonus points won. - Deadline will be the start of the first game each round. The dates vary for each round, so I apologize for that paper_aero is the defending champion here, ahead of Sypher and Howie72. Previous winners include: jonnowales in 2008, MrFox and srini701 joint winners in 2009 and srini701 in 2010. Sypher has been on the podium the last 2 years. Can he make it a hat-trick? Or will it be your turn this year? Any takers?

A hearty welcome to all starters on the block for the 2013 IPL tipping comp...12 of us from last year lined up and we have been joined this year by 2 newbies, paa2isback and remote9 (both presumably from the home of the Kolkata Knightriders)...hopefully they will last the entire comp
The IPL season itself got off to a steady, sedate start. Defending champions Kolkata Knightriders won at home but lost away, Delhi Daredevils lost both at home and away, RC Bangalore have been involved in two nail-biting finishes already, Pune Warriors already look strong on paper but disjointed on the field, while Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab may well be the dark horses this season.
Our 3 podium finishers from last year start from the bottom of the heap this year! An unexpected start there.  
wwe84 is the ONLY one of us here (out of 14) to get his banker match right this round...and just to rub it in, he also picked the match with the most runs and got a sole pick point and is off to a flying start, as seems to be his wont in most comps these days. 
Howie72 also managed to pick the match with the most runs, while srini701 managed to get a sole point bonus for his pick of Rajasthan winning at home against the Knightriders.
N-Bomb and George95 both did not pick any bankers (but that still leaves them with a -1.  )
"Dave's corner": The tipping comp organizer is 1-1 in his picks with his *new* home team Sunrisers Hyderabad! They are 2-0 at this stage in the competition, a pleasantly unexpected start.

We fared MUCH better as a group this round, picking over 60% of the matches...bigger surprise was that except N-Bomb and gtho4, all of us landed our bankers this round!!!
BxBarracuda picked the lot this round, except the defeat of Kolkata Knightriders against Royal Challengers Bangalore, and earns himself a bonus point for that sterling effort
Howie72 managed to pick the match with the most runs for a second consecutive round...another notable feat in this crazy comp!!! Newcomer remote9 joined him this round and gets himself a bonus point.
Defending champion paper_aero is up and running too...gtho4 is the new occupant of the cellar now...

It was a pretty strange week in the IPL...The round started fairly quietly all right, with Kolkata and Rajasthan winning at home against the Sunrisers and the Kings XI respectively. Then the madness started. 
Chennai Super Kings lost rather tamely to Pune Warriors...at home too ...then Kolkata went and lost a match they should have won comfortably, against Kings XI  ! RCB then almost made a huge mess of their match with Delhi. Winning comfortably, they almost lost the whole plot before tying it in the end and winning the super-over eliminator  . Pune Warriors should have won against the Sunrisers, but managed to lose 6 wickets for 7 runs in the end and lost yet again , before Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils got literally pummelled at the hands of Rajasthan and Chennai to close the round 
4 of us managed to get the match with the most runs this round (Howie didn't )...remote9 also picked 2 bonus points for sole picks, while wwe84 also managed one sole pick bonus point. Half of us got our bankers right this round (Chennai losing to Pune didn't help at least 4 of us here  )
All this turbulence and addition and subtraction of banker points mean plenty of movement and shuffling of the table...Pretty open comp at this point, I would say

Home teams continue to win a majority of the matches in this year's IPL. Delhi Daredevils stunned Mumbai Indians, but were back to their losing ways the next match and their season is all but done already...they look set to play spoilsports for some teams in the second half of the season!
There were 2 matches with over 370 runs scored this round. None of us picked one of the match, but at least 4 of us here (srini, Howie, BxB and N-Bomb) had reason to smile at the other match....we were all getting one bonus point for the match with most runs....till a certain Chris Gayle went mad yesterday at Bangalore ...he scored a century in 30 balls, scored a 150 in 57 balls and finally finished 175 not out, the highest score in any T20 match. The knock included 17 sixes and they had to replace the ball at least 5 times in the innings !
The mayhem meant that George95 and remote9 picked up the bonus points this round. Sypher and paper_aero continue to rise steadily and pick the round's HoF, while wwe84 picked up his first spoon for the season and slipped back a little.

