This year's Madness comp will be at the same site as last year. A bracket for 2013 has been setup once again at cbssports.com .. for those of us who played last year, you're half-way there, as invite emails have been sent by csbssports.com to all of last year's participants (using last year's email addresses); the email shows your reg'd ID. The scoring system remains unchanged. There are 63 games in
this comp; we pick all of them in one go on the cbssports.com website:
1st Round (32 games) : 1 pt
2nd Round (16 games) : 2 pts
3rd Round ( 8 games) : 3 pts (regional semis ) Sweet Sixteen
4th Round ( 4 games) : 4 pts (regional finals) Elite Eight
5th Round ( 2 games) : 6 pts (national semis ) Final Four
6th Round ( 1 game ) : 9 pts (national final)
Seedings: additional pts added for each correct pick, being the team's seed. |

March Madness at FT
2013 Tipping Comp- if you'd like to join the Madness tipping comp but do not have a cbssports ID, there's a link on that page to register. You must have a cbs ID to play in this comp! Please note - you may, but don't have to, use your real name to register (surname, first name); but pick something for those two fields that looks like your FT username (so that we know who you are).
- this also applies to those who played last year, but can't remember their ID and/or have changed their email address and thus can't retrieve their password (which they've forgotten) .. you will need to re-register.
- please check your reg'd email address in your account settings/profile after you login.
This year's tipping comp is the 12th edition of March Madness (strewth, where have those 12 years gone). No one has retained their title in this comp, and no one has won it twice (but some have been on the podium twice). The defending title-holder is George95 (silver and bronze went to BxBarracuda and Howie72 .. the winner of the 2008 comp, ralzzz, holds the record for the biggest winning margin (see summary tables of last 11 comps at end of this post) .. and doomed won bronze that year the hard way; he failed to pick any of the Final Four! Howie72 holds the record for the most correct picks with 51/63, achieved in the 2007 comp.

This year's Madness starts on Thu 21-Mar-2013 and the final is on Mon 8-Apr-2013. The bracket will open for tipping when the field is inserted by cbssports.com, which should happen on Sun 17-Mar-2013. However, the last four teams to qualify will not be known until Monday and Tuesday (they will enter the comp as the four #16 seeds). btw a #16 seed has never won a game against their #1 seed opponents since the NCAA started the current Madness format in 1985. Last Four play-in: Tue/Wed 19/20 March now aka First Four
First Round: Thu-Fri March 21-22
Second Round: Sat-Sun March 23-24
Third Round: Thu-Fri March 28-29
Fourth Round: Sat-Sun March 30-31
Final Four: Saturday 6th April
Championship: Monday 8th April
Final Four play-offs at Georgia Dome, Atlanta GA
Deadline: cbssports/com will close the bracket of 63 picks at noon EDT on Thursday 21 March. Last year we had 15 runners .. and this year 13 of us are back for another dose. No shows are jonnowales and Sypher, two blokes, who were replaced by two ladies, Sarah606 and szabs. Sypher and linkan subscribed for this year's comp but missed the deadline.
This is the 12th edition of the Madness bracket comp. The first 11 were run from 2002 to 2012 and produced 12 different winners. At the end of Day One in this year's comp we have the defending titleholder, George95, bringing up the rear.
Howie72, who won this back in 2007, is our leader after Day One. The next seven spots from position #2 through to #8 are occupied by players who have never won this.
There were three upsets on Day One .. the win by Harvard (14) over New Mexico (3) was picked by no-one, which knocked the stuffing out of three of us .. the three of us lost a Final Four pick, one of us lost a finalist, and one of us lost his winner!
Howie72 picked 13/16 .. he missed the wins by Harvard, Wichita State (9) and Arizona (6) .. the win by Wichita St was picked by just one player, themonarch.
That's 16 games out of the way .. there are 63 games in this Madness. There are 47 games left and ozzz2002 is the only player with 47 live picks! |

Before this year's comp just six #15 seeds had won a Madness game. Florida Gulf Coast became number seven when they beat Georgetown. No one was brave enough to pick the win .. ditto the upset win by #14 La Salle over #4 Kansas State.
BxBarracuda is our new leader .. he has not won this comp before. N-Bomb in second place and Howie72 in third are prior winners.
Six games were picked by everyone .. which means we all had identical picks for 8 of the 16 games. Just three of us kept their position from Day 1 .. two of the three tail enders plus szabs in 7th. The loss by Georgetown knocked the stuffing out of a few of us.- 5 of 15 players have now lost a Final Four pick.

All these big seeds are going out, in some ways it's good becuase I have teams like Gonzaga and Georgetown going out in the elite eight, while some have them making the final, but even still, going out in the 32 is a bit too early for my liking!
I'm gonna need a good (but not too good...) run from Miami and Michigan too get close to the leaderboard, it's feeling a lot like 2011 when I jumped out to an early lead and then watched as everyone's brackets (including mine) fell apart! Bx might be hard to beat.