As the IPL enters the mid-way stage, it is becoming clear most teams are surprisingly resilient and strong at home, but poor on the road...Bangalore is yet to win a match away this year, while Hyderabad and Rajasthan are yet to lose a match at home this year....things will definitely change for sure in the next few matches
We had a much better round there, and most of us managed to get our bankers right too. George95 however went for a few daring upsets that didn't come off, lands his first spoon, and slips down a few positions.
Sypher continues his steady climb up the ladder while wwe84 put the disappointment of spoon from the last round behind him.
srini701 and gtho4 picked the match with the most runs this round (incredibly, we managed to get this one right every round so far this year...last year it took us 4 rounds to land one right!)....srini701 and LeoDaVinci also had near perfect rounds and picked up the round's awards.

A surprising number of matches are still going the home teams' way in this year's IPL, an all-time record...Chennai Super Kings though are not bothered about such trivial statistics and they are notching wins with a monotonous regularity now...7 on the trot so far....
Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to win at home and are still unbeaten at home after 5 matches (they had won a total of 3 matches in 5 full seasons before this!!!!)...Defending champions Kolkata might well kiss their title hopes goodbye after losing (of all teams) to Delhi...they are still alive though, after beating Rajasthan, and need to win ALL their remaining matches to have any chance of making it to the top 4...
There were bonus points galore here in our comp this round. There were 2 matches with 357 runs (the most this round)...3 of us picked one match while 4 picked the other, meaning half the field got that bonus point this round
Other than wwe84 and ozzz2002, the rest of us landed our banker matches this round...
srini701, paa2isback and gtho4 had near perfect rounds and score bonus points for that...
BxBarracuda picks the round's spoon, Leo defaulted again (and didn't send me a PM either for me to score for him ) while Sypher is back in his now familiar podium position...

The playoff picture for this season's IPL is still unclear. Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are sure of making it to the top 4 but after that Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are all jostling for the 2 remaining spots. With a little bit of luck even Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knightriders might be in the playoff mix. Only Delhi Daredivils and Pune Warriors are definitely out at this stage.
gtho4 made it back to back rounds of near perfect scores in our comp here and zooms up the ladder....he was in the basement after 3 rounds and is now knocking on the podium doors. He has picked 13 of the last 15 matches in the comp, and might have made a killing had he put some money with the bookies on the same results!
wwe84 managed to keep our record clean this year as far as picking the match with the most runs goes...
remote9 picked his first spoon for the season and tumbled more than a few places down the ladder.

Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are guaranteed to finish in the top 4 and enter the play-offs in IPL 6, but there is a scramble between at least 4 teams (RC Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knightriders) for the final playoff spot. Realistically, it is between the Sunrisers and RC Bangalore, but with some luck and mathematics, either of the other two can also still make it!
srini701 is guaranteed a podium place here, but after that there is a mad scramble between the next 5 to make it to the top 3 George95 did himself a HUGE favour by almost picking the round, and earned a sole pick bonus point as well, to join gtho4 in joint 3rd place, just 1 point behind Sypher.
wwe84 picked up a spoon and slipped a little further, but is still in with a shot...
"Dave's corner": The tipping comp organizer is 12-2 in his picks with his home team Sunrisers Hyderabad but would gladly have taken a 11-3 instead, after their last match against Mumbai Indians . The Sunrisers are 8-6 at this stage in the competition, but could so easily have been 9-5 and a little more comfortable about their play-off chances

I'm going for the rare double - last place without getting a spoon. It has been a pretty democratic comp this season with so many people sharing the spoons, but come to think of it, if you do finish last without a spoon, it might well be a new kind of record here
